Having Ozpin be just as bad as Salem, seeing Oscar, learning that he is connected to both Ozpin and Hazel and then meeting Maria again. This was an amazing pair of episodes.
I wonder what oscar’s connection to hazel and ozpin is. Because ozpin being hazel’s elder brother is something I didn't see coming but it actually gave hazel and tangible and even understandable reason for hating ozpin but where does Oscar fit into all of it? I don't think McNeil would add it without planning to flesh it out and give a satisfying payoff.
@@Fierce-energies that or Ozpin last host was Oscar grown up. Watching your little brother grown up and be possessed by a wizard. May make you mad also look at the guys clothes seems like a green re color of Oscar outfit
@@ghostwolf2831 hmmm 🤔 it's an interesting thing to think about especially since the story has stayed true to the canon while also diverging a lot from it. The biggest change being roman torchwick still being alive and being ozpin’s new host. And it begs the question of is what you said correct did Oscar still become ozpin’s host just before the start of the story or is he still alive and will possibly have some kind of role in the story going forward? Because if Oscar is still alive he's clearly not with hazel as hazel is with Salem I mean he could potentially be with his unseen grandmother from canon which would technically make her hazel and magus’ grandmother as well but I digress. But this just shows how good the story is that we can talk and have these discussions about these things in the story. And I don't know if it's just me but I like this version of Salem and ozpin’s backstory as opposed to the canon version.
Good to see that Salem did care about her children’s deaths as opposed to seemingly being an afterthought in the original. Also, Vernal will be missed.
She looked like she was blinded by rage and grief and I’m hoping that they can find a way to bring back both Vernal and Pyrrha. I know people say that bringing the two of them back would be too much of a deus ex machina and would damage the plot, but the both of them deserve to return and be happy with the people that love them.
Ozma shielding Salem’s eyes as they leave the castle so she doesn’t see anything is darkly hilarious. The book switching hands was interesting. The God’s designs were nice. The God of Death defending his decision and not regretting it was nice. The God of life being the one to curse Salem was a nice change. The story changing as it goes on was nice. All the characters realizing something is really wrong as their portion of the story ends was trippy as hell. The reason as to why the war goes on is honestly really tragic rather then Ozpin (or Salem) just being really incompetent (or in Salem’s case lazy). Maria’s introduction was great, funny but also badass.
@@thomasraines1396 that is his motivation love still in his heart but i also think the second one is his tasks is nearly impossible he is worried about human behavior aka the evil within man's heart but the gods arent portrayed as good either so i guess its a everyone is grey sort of story.
The story is great and all but the fact the you segmented each part of their story in a diferent in-universe fairy tale was just fantastic, incredible form to present their story. Also as a Shin Megami Tensei fan I want to show my full support to punch god in the face. Please Phoenix, tell me we are building up a face off against god.
@@aceface5188 under SMT rules Ruby will have to: first team up with a chaos aligment character (probably Salem), kill all her friends that oppose her, install Pierce in Crecent Rose, kill god and/or their avatar and finally, using cosmic demonic power, reshape the world to a form she likes it. NGL i dig it.
Si, esa parte estuvo muy god. And since we're talking about gods, I don't think punching either of them in the face is a good idea, there's no way they aren't going to be snapped to ashes xd
Loved this episode. Gave the Gods actual features, gave Salem a relatable character and back story in the show instead of in outside material. Instead of being the girl who lied and got everybody killed like in the Salem Witch trials, blaming everyone and not taking responsibility for her actions, they made her a tragic character. She was a prisoner, lost her love, tried to do good and was continuously abandoned or left alone. Jinn giving a more distinct answer, in a monkeys paw sort of way, to how to stop Salem and a legit reason for Ospin wanting to keep the game going. And giving the Grim Reaper a badass moment at the end was the cherry on top. As most important old people in anime, they HAVE be a badass in some regard, and she didn’t disappoint.
I still didn't get why Ozpin wants the game going, I mean she clearly hates him so why bother with her. Idk feels like I need more detailed explanation of the Salem backstory since I didn't understood some moments in the end about why did she specifically turn evil, where do grimm come in? Their citizens didn't look like grimm before. And what about those kids? Who are they?
