Johnny Depp trial - live: Amber Heard op-ed was ‘catastrophic’ for Pirates actor’s career, agent says
he trial of Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard has entered its fourth week in Fairfax, Virginia.
Heard is being sued by Depp for $50m (£38.2m) for implying he ab*sed her in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. Although she did not name him, he claims her allegations made it difficult for him to land movie roles.
In testimony on Monday, the jury heard from Depp’s security guard Travis McGivern who was present for two f*ghts between the couple at their Los Angeles penthouse, including one in which he claims Heard p*nched Depp.
The actor’s agent, Jack Whigham, told the court about Depp’s career leading up to and following the publication of the op-ed, describing it as “catastrophic”. He said Depp had lost his role in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and he was unable to sign any studio productions in the years that followed.

Something that came to mind during this trial is that Johnny allowed her friends to stay at his apartments, but abusers would usually try to isolate victims from friends and social support.
Absolutely agree from personal experience. They act like they don’t try to isolate in front of others but then behind the scenes the victim gets abused even worse for being around others
Agree as well! He wouldn’t want there to be witnesses or interference! I wasn’t even allowed to have friends 😅 or family for that matter…
And Gina Deuters in an interview said: "It was quite shocking how she eventually isolated him from his family and friends.... It definitely felt like we kind of lost him."
It's so obvious who was the abuser in that relationship.

True, and she did accuse him of that at points in her testimony! Their apartment had a connecting door with her sister! Her bestie was in another one with her fiancé and Isaac was in yet another. I know Isaac was initially Johnny’s friend from back when he lived in Florida in the early 80’s as teens but Amber became very close with him too. His testimony is the only time I felt like she showed any remorse for the people she’s hurt. She couldn’t even look at him and the one time she did look up to smile at his joke about her accidental joke she actually looked really sad. I think he is one of the very few people besides herself that she actually cared about and formed an actual real bond with but she managed to burn that to the ground along with everything else she touched. If he was really trying to isolate her and control her none of those people would have been allowed to live there. He would have kept the whole floor empty! She also wouldn’t have been allowed to travel all over for filming, promotions, etc without him or at least a babysitter/security guard of his choosing to report her every move back to him. When he traveled he would have made her go with him always and not have allowed her to meet him places when she wanted and then leave him there and go on with her own plans when she wanted. Plans like taking drug & alcohol fueled girls trips with her friends to Coachella or even just to a nice hotel to party with her friends. None of her talk of him cutting her off from friends and family and even from acting makes zero sense! If she was struggling to get roles it certainly wasn’t because he wouldn’t allow it but was likely because she is a horrrrrrrrrrrrrible actress! I had too look up what she’s even been in and even though I’ve seen some of them and even own a couple I can’t even remember her in them. Her act on the stand is pretty on par with how talented she is and even Johnny’s fame can only do so much for her.
Like AH tried to do with JD… especially with his friends that she didn’t like… SMH she’s crazy!
RN here, 20 years experience. Props to this nurse's notes! She did a good job documenting objectively. We never ever think our notes will be brought up in court. Thank God, for the sake of Johnny, she did good notes that day.

Any medical record can be admitted into court because it is a medicolegal document. I know you know that but other people might not be aware. I knew a woman who was murdered and burned. She was only able to be identified by the serial number on her hip replacement, which was transcribed into her chart.
If I was on the jury that woman jumping up to object to EVERY question Johnny's lawyer asked would really annoy me. I would want to hear what the witness says. Elaine was just trying to stop the guy from giving his evidence.

The difference between the attorneys on A.H's team and Mr. Depp's and their responses to the judge's rulings on objections is something I'd take into consideration as a juror. Her attorney is disrespectful and argumentative. He consistently says thank you your honor. Using crap rag publications to bolster their case is atrocious.

I agree. I think he has already brought to light who she is. Though they both could be acting, she comes across cringy and he comes across as relatable. Her career is ruined, no one will want to see her in anything - the tape of her mocking JD was enough for that. Hopefully his career will be reignited and she will be a footnote on his imdb page.
I dont hope the case will be dismissed, I want to see what she says, and I mostly want to to see Johnnys face when she does. It has to be taped and remembered forever. She deserves that. And Johnny deserves peace.

