@@maapi From memory, remove power from the pedal (remove the output cable or remove the 9V PSU cable or switch PSU off), hold the pedal down, re-apply power; an upper semi-circle of RED LEDs come on in Mode 1, cycle the pedal twice within 1 second, the display should change to a lower semi-circle of RED LEDs. Remove the power again. On next power up it should be in Mode 2 (Record/Playback/Overdub). This is RECORD Mode 1 & 2. Be careful not alter the STOP Mode, the default STOP Mode 1 is an upper semi-circle of GREEN LEDs (double tap stops the loop immediately). Mode 2 is a lower semi-circle of GREEN LEDs (double tap stops at the end of the loop and DELETES the loop!). Accidentally getting into STOP mode (GREEN LEDs) probably occurs by only cycling the pedal once. It will probably cycle back to RECORD Mode by cycling the pedal once at a time.
@Stan Williams Not surprised, the procedure for changing the mode can be confusing (I did it by accident....then I read the manual 😁). I do not use the pedal that much at the moment. I find playing through a Boss DD-3 delay set to longest delay (800mS) is fun; play a chord then pick notes to accompany the repeated chord.
@Stan Williams The RC1 is good and basic, the rotating display makes you aware of how long the loop is, you can quickly lay down multiple layers and get amazing sounds, BUT it only saves one loop/track/song. The RC3 can save up to 99, BUT remembering what is in each location may be a challenge! The RC3 has a lot more functionality (rythm tracks, USB import/export), BUT also means bending down to fiddle with the controls (store track, change track, change rythm track), an optional stop/start/change track footswitch can be plugged in to help. The video by Dawson's Music illustrates it quite well. I guess the RC20 is even more capable. Either one will provide many hours of fun! A Boss DD-3 delay (or BF-3 Flanger) in front can provide two inputs to the looper which can go out to two amps for maximum stereo/spacial effect. I use that set up occasionally, but in the main just one amp for a more focused (and less low end) sound.
This is the best tutorial I've seen for learning how to use the Boss RC-1. Yeah, I know, the Boss RC-1 is simple compared to other effect pedals and for most players familiar with effect pedals, no instruction is necessary; but, watching this video helped me (a complete beginner) tremendously. Now that I know how to operate the Boss RC-1, my electric-fiddle practice sessions are fun! Thank you!

Good video, good looper pedal, I changed it to operate in Mode 2 as in this video (Record/Playback/Overdub). Loopers are very useful for practice and have additional uses. Playing a loop through an amp/pedals frees up your hands to adjust the settings on the amp/pedals to find the sweet spot.
This looks like *exactly* what I need to start learning some basic lead guitar! being able to "play over myself" will be wonderful! What a time to be alive!

You may wish to read the instructions to find out how to change from Mode 1 to Mode 2. Mode 1 (Record/Overdub/Playback) is the default, the video presenter here has the pedal set to Mode 2 (Record/Playback/Overdub). There are some comments below that mention how to change the Mode.
I must be doingsomething wrong. I record a clean loop, then I go to play it back and play with overdrive, but now my rhythm track is playing with overdrive why?????
Unmentioned in this demo, something I discovered on my own: If you suck at guitar , this will not help you sound better. Does anyone know of a pedal that will disguise my bad playing and make it appear to suck less? Yeah, I didn't think so.
This will help you sound better, by forcing you to improve. Once you make a mistake 5 times you won't make it again and this teaches you timing and playing clean.
God knows why you thought a loop pedal would make you sound better at guitar? you want to hear your mistakes and messy playing on a loop lmao? Anyway, good luck. When i started playing guitar I would get home from school at 15:30pm and play guitar in my bedroom until 11pm sometimes. It really is just a case of not giving up, learning different styles, and playing along to songs.
What if I want to pause playback and then resume it from that point? Surely I don't have to restart it from the beginning if I'm 4 minutes through a 5 minute recording?
That would be cool if it had the ability to start recording as soon as you start playing. Is there a pedal like this that has that function? So that way you don't have to start playing at the exact instant you hit the pedal?
The RC-1 doesn't have auto record as its Boss' most basic model loop pedal, but the most models from the RC-3 upwards do! That includes the RC-3, RC-30, RC-300, RC-5, RC-50, RC-500, etc.
See our pinned comment: "he was using the pedal in "mode 2" where the order is: "record, PLAYBACK, layer" vs the out of the box mode 1 where it is " record, layer, PLAYBACK."
There shouldn't be a pause in betwen your loops if you sync up when you start/stop playing with when you stomp on the pedal. Sometimes it's helpful to even play beyond the downbeat, but stomp the pedal to stop recording right on the downbeat, as to ensure there's no pause or blip between the loop.
Mine isn3 working like that. When I try to go I to playback mode it goes right into recording a second loop. I have to tap it twice to GWT it to go into playback mode.
it's the best loop station demo video I've found on youtube, thank you for that! and I wonder please how many layers one can stamp on one another? here you made loops twice and were playing on over, so we got three layers - is that its maximum capacity?
Thanks! An no, 3 layers is not the maximum. It's unlimited! You can have as many overdubs as you wish. But there is a maximum recording time of 12 minutes. However, the more layers you record, the more the audio quality will degrade. It's not noticeable for your first few layers, but if you're overdubbing 20, 30 or 40 layers, the sonic quality will suffer.
I have a problem/question; so when I´m doing a layer it starts playing when the original recording finishes. what if I want to layer something that is longer than the first recording? when I just speak and speak (using it with a mic but it really doesn't matter) it all gets doubled and doubled ... help!
Yes, add this pedal to the main outs (or record outs, or tape outs, or whatever outputs your mixer has), and then any instruments plugged into the mixer will be recorded and looped.
I've been using the old (discontinued) RC-20xl loop pedal for years. My first one wore out. My wife bought me a used one in great condition but it just crapped the bed last weekend. I am having a hard time finding another replacement. I borrowed an RC-30xl and within half an hour realized that it's a piece of shite. I wouldn't use it to prop the kitchen door open during load-in. I'm frustrated, because the 20xl was so intuitive as opposed to this double-clutch pedal business. I do need a looper, and I may have to reluctantly get one of these, but I am NOT happy about the 20-xl being discontinued.
I have 1 of these and yes it's Boss great. But I just got a Donner Circle looper and within moments of use, have 2 loops saved with drum tracks. So much easier and as cheap as buying this Boss used.
You have to change the settings from overdub to playback. You have to unplug your pedal, press a button (see manual for what button) while off, then turn on your pedal while pressing that button, and you'll go to the menu, and from there you can change the setting. That shouldn't happen, but the first thing that comes to mind is your power supply. Are you using a BOSS PSA adapter? An isolated power supply like a Pedal Power or TrueTone CS7? Or battery?
You probably are leaving the foot on the pedal for too much time. The pedal deletes the recording when you leave the foot on it for more than 2 seconds
I noticed that the second time you pressed it it was green (only play back) and not red and green (overdubbing). How do you do this?? When I press it the second time it is red and green. Also other demonstrations of the pedal show that its red and green
Does any1 know if u can record first loop with clean channel and then change to distortion on your amp and jam to the first track? Will the first track also change to distortion?

How do you get it into mode 2?