23:38 it looks like Oscar is coughing here. Did he get really sick and die, and that's why Hazel hates Ozpin? Because he basically destroyed the family completely? Did Salem promise to bring Oscar back somehow? This one frame is already so interesting to me.
same, If they are brothers in this universe that would mean so much more into Hazels hatred for Ozpin and it's a cleaver thing to have Oscar being the sibling who dies.
Loved this episode, from how it gave more character to Ozma and Salem, explained why they fell through, made it pretty clear that the Gods were pretty petty to curse the entire human race for the actions of one, and finally demonstrating how Salem fell to what she is now as she didn't start out bad, but thousands of years of loss, pain and isolation twisted her into the very monster the Gods condemned her to be. The whole thing when we see each character reading a different part of the same story, each 'chapter' under a different name and seemingly disconnected from one another was a nice way to demonstrate how fractured the original story has gotten over the many millennia. Maria's part did make me laugh as of course she would play the old mentor that _could_ kick ass, but isn't in their prime anymore
Once again, a major improvement over the original backstory. The Grimm make more sense as being anomalies in the world instead being part of the ecosystem. Also the Salem redesign is phenomenal
Between the main show and this version: Oz's first resurrection is what caused the Grimm to "born", they hadn't already existed. Salem was only cursed by the god of light/life, and the brothers's fight lasted much longer then a quick back and forth and only ended when Salem took their place in the hearts of the people. The spirits of the Relics seem to have been four human Magi before the Brother's killed them along with Humanity. Upon/after their reunion Oz and Salem were a bit more open/understanding about what the other had been through, but after their children were killed things fell apart from there(rather then the kids being dying because of their fight). Lastly because Salem couldn't be killed or defeated(and the world's many other problems) Oz wouldn't finish his mission out of fear the Brothers would find them unworthy and destroy Remnant once and for all. Of the two versions this one is the better explained/written, though still ultimately lands our heroes in similar enough positions in either version, up against an Immortal Witch with command over the Grimm and no real/working plan to deal with the situation.
I love that you see from the start those little seeds of his character, saving her through cunning rather than bravery, and that clearly being where Salem learned it from herself when she approached the gods. Amazing job this episode, team!
Not only is the whole story book stuff a better way to reveal Ozpins past it also gives life to the world as it reinforces the whole 'these are fariy tails of the world'. Unlike in the original where it's just an exposition dump.
It makes much morr sense for the grimm to be a side effect of trying to resurect a human. It never made sense in the actual show why the grimm were made to destroy the light god's creations, but then not attack animal except for territoral disputes.
When the questions are asked, Jinn is clearly emphasising “you” when answering. Meaning Ozpin cannot defeat Salem, and Salem can’t be killed by anyone, but someone else can defeat her.
So, Ozpin doesn't want to joing the relics because then the gods would come and Salem would die. Salem wants the gods back so they can kill her and doesn't mind if they destroy the rest of Remnant with her. Team RWBY however, want Salem dead but Remnant save. Man, what a Three-Way!
I´ll admit that this was going to be the hardest episode of FRWBY to win me over, because "The Lost Fables" is honestly my favourite episode of RWBY in general, even with all the MAJOR FLAWS that Volume 6 had it was still one of my favourites. But i´ll admit it, this is definitely better that that episode, you even fixed one of my most hated scenes in Volume 6 where everyone is dogpiling on Ozpin/Oscar for not telling them about a very personal and VERY TRAUMATIC life story. Keep up the stellar work Celtic.
