Always remember this song. I said goodbye to my girlfriend in September and headed off to Viet Nam. I forgot Marine Corps tours were 13 months not 12. I survived, barely, but did see her the next October. And married her a year later.
+BC Fellow one of my favorite songs Nam was over before I was born. I wasn't born until 79' but after reading your post I had to sign in to give you a belated congratulations.
I was 3 years old when this song came out. Born in September. Loved this song! You cannot beat those beautiful, magical songs of the 60's. Still listening in 2022. ❤️
WOWOWOW! What a great voice and sound still after all these years! His falsetto is still holding up, though I imagine not as easy as it once was. Nothing is as easy as it once was! Thanks for the memories.
I was 8 years old in 1966 I still remember singing along to it. One of the 1st songs that made me stop and listen to the words. You still sound great guys.
One of my many favorites of all time. OMG so many favorites. I think it is time to go back to that era and live it over with a few changes but not changes to the music. So many awesome tunes back then a couple weeks ago haha
They still good, albeit the grey hair and weight, I still dig this tune, and thanks for posting for me, I remember it well, 1966! What great memories!! Thank you so much!!
i was like 4 years old the 1st time i heard this song. Although im a heavy metal/hard rock guy, this song gives me goosebumps because they still sound good and i always love this song. My childhood memory :-)...and yes i bought it in itunes store just now :-)
Jukebox at Tim's Pizza, Springfield Missouri, dancing around with the broom. What a perfect song, the bridge from the do-wop style into 60's music about to explode.
I was 16 and lived in San Diego. Had a huge crush on Dee Dee Warner who lived across the street, unfortunately she had an older boyfriend, he was 19. But we still hung out because she had a car. True love. I've never forgotten her and this song was ours. Good times.
I checked and can't find that The Four Seasons sang it. Another group that had sung it was Gerry and the Pacemakers. There is a site (Grooveshark) who lists The Four Seasons as singing it on their site but they are in err. It is The Happenings singing. I have contacted them about it.
To the fool who said below they sound good for old people, what the hell does age have to do with anything???? There always has to be someone ignorant online that has to make idiotic comments!
@JrzFirefly This is correct, Bob is the only remaining original member. Just saw them on a cruise a few nights ago. Amazing show...looks like the same ship, too :-)
I agree that this would have been a great song for the Four Seasons to record. I have their "Looking Back" album (bought it new i 1967) and, sadly, it is not on it. Other great '50's songs are, however. Thanks for this post. I remember fondly the hits of the Happenings and am glad other generations are now being exposed to them.
Pretty darn good sound for their ages. Nice harmony. Especially at an age where most singers lose their pitch and the vibrato gets really shaky. The brass was a great added touch.
Hey PUCK we know what you said. Thank you for your input. ThurstonGHowell3rd thought The Four Seasons w/Franki Valli sang it and Inuyasha said if we check, you'll find they did cover it.
pretty neat they can still knock out the harmonies and vocals. Saw them at the Chatterbox in Seaside Heights way back and they were great. Remember one of the guys singing wore an arm cast.
I asked an experienced choir member about the voice and aging. He said age has nothing to do with it. There should not be a change. That being said, my own observations. Like Maureen Muldaur says, you must take care of your throat. You must warm up and practice. There are foods to eat and drink before a performance, and things to stay away from, plus how many hours to abstain from food before performing. Her video has many good tips (She's the "Midnight At the Oasis" lady). Also, I use a soft voice. I am not a "belter" like: Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, or that Aerosmith guy. Granted, they have great voices , power, and range, but how long can that last before burn out? No, I prefer using a soft voice, think Karen Carpenter. Use good quality microphone, such as an Electrovoice N967?, much better than a Shure SM58. Use very high volume on the microphone and sing gently and expressively into it. I am trying out newer wireless headset microphones. If you play an instrument, such as piano, having a microphone with a cord on a boom blocks your view of sheet music. Lapel microphones are good for one position. You turn your head and the direction makes the volume go away. So, a headset microphone, preferably wireless, keeps the mic piece against your lips for constant volume. I have to experiment with: VHF, UHF, digital, USB, bluetooth, and so forth. So, your voice is a delicate instrument one must care for. Eat, sleep, exercise, reduce stress in you life. Warm up, soft, expressive volume, good miking. Take care of your voice, it should last a long time.
What cruise was this? I wish I was on it...I saw your group several times in Bayonne NJ and remember you back in 66...You are a great band! Love your music!
Yeah, The Tempos and The Happenings recorded it, but The Association NEVER. By the way, the word NEVER is associated to them because of their hit "NEVER, MY LOVE" ( the comma here is very meaningful, otherwise it would change the meaning of the song completely). I like also Julie Budd's version. :)

I enjoy these guy's performance much better than the house band over at the Chuck E Cheeze's
A group called the Tempos had the original of this song. Kind of a Four Freshman/The Letterman type of group. Later 50's I think
@bluesfiddle I did a search but I couldn't find them singing it.