You're 100% right! All of this is hearsay and objectionable....
They are trying to show he already had tabloid nonsense happening. So Ambers story isn't the only reason for him not getting work.
It's not getting across that way because they are complete morons.
Because they werent using the articles as proof or asking the witness to testify what they said and the articles are public information not a communication with the whitness. They were "confirming" the witness has seen those articles and that other negative articles exist. If it was a private email or conversation he couldnt relay "what he heard", but hes not testifying what he heard, the articles are public, hes just testifying he knew they existed or didnt.
To be clear, it's all bullshit and they only did it to testify via questioning to bias the jury with negative headlines. It was grimy and transparent, but it's not hearsay. The reason it feels off to you is because it's so obvious they were only mentioning the articles so the jury would hear them and not because it had ANYTHING to do with the witness.

Not only am I glad this case is being heard but elated it is publicized. While sad to have to hear all their personal stuff aired i almost feel like making it public was needed so THE PUBLIC and “Hollywood” gets to see Johnny redeemed and Amber for the narcissistic vile human (or sociopath really) she is who tried to destroy his life and career while hijacking the MeToo movement, disgracefully!

Johnny was smart. Howard Stern called him a narcissist for making it public. The world is seeing the truth and he is clearing his name.
The talent agent is totally honest with every thing his says. He has no reason to twist the truth because the truth is bad enough for Amber team. Ambers representative is just causing trouble for no reason because it’s and it’s getting no where. The agent is calm and collected and he won’t let her get under his skin by harass him. He did a great job.

The guy stayed calm, cool and collected during her distracting, disruptive and I believe was meant to confuse and/or distract the witness interruptions, into him losing his train of thought, hopefully into misspeaking and/or being unable to answer some of those questions, or that's what it looks like anyways!!!! These actions and behaviors are Disgusting and Despicable... Of Amber and of that whole legal team!!!!

The nurse's note is dated May 11, 2016 prior to the kitchen argument and filing for divorce. AH's lawyers tried to point out that your spouse accusing you of being unfaithful is abuse but HELLO! she was secretly having drugs with men while her husband's mother was in the hospital dying. Faithful respectful women don't behave this way. Did she not think his security would notice her visitors? She is definitely living in some weird realm in this universe where people don't notice her BS and have a memory.

That lawyer was driving me up a wall with every sentence starting with “You would agree…”, then doesn’t let anyone finish their sentences.
They shouldn’t be allowed to keep saying “and you would agree ……” when they have made no prior statement in deposition or in evidence that they do actually agree with the statement being posed. They should say “Would you agree “ not “You would agree … ” - Otherwise it’s a misleading statement and not a direct transparent question.
I would agree that I’d not want to star a liar like Amber in a movie I might make! (She should be glad I can’t and most of us aren’t able to be on the stand).

Yes! The body guard was completely trustworthy. I believe every thing he told us. He was even saying what he felt Johnny Depp could do to better himself. He told us that JD told him that black eye he got from Amber is his fault. And Johnny Depp is correct in saying that because he is there to protect Johnny and Amber had snuck that one past him. Guaranteed the guard learned something that day about marital problems and how to keep an eye out for anything possible. He could of skipped that but no he let us know every last detail of what really happened that day. His honesty is why he has that type of job where he is guarding someone as important as JD. The guards is still working for Johnny Depp because of his trustworthiness and his honesty.
It was quite telling that even though Johnny blamed the bodyguard for getting hit, he still has a job. Johnny obviously realised that he's put his own staff in a terrible position, where they can't do their job effectively because they're not trained to deal with a deranged spouse. If this was a fan throwing cans and punches, they would know exactly how to deal with it, but intervening between a man and his wife is not something these guys should be doing and it puts them in a very awkward pickle.
Yeah no one would want to have a black mark on their rep as a security agent by saying that their own employer told them about how they messed up. It also makes sense that what he told was legit and he would remember the incident correctly because Johnny criticised him for his mistake. Anyone would remember the time their mistakes were pointed out especially by their employer or boss.
Since the jurors aren't seeing what we are, I hope the plaintiffs squeeze in that Elaine's claims about Amber's specific makeup product "color pallet" was disputed by its manufacturer.