Same It always threw me when outta nowhere Qrow Hercules punches Oz/Oscar. I mean you have been with this guy for years and knew he had secrets and for good reason. Now you just smack him down and claim he was the worst luck of your life? Seriously? Ok rant over
Yes! Thank you! I mean I get why the crew is angry especially Qrow, they all trusted Ozpin only to learn that he was leading them in a war he didn’t have any idea on how to win and was lying about that fact so their initial outburst was reasoneable from a character point. But afterwards? How come no one ever thought "Shit man, we basically forced Ozpin to live through all of his trauma, his love turning evil, watching his childeren die, him dying many times fighting a desperate war. Only to then just dog piled on him for keeping secrets and not having a plan to beat Salem. Maybe we shouldn't have done that, maybe we should have shown him, I don't know AN OUNCE OF COMPASSIOM." after their initial outburst. Give Oz a break, he didn’t deserve any of this. He is just a pawn in the Gods game to make Salem suffer cause she upset them(and no, no one will ever convince me that the God of Light choose Ozma for a reason other than to fuck with Salem even more. If you don’t agree just read "the simpler things that you’ve long forgotten" by MorteLise on Ao3, it will change your mind)
@@nightshadoew436 Qrow punching Oz/Oscar was fair. Since Qrow spent decades loyally following Oz losing his teammate and sister just to find out the war was unwinnable. Yeah, Qrow's reaction was reasonable to me. But their treatment of Oz after volume Six was the tipping point since they all were hypocrites! They got mad at Oz for keeping secrets, yet they did exactly what Oz did to them with Ironwood. An ally who had good intentions and proper communication could have avoided the Volume 8 garbage fire. But no, they decide to do the same thing that Oz did to them!
This was excellent. - The design of the characters was well done, even if I don´t really approve of the black attire Salem, yet I have watched anime so can´t really judge. - Story of Ozpin and Salem is good. - Spoilers: So the gods treated their creations as playthings instead of experiments and the conflict between Salem and Ozpin is due to the 2 growing apart. This was better character-wise. - Reveal of Maria was better in this, showing that she´s a huntress always no matter what. - Pretty much hate Ozpin´s decision. Salem won´t stop until everyone in Remnant is dead and she needs to stopped so that the suffering she brings can stop. Then again who am I to judge? It is highly likely that these so-called Gods will just erase humanity and Faunus completely just to spite Salem and prolong her torment. Edited.
I hope that Ruby and her friends won't turn against Ozpin and his host after finding out his past with Salem and how Remnant used to be via Jinn, the genie from the Lamp of Knowledge.
They show Ozpin been allowing Salem to wreck havoc on humanity for years. Just because he doesn’t want to see her die. Ozpin has allowed trillions to be killed just so Salem can live
@@ghostwolf2831 To be fair and even so, Ozpin is still the only one who knows Salem best and how she operates. Whether the group like it or not, he's still a valuable asset to defeat, or at least incapacitate Salem. It'd be unwise if they all just gang up on him and throw him away. The problem however, is how much is Ozpin going to tell them himself. Best way they could do is to make Ozpin omit everything and it's gonna take a good listener to accomplish that. Hopefully one of the Huntsmen from the group steps up to be the REAL adult in the room and do just that. Just like Weiss said in Fixing V5, they can argue about semantics later.
So I assume Oscar is either Grettles son or instead of having a sister, Hazel had a younger brother (Oscar) that died because of Ozpin. THIS IS SO GOOD! KEEP IT UP!
You my good sir, have sin me with too many cliffhanger. Joke aside this is very good. I like the idea where everyone is in a lucid dream reading each reading different chapter of oz’s and Salem backstories and waking up figuratively and literally more confused than ever. Also Granny is back and cranky as ever.
I like how the retellings of Oz and Salem's past lives paint Ozpin in a more gray light. I've always agreed that keeping the fact the big bad can't be killed a secret from those who have dedicated themselves to fight alongside you is a bad move on Ozpin's part and prompts justifiable anger and mistrust. However, I found the decision to keep him dead for the majority of the flashback an odd one. Humanity was wiped out because of the gods, and the gods abandoned Remnant because of Salem. Ozma's presence was absent during those events, so he couldn't really relate to any of it, nor could he share the blame with Salem who was 100% at fault. In the canon series, Ozpin's greatest crime is not letting the hunters who fight for him know that they are fighting an unending war. In this story, Ozpin's reasons for prolonging the war so as to not see Salem die are selfish and, dare I say, human. That said, wouldn't you get the same answer when asking whether it's possible to stop or defeat someone? Feels like he wasted a question.
The storybook framing is pretty neat. It's nice that Ozpin at least tried different wording for clarification on how to deal with Salem, which makes it seem like Jinn is purposely giving him the impression he can't do anything about her. I got the impression that the light god making Salem immortal until she learns to value life was a key part of how she would be defeated in RWBY. Since Salem and Ozpin are pretty much immortal until the gods let them die, pretty much the only solution to the conflict between them is to talk things out between eachother and/or the gods. Not exactly an easy task.
