Get yourself a paint brush from the art store for your grease application. Cut a small notch in the lid of the grease tub so the brush can stay with the grease, and the grease will stay clean. Just a small tip I have enjoyed using for decades. Love your channel, keep up the great work...
There is a product that will rehydrate the rubber so it will grow back to its normal size. Or atleast closer to new. I learned about it while working in the printing industry, I did maintenance. The printers have huge rubber rollers to transfer ink, and to move papper. Anyways there is a product "rubber rejuvenator" this will help bring rubber parts back to life, counter acting the natural off gassing effect. Rubber Rejuvenator will help rehydrate the rubber...

I love watching the fine detail tedious stuff. I always take things apart and make them look new when I'm rebuilding stuff even if it's just going to get thrashed on my race quad.
Everything's looking good man, I do recommend when your chasing threads by putting a tap in the drill don't tighten the chucks so hard on the tap leave it loose enough that if the tap catches for some reason the chucks will slip on the tap, it will save you alot of headache if a tap catches and breaks off in the threads for some reason im speaking from experience I learned that trick the hard way!

I can’t wait to see the final product, the ATV videos are definitely my favorite for sure. A drag race 250R sounds like a sweet build, I’d really like to see a proper XC machine built at some point. It seems like nobody builds true CC machines on camera, they do MX and trail builds all the time, but never a pure XC machine.
@@MichaelSabo well, the motor needs to be a low to mid range build but still have enough top speed for short field sections (kind of a drag race through fields but mostly being able to pull through mud and up hills), suspension shouldn’t be more than 48” wide, 46-48” is kind of the sweet spot. Long travel and max ground clearance is ideal but the main thing is keeping it narrow enough to fit in between trees at high rates of speed. Suspension is a little softer but shock companies will set them up for your weight for XC, 21-22” tires are best for ruts, heel guards are mandatory but some people still run nerf bars which are optional, bead locks with tire balls or tire blocks is a must when running 1.5-2 hour long races, oversized gas takes are amazing and dry break systems are common because you will have to stop for fuel at some point during the race, motors are not built crazy because reliability is key (most people will port their engines and maybe run cams or something if it’s a4 stroke. Majority of mods are bolt on such as exhaust, filter, etc. Outside of all that you will need skids, sprocket guards, hand guards, and anything that can reduce fatigue for long fast pace rides (such as urmosi products 🤷🏼♂️). Always think reliability and durability. Unless someone is a pro and can rebuild their machine each race then they need to make sure whatever they build can last a season other than maintenance or fixing things from hitting trees. Bumping up compression and running race gas is common but many guys are in a budget and run standard compression and premium pump gas. Wide bumpers and drop grab bars are important because you might get stuck and have to move the machine, but outside of all this it’s not a crazy build, but an XC build is way more practical for someone like yourself who trail rides a lot. Hell, even building an older 450ER for XC would be cool to watch, you can check out Hannah Hunter’s 450R and you can see what she runs in the womens pro class. It’s surprisingly simpler than most people would think because suspension and protection is key
You will not be disappointed with the phase 1 mods. I did the same and its a night/day difference! No major loss on the bottom and the mid-upper hit is much more aggressive, so the Wrench Report review is accurate. I think you will be happy with the results!
I had the boost port added (and exhaust port widened) recently. Noticeable power increase, but quickly got a hole in the cylinder wall by the added boost port. The material is too thin there. Did you do something different to avoid that issue with the thin cylinder wall?
My issue with red loctite on the basket screws is that you need heat to get them out which would probably melt your unobtainium clutch dampers. Love your builds man. Really makes me want an old quad from my youth.
Hey Mike, wanted to say nice build. Everything is looking really good. FYI: The reason why most (if not all) motor builders Locktite the studs in is because you'd have to torque the studs in tighter than the recommended torque specs to prevent the studs from unthreading when removing the head or cylinder nuts. That make sense?

A note to those wanting to add the boost port to the Z cylinder, be careful not to make it too big. You want to leave enough aluminum towards the side where the cylinder mounts to maintain its strength. It's definitely a great mod, but take too much and the cylinder can crack, especially with a high compression setup. I've done this mod myself without any problem, but others have seen it happen.

So you talked of taking the the shield of the bearings when you rebuilt the carrier to pack more grease in the bearings in your next video or near future could you go over how you did that I ride in a lot of mud and go through wheel bearings way to fast (31s don't help) really just cover how you take the shield off and install back on thanks man been following since the 426ex build and absolutely love your work can't wait to see more about your corvette build
That's a ton of work and very tedious. I've not gone that far into any builds yet. I have done a 660 grizzly, but only the cooling system. I would love to strip it down and get it blasted, but that means a much bigger shop to store everything labeled. Awesome content and thanks for taking us to the shop to see that way they redo all the parts and get them vapor blasted.
Wow Michael i cant believe you did this to us. We had to wait 55 minutes for a bultaco 👍 😂😂. In the early 80s i had an 82 250r 3 wheeler and there was a company in Hesperia calif called Terry Cable. They offered fork revalving and better swingarm bushings for that bike and i had that work done. What a difference. Just wanted to say all the little details you do make those machines what they are and this was an awesome look at a kind of back stage pass . This is why i hope you pull the vette motor and do it right. Any attempt at turning that motor will only hurt it now. Thanks for the video BULTACOS RULE. 😂😂✌️
Only bonded rubber bushings on suspension components need tightened while loaded...polyurethane and or bearing style bushings can be tightened unloaded as the center sleeve is able to rotate inside its bore.
Love the little 250r announcement, also I wouldn’t mind watching you do a suzuki lt250 build, I’m doing one myself and it would be nice to see a pro do one so I know what I’m doing.
A tap will definitely wallow out the threads. If you're using a GO/NOGO gauge, you'll notice the threads opening up after a couple extra cycles. But for stuff like this, it doesn't really do much to hurt the threads integrity if you're careful.
You should have the headlight housing 3d scanned, and have someone 3d print one to have a carbon fiber mold made from. Just a thought. Might be able to get that cool carbon piece and save the OEM one as well. Can't wait for d day on this one.

I wouldn't mind doing one. I've had thoughts of an IRS build made for XC which would call for some serious research since I've never done XC.

You could try dyeing the tri z chain slider black with rit dye. This bikes gonna be a work of art when assembled.
You can buy and pour urethane parts at home. Make a mold , mix , pour, Done. It's nice to replace rubber parts that can't be replaced .