I really liked Christopher's summary of the trial and how the different witness showed the defamation of JD and AH's real motive to be in the spot light. This again is what the clinical psychologist confirmed that AH has to be the center of attention. Thank you Christopher, you made the whole complex really clear to me! You are really so perfect and professional!

We have to remember that this trial is whether Johnnie can prove defamation and loss of income. It in the end isn't about who abused who. Sadley the jury will only be able to come to a verdict on defamation.
Thank goodness there is a jury. I believe it's "common knowledge" that having a reputation for being a "wife beater" causes all sorts of damage! If it's true, then the perp reaps what they sow, but ... if falsely accused, then intentional lies that a reasonable person would know will defame the victim are heinous acts!

Instead of proving her case, her team is using all ressources on discrediting Johnny’s case and his witnesses, by going after rumours and non-related character to silence them. Which is indicating they have no case of DV and they are actively participating in denying Johnny’s right and obscuring the facts.

The reason the nurses made note of that is because they cannot discuss that in front of JD because it would be a HIPPA violation. They are still nurses who have a license for medical. Just like in a hospital we cannot announce that the patient is pregnant with others around without their permission. I work in a well known hospital in northern California. We have an entire training for HIPPA violations.

It’s getting really uncomfortable to watch. In fact, I never fully understood the term “second hand embarrassment”, until watching these suuuper arrogant, incompetent attorneys. But yeah the judge doesn’t seem very assertive to me. Idk. I’m not sure how I feel about her.
They are being introduced “not for the truth of the matter” which is an exception from hearsay. They are offered only to suggest that their existence would affect Johnny’s reputation and thus the willingness studios to hire him, regardless of their accuracy.
The approach of Amber’s lawyers is quite acceptable in court. It does risk alienating the jury or leaving them wondering what you’re trying to hide.

There's this really one thing that makes me cringe about Rottenborn. What is it with him with this "...did I read that right?" on these witnesses. There was some part (sorry can't be more specific) where the lawyer is reading a text message that has a grammatical/spelling error. The lawyer reads it without the error, and Johnny gently corrects him and makes the lawyer have to read it with the error. 🤣🤣🤣

I was abused by a family member for 35 years. It began with physical abuse, then emotional and mental and then when I got to old the physical went away and the emotional and mental abuse continued. I ended up sticking up to them for another family member and that to them was a battle cry I guess because the traps and campaigning she had been doing behind my back for 20 years became useful to her when I tried exposing her. She almost ruined my life, she did succeed mostly but I was able to escape and move away leaving her and all her lies and abuse behind me. I had to get therapy immediately and was able to organize everything that had happen to me and was able to start over with a life that wasn't always being controlled by her. These women exist, they are insidious and willing to sacrifice human beings to feed themselves for whatever they need. Humans are SUPPLY and don't mean anything to them once they aren't feeding their bottomless pit of NEEDS and so they will hastily discard them while slandering them so when you try and expose them they aren't believed. They are very careful with whom they allow to see who they really are and work very hard to impress the majority of people they interact with who cannot BELIEVE they could be such horrid people. These Cluster B personalities are capable of literally ANYTHING to protect themselves and their image. I suppose if I was an outsider looking in I may have a hard time believing that a Nurse with a nice house and nice car was a Monster. Bit she is. I can attest to it, I lived it and I'm still suffering the effects of prolonged abuse over a 35 years span. I believe Johnny. When I heard those tapes I recognized what Amber Heard was IMMEDIATELY and I knew Johnny Depp was going to go for the ride of his life because they will NEVER EVER EVER admit to what and who they are. NEVER! Even now in court Amber is being exposed and she continues the charade and doubles down with even MORE tales of abuse. Claims she has never said in the over two years I have been following this very very closely as I have a desire to see her be exposed and pay for her crimes. They cannot abide humiliation and losing the power they had of anonymity. I suspect when she gets on the stand we will see her doing the performance of her life. And with her Cluster Bs she will do it in a way that is convincing because the normal person can't fathom creating such hideous lies about an innocent person. It's hard to grasp the depth of depravity one would have to just be fine with destroying someone's life and career. The irony is that she has ended up destroying her own life and career. The earthquake she started when she first decided to blackmail Johnny into giving her divorce demands so she would not tell people the lie that he had abused her, which gave her the balls to write an OPED insinuating again that Johnny had abused her, and then Johnny deciding he's had enough of her lies has turned into this Tsunami which is decimating her life. She has in essence abused herself. Johnny has had insurmountable support from his fans and people like me who have been a victim of people like her. We see Amber for what she is. And even though Hollywood for the most part has thrown Johnny away, we all love him and support him. Being an addict does not make you violent. Violent people don't need drugs to be violent. Johnny was coping with living with a nightmare of a person and desperately trying to make her happy. It just took him awhile to figure out that nothing would ever make her happy. So he left, and then the campaigning and traps she had been setting up came into use. I hope he wins, but if he doesn't he has already won in the court of public opinion.