Good job fixing Ozpin and Salem's conflict to feel more tragic and understandable. Rather than Ozpin being an idiot that only asked one question he actually used all three, and the changes to his motivation make this a far muddier conflict than RWBY proper. That's one of the major issues I have with this volume down. I'm curious how you'll handle the other one. Considering previous episodes though, I have full confidence you'll stick the landing.
I love the new story. It gives way more characterization to Salem and Ozma and makes them both more greyish(as apposed to the show where Evil Salem was almost pure evil and Ozma was pure good except for keeping the fact that Salem can't be killed a secret), shows the Gods as basically petulant childeren (Oh you think the person who is trying to protect you from the mess the three of us caused, well it was mostly us gods but she helped, while me and my brother fight is better than us? Welp seems like it's genocide time), the presentation of the story as fairytails feeding into the "all tales are based in truth" point from season 3 and 4, Oz actually asking more questions about Salem, Evil Salems looks. It's all magnifecent. I do have one question tho, why did Ozpin choose to keep Salem alive after the 3rd question? If he really didn’t want to see Salem die why ask the final question? Was his plan to find whoever could kill Salem and stop them from doing so? Or would he have considered killing Salem if the person who could do that was anyone other than the Gods who created this whole mess in the first place? Does he wants to keep the war going on forever because he just doesn't want to see Salem die or does he feal the Gods would deem humanity unworyh and kill everyone aswell when they return? Okay, it wasn't one question but one just leads to another.
@@Wolf-dn7uo I honestly hope it doesn't, atleast not in a way that makes it Ozpins fault. If Oz sent Summer to fight/kill Salem that would be very bad for his character. However if he sent Summer to lets say keep Salem occupied while they save a village/secure a maiden then that wouldn't really change anything about Summers death, she still knowingly would have went on a suicide mission to save others. I think her story is way more interesting when it's just her dying a hero and leaving behind her family as a consuqence
23:01 Ugh Genies am I right they always have to twist your words don't they. 23:41 Credit to the artist on this one for giving Oscar a cameo. Plus I like that instead of living the lives of the men he's assimilated Oz just left their families to fight his war. 25:44 Ah Maria one of the best characters in the show and a character that would make more sense wearing a blindfold Adam. And theres my one per episode.
"Nothing beside remains" reminds me the poem "Ozymandias". Very clever title, considering the people led by Salem taught they would beat the Gods. It reminds me where Ramses tried to be immortal with his sculptures, only for a ruined lone statue to survive in his ever growing grave. Salem stands on the grave she caused by challenging the gods. Nothing beside remains.
Truly the most unique episode you’ve made! So many great moments all throughout. Yang picturing herself reading the story to a young Ruby and Vernal, showing that she still wishes she had made things right with Vernal. Weiss reading by Vernal’s grave because despite the fact she is gone, Weiss still holds her close. And Ruby reading to her father likely after the death of Summer is just so tragic and heartbreaking, especially with Ruby’s innocence making it seem as if she doesn’t even know. But truly the best part was seeing that Ozpin is just as bad as Salem. Finally he truly is morally grey and everyone now has a right to be more upset with him. And Oscar! I didn’t think we’d see him in this rewrite but I’m so glad we did! That’s amazing! Can’t wait to see what’s next, especially with the inclusion of Maria!
@@jouvancejoseph3938 as Raven had said all the way back in Fixing Volume 5 “he’s not trying to save the world, he’s just keeping it the way he likes it” he’s keeping the world a terrible place to make sure that things don’t change.
I like that you went with the brother gods fighting one another cause the world into chaos in this one, cause not gonna lie I kind of felt that the brother that was darkness and death was way to believing and forgiving of his brother who was light and life. Like I get Rwby wanted to do with those character, it just felt off to me and I am glad I am not the only one.
I was honestly really scared of where you were gonna take this story, scared you were gonna keep Ozpin being an abused man just being abused more. I like this story a lot tho, I like how it garners a reaction against Ozpin that actually makes sense and isn’t just victim blaming. I’m nervous, but I can’t wait to see team RWBY+’s hopefully varied reactions to this information
Reminds me a lot of the Canterbury Tales and the Hyperion Cantos (specifically, the first book in the series). Although the difference here is that the tales are spoken not by the main characters, but by a entire trance of a spell. Well done, Celtic and this team you call The Sketchy Huntsmen.
Story-wise, I'm curious as to why you decided to change the Gods from the brotherly rivalry to a full-scale war? One of the more interesting things about RWBY's gods to me was despite how opposed they were symbolically, they were actually rather cordial to each other and understanding. Edit: That being said REALLY digging these redesigns
Notes: - The art continues to be spectacular. - The father is a bit confusing to me. He locks his daughter away completely for her safety. Not good, but I wouldn't call it evil or anything. He even gives her a gift to try and help with her lonliness. And then kills anyone who tries to rescue his daughter (maybe Salem made her notes seem like he was a cruel man holding her hostage) like instead of talking or sending them away he kills them? Maybe he just saw everyone as a threat idk. - The transition to different characters reading is really cool. - I love that the gods have cool, distinct designs instead of just being gold and purple blobs. - So both the gods created the Grimm? - I like the Salem feels regret for the Grimm and tries to do good, only for the gods to screw her over again, this time out of pure jealousy. It gives Salem even more justified reason to hate the gods. - "Freed from sins" so does that mean if Oz succeeded, they would have gotten rid of the Grimm? It would give Oz more incentive to collect the relics. Or maybe it's the threat of the world dying that spurred Oz into action. Either way, if I were him I'd have a ton of questions before agreeing. - Him and Salem's reunion was way better than the OG and I like the he does start to question the gods and realize them returning to Earth wouldn't help humanity at all. - So I guess Ozma being so bothered by the cruelty of humanity would motivate him to spread his kingdom's influence. I just find it funny how Oz wants to expand and Salem looks hesitant, then Salem wants to do it and Oz looks hesitant. Did he not want to do it anymore? If so, why? I imagine all this will get expanded on anyway. - So Oz asks a more sensible question here. But it seems like it's pointing towards someone else being able to stop Salem, especially with the 'you' being emphasized. But of course he goes with the word 'killed' at the end. It makes sense he doesn't want to kill her, but why not ask if she can be stopped instead? - That scen with Hazel did more for his backstory than anything the OG show did. I really love the change. - I love Maria, but I'm also afraid we might be reaching cast bloat.
love the redesign of the gods and the Oscar cameo was cool, though I doubt you'll do anymore with him. What if Oscar was Ozpin's son that would be so cool and it would give an excuse for him to join the team, so much drama would be created!
I’m amazed😍 I remember in original RWBY this was my favorite episode because it finally explained things. But this is honestly better, it explains things better and makes more sense. I love how mysterious it all feels with it being told through different story books, making it feel like it’s something I have to put together like a puzzle. I also love how it feels like no one is in the wrong or in the right. Oz feels selfish and sometimes even cold, while Salem feels like she’s tired and worn down and just frustrated. And you can’t really blame them for being like that because they’re immortal and become so detached from their humanity. I also like how at the end it gave some REALLY good reasons to be mad and feel betrayed at Oz in the end, that all these years he was never truly protecting the world, he was protecting Salem. Although I’ll admit I don’t know if I could trust the gods not to turn on humanity if they are summoned. And I love that Hazel’s hatred makes so much sense, not only did Oz take his brother but he didn’t even try to heal the wound he left, he just abandoned them. Oh! Also I'm so glad the questions were handled so much better! It annoyed me for so long that no one considered phrasing the questions differently in case of another answer. But Oz drops even trying when he's faced with the chance that killing Salem is the only option. Unfortunately Oz missed the emphasis on "YOU cannot". Anyway I loved how trippy this all felt❤️🤍🖤💛
I have to say this is an interesting twist on the objectives placed in the original series. In the original, Ozpin's separation of the relics was the only way to protect humanity, in this one, he's separating them to keep Salem alive, who ironically has the opposite goal of dying by collecting all the relics together. Now, the original series very much stressed the concept of unity. In fact, I'm pretty sure this was the theme of the original series of RWBY. Ozpin gives lectures on the importance of unity, it's the reason for the vital festival, Adam opposes unity between Faunus and Humanity whereas Ghira and Blake fight for it, Salem tries to separate people and make them fight as her greatest tool to destroy her enemies. And in this episode in the original series Unity became the end goal in the series. The day wasn't going to be saved by stopping Salem from getting the four relics, that was bound to happen; it was going to be saved by uniting humanity before the relics were brought together so that when the gods reappeared they would spare humanity. I'm pretty much 100% positive that was where the original story was going. This one episode is probably the most drastic change in the plotline of the entire series as it sets up for a completely different resolution of the conflict. BTW I don't know if the idea is still that the silver eyes descend from the God of Creation, but if they are, I thought that the fact that in this version the God of Creation was also partially responsible for the creation of the Grim might be the explanations as to why Salem needed people with silver eyes to be able to fuse them with Grim.