I couldn't wait until they put the 'dealmaker' Richard Marx? witness seasoned lawyer ( has been a lawyer for 50 yrs) that worked on Rocky, Star Wars against these aggressive lawyers. There is absolutely no reason for them to act that way. I loved how he gave it right back to them. They kept referring to the sun magazine ( it seems as if they're putting all their eggs into the UK trial basket) and he called it a rag mag where they have women's breasts on the third page LOL and how it's not taken seriously like other magazines Ie. variety, Washington Post, New York Times etc. He summed it up very succinctly when he said 'actions speak louder than words' in Hollywood when it came to Johnny pretty much being blacklisted. The harassment towards the analytic witness was absolutely horrible. I guess their tactic is to berate any witness even if it's not a hostile witness. I often think Johnny's side doesn't object because they are making themselves look like fools. You get more with honey than with vinegar.

If I was in jury it would piss me off that the witness is continually disrupted. You would want to hear what people have to say on both sides so that you could make a good assessment. There are things you want to hear and when someone is continually blocking something from being said it paints a negative picture on the defences side.

Judge is letting defense basically testify, while asking witnesses if they can read, or recall stuff from the Sun Trial. She let Cat Lady bring in way too much UK trial stuff, while the judge said that case wasnt fair. They wouldn't show any of the articles, bc they either don't quote anybody in the know, or they reference the abuse allegations and op ed. I love how their defense is Dan Wooten, who is a personal friend of AH, and was fed all the info from her. Her entire defense is cancelation via proxy. She teams with all these other sources to avoid consequence. It won't work with the public.
Dan is also a close friend of the UK judges wife.

It's not speculation or foundation or open ended questions. Defense doesn't ask open ended questions (unless on normal depositions/less on these bc they're being uses as testimony), they ask crafted yes or no statements that ignore all context and make look as bad as possible. Court tv continues to grow, public will become more and more enraged out how our legal system operates in the courtroom, and not just outside of it.

I was watching the live feed on CBS’s channel today (Monday, May 2) and it cut out for a few minutes from 1:19:42 to 1:23:09. I didn’t think anything of it because there was an objection made by Amber’s team right before that and I thought there was a technical problem during that time. When it picked back up again, I noticed the question was never addressed and the subject had changed. Again I didn’t think it a big deal. Then my husband tells me later in the day, “Hey did you hear that witness say that Johnny had a deal with Disney to do Pirates 6 for $22.5 million?” I said, “WHAT? How did I missed that? I’ve listened to nearly the entire thing!” He showed me the clip from Law & Crime’s recorded feed and I said, “WTF! I saw this guy’s testimony in full on CBS’s LIVE feed and this wasn’t in there! …buuut there was a few minutes where the live feed cut out…hmmm.” I went back to the CBS video and discovered that the few minutes where the feed cut out is exactly the time frame in which the witness answered probably one of the most important questions of this trial. My husband and I both agree that, considering Amber’s team is hellbent on proving Johnny never lost a deal with Disney for P6 because “a deal was never made,” this was a bombshell moment and perhaps CBS is trying to hide it… Any thoughts on this?