After a day of work this is exactly what I needed. These episodes were amazing, they addressed nearly every problem I had with the original, and the art was stellar as usual, actually I'd say the art was even better this episode. Big props to everyone who worked on this.
I love this version of the story. The different fairy tail framing devices effectively tell the story, yet give a sense that there is a greater truth lost to time. I do wonder how clear this would be if we didn't already all know the story from regular RWBY. Perhaps that would be fixed with visuals if this was regular RWBY. PS: Slight missed opportunity to call them the gods of Comedy and Tragedy.
It’s so weird that everyone is reading so heavily into the Oscar cameo. Hazel’s reason for joining Salem is that Ozpin possessed his other brother. Did no one watch Fixing RWBY volume 5?
The god of darkness looks like he's gonna roll me a joint and the god of light looks like he's gonna pass a bong my way. That's how i see it and hopefully everyone else as well
So the god of death knowingly broke the rules of reality which brought about the Grimm. Did he not have the power negate the paradox, did he not care? Also Never thought the gods would resort to gaslighting. 12:28
Talented, Wonderful, amazing, spectacular, never the same oh gods i love this episode so much, and the moral ambiguities!!!! aaaah!!! u guys did such a good job with this, i also just cries because i am so sad for salem! and cool oscar cameo, ough this next parts gonna hurty also love the maria redesign!!! oh i forgot to mention i love the portrayal of the framing device as different stories being strung together through different flashbacks, etc.
Opinion was told that he couldn't defeat Salem.. HE could not, he loves Salem still even if unwilling to admit or acknowledge it. Gotta love tgebsubtle hints.
He was? That could have solved the whole problem. Assemble the relics and summon the gods then just let Kratos do his thing, all solved. Well there’s still Salem but killing the Gods might have helped her see the pain she was causing clearly, it worked for Kratos so why not Salem
Well this certainly made things somewhat more tragic. Glad there wasn't as much shouting, punching and turning on Oz as the original. Although he seems to be more guilty this time. The gods seem more petty or at least the one of life almost like Zeus. Or is that just me? Interesting choice to have time still continue on while using the relic. Well I'm curious now if the gang will keep this from Ironwood or actually be trusting since he trusts so much to them. Unless that changes too.
I watched this 2 times and listened to it once, and I am loving it more and more. The original episode by Rooster Teeth was one of my favorite watches in Volume 6, but your rendition is truly shocking and extremely tragic. Blows their work clean out of the water. I can't help but keep re-listening / re-watching. This is truly a work other art. Of course, rivaled only be Fatman's Abridged of this episode. I mean, the god of death creating vodka, you can't beat that! Haha
First off. LOVE the transitions between each story arc. The execution of the exposition is very interesting. Keeps the viewers engage since we also get a bit of extra glimpes of our characters. Although I had a bit of a "unreliable narrator" vibe at the start for some odd reason. Special props to the new god designs. The God of death especially was really great. I actually can't fully remember the original story. But I do believe that Oz did not turn his back on the gods. and the fact that in here, he loves her so much to do so, does work better. It even supports why he can't get himself to kill her. I see what you did with the dialogue when he asks Jinn. Wonderfully subtle. Also, You're making Oscar the youngest brother to Hazel and Oz? Fascinating choice. Curious to see where you'll go with this change. And lastly, Suprise to see Maria. Fun introduction. Interested to see how she will help them in this situation. Aside from kicking ass, of course.
Headcanon in this continuity is that the dissapearance of silver eyed warriors (and perhaps the idea of silver eyed people being warriors to begin with) is because Ozpin is intentionally sacrificing them to Salem in an attempt to stay her hand. If this is canon to this rewrite, it would really spice up salem's yo momma joke next volume (give her teammates a reason to freak out so that they don't have to comfort the clearly distraught Ruby) Edit: I just remembered I actually don't know what happened to Summer. Has that ever been addressed anywhere? I'm not the most knowledgeable about the lore and haven't seen vol 9 as of the editing of this comment Edit 2: Are the silver eyed warriors still implied to be Oz's kids in this rewrite? If so, it might make more sense to take them under his wing and less sense to use them as pawns. Maybe Oz had reason to believe Summer might be able to harm Salem, but Salem didn't see it that way and concluded that she was a temporary peace offering from her ex?
Will there be new Grimm? Here’s an idea: Psyrens. Mermaid-like Grimm that use their anglerfish lures to cause hallucinations to catch their prey; loved ones, treasure food, etc. When the target notices a flaw, they start glitching between forms to reveal their bulging eyes and needle teeth.
Amazing as always, CelticPheonix! I have a theory about where this is going that I feel compelled to share: -Ozpin cannot bring himself to stop loving Salem, no matter how bitter she becomes, no matter how many atrocities she commits, no matter how much she grows to resent him. He loves her and can't bring himself to kill her even if she wasn't immortal. -The eternal conflict between Ozpin and Salem has become routine for them. It's tragic from a human perspective, but it is simply comfortable from their immortal perspectives so they have little motivation to cease their struggle. It is all they have now. -Ozpin wants to be with Salem, but he cannot be. Ozpin wants Salem to live and I assume that means that Salem wants to die. But the only way she can die is by the hands of the Gods, which means that she needs the Relics. -I am guessing that Salem's plan is to gather the Relics, summon the Gods and have them kill her. Whether they destroy the world in the process or not doesn't matter to her anymore. She just needs it to end. Ozpin knows that the Gods WILL destroy the world if Salem summons them. If the war ends, the world ends. Ozpin doesn't want the world to fall again, and he doesn't want Salem to die, but he cannot stop, kill or bring Salem back to "the light". So the solution: keep the war going eternally. Ozpin's motivations are selfish, but he is still acting in the interest of keeping the world alive while keeping his lost love alive as well. To him, this is the only way that he can do the "right thing" (keeping humanity alive) while doing what he wants (keeping Salem alive). I Ioved these episodes and am very excited to see how future plot points are handled. The effort to keep as much from the official show but improve on all of it is extremely admirable. Bravo to everyone involved.
Ozma shielding Salem’s eyes from the carnage he caused is kinda funny.
I mean he just killed her whole family and everyone she knows and she seems not to realize it (or more likely doesn't care).
That Picture has Meme Potential

A very enthusiastic walk.

Oh, so the white haired man we know as "Ozpin" is named Magnus? I never knew that.
Good to see that Salem did care about her children’s deaths as opposed to seemingly being an afterthought in the original.
Also, Vernal will be missed.
She did kind of wind up killing the rest of them when she destroyed the tower.
She looked like she was blinded by rage and grief and I’m hoping that they can find a way to bring back both Vernal and Pyrrha. I know people say that bringing the two of them back would be too much of a deus ex machina and would damage the plot, but the both of them deserve to return and be happy with the people that love them.
Agreed, this Vernal definitely had more of a significant impact.

Rooster Teeth just made the Gods featureless images, but you guys went the extra mile to give them distinctive looks.

@@tudoraragornofgreyscot8482 FRWBY's version is MILF status.
"I just threw out my BAaAaAck!" 😆
Oz being the RWBY version of Ozymandias is so clever I feel like a dumbass for never thinking that
Not only is the whole story book stuff a better way to reveal Ozpins past it also gives life to the world as it reinforces the whole 'these are fariy tails of the world'. Unlike in the original where it's just an exposition dump.
Epic ending with Maria with the save followed by an hilarious, “I JUST THREW OUT MY BAAAAACK!” 😂
Interesting twist, making the Grimm into a byproduct of twisting the natural order.

It always threw me when outta nowhere Qrow Hercules punches Oz/Oscar.
Edited.
I like the new Salem design. What’s cool is she has all the colors of RWBY on her: red eyes, white skin, black outfit, yellow chains
Brother Gods of Light and Darkness' character designs looked really awesome and badass compared to canon.
He has infinite lives so he wouldn’t care about wasting a question
8:51 Ozma: Salem… I… I don’t feel so good.
Great one. Had some interesting twists on what already existed.

25:50 "Has Anyone Seen My Pupils"
The story telling of the past was so hauntingly beautiful
I believe ozpin has struggled with this very question, I don't think he really knows the answer...
@@ltfuller This is probably the case.

And at the next chapters "My love, look opun my works, ye Mighty, and despair" wow!

What makes Ozpin so Grey? I didn't really understand much from the video.

I was honestly really scared of where you were gonna take this story, scared you were gonna keep Ozpin being an abused man just being abused more.
I love how u have it as Jinn showing us the truth thru a series of fairytales instead of her just telling us outright. Very nice. 😌
Notes:
- The art continues to be spectacular.

This was done much better than in canon. Nice touch on having each character reading the old stories.
"I just threw out my baaaack!" lol

Opinion was told that he couldn't defeat Salem.. HE could not, he loves Salem still even if unwilling to admit or acknowledge it. Gotta love tgebsubtle hints.
“I just threw out my baaaack!” 😂 great end to the episode
Dam didnt expect Ozpin to be mates with Kratos
Zeus did some petty shit but don’t think he ever killed all of humanity over a problem he caused
@@Alexthealright
Maybe but still not hard to believe he would've
@@story_appreciator6666 fair enough
I just thought about it:
Are the four Magis the Maidens?
((there's a hint in what a certain magi is wearing on their head ;D))
Worse... It appears they're the relics.
23:33 That is truely something
This is brimming with passion. Thanks for this
I watched this 2 times and listened to it once, and I am loving it more and more.
Haha

I loved how you did that book thing. It was so smart and cool. Aslo if the God of death isn't God of the afterlife basically then what is his job?
What introduction to Maria loved it!
This is even better storyline than the show. I wish the one who wrote just remake the storyline in a better way.
Headcanon in this continuity is that the dissapearance of silver eyed warriors (and perhaps the idea of silver eyed people being warriors to begin with) is because Ozpin is intentionally sacrificing them to Salem in an attempt to stay her hand.
If this is canon to this rewrite, it would really spice up salem's yo momma joke next volume (give her teammates a reason to freak out so that they don't have to comfort the clearly distraught Ruby)
Edit: I just remembered I actually don't know what happened to Summer. Has that ever been addressed anywhere? I'm not the most knowledgeable about the lore and haven't seen vol 9 as of the editing of this comment
Edit 2: Are the silver eyed warriors still implied to be Oz's kids in this rewrite? If so, it might make more sense to take them under his wing and less sense to use them as pawns. Maybe Oz had reason to believe Summer might be able to harm Salem, but Salem didn't see it that way and concluded that she was a temporary peace offering from her ex?
Will there be new Grimm? Here’s an idea:
Psyrens. Mermaid-like Grimm that use their anglerfish lures to cause hallucinations to catch their prey; loved ones, treasure food, etc. When the target notices a flaw, they start glitching between forms to reveal their bulging eyes and needle teeth.
Oh wow this was infinitely better than the original fables when it basically tells most of the same tale
Excelsior! Though what I am really waiting for is the farm ep
I like the use of Xenogears music in the, Ozymandias fable.
Also is that Oscar and Hazel, what’s the story behind that? Are they all brothers?
I presume so
Holy shit this is what RWBY should have been. This is amazing writing.
Amazing as always, CelticPheonix!
I have a theory about where this is going that I feel compelled to share:
-Ozpin cannot bring himself to stop loving Salem, no matter how bitter she becomes, no matter how many atrocities she commits, no matter how much she grows to resent him.
So, Ruby was capable of reading at the age of two? Good job!
Yes? A lot of kids can read at that age
I love this we get to see that Maria still got it
