I almost cried when I heard this. I used to watch this with my mom back in the seventies. I hated it then but now I have come to appreciate it and love it so much for its innocence and wholesomeness. I wish we had this in our society.

Growing up in the seventies and eighties, my daddy loved the Lawrence Welk Show and watched it every Saturday night. My mama loved it too. It would make me happy and as a teenager in the eighties, I got into Prince, Madonna and MTV. I thought I was way too cool for the Lawrence Welk Show. As an adult and with both my parents gone, I realized how much I actually loved it. It brings me back to a simpler time in my life. Miss you daddy and mama, watching the Lawrence Welk Show.

I grew up hating this song since my Grandparents tortured us with Lawrence Welk. My Dad, who is now departed would yell "turn this shit off" every time it was on. Now, I'm an adult and I have such fondness for this song. I sang this to both of my daughters as babies. They know this song well. This song makes me happy, but also makes me sad since I'd give anything to be "tortured" just one more time... It would be so nice to rewind back to the 70's and have my Dad and Grandparents again.

My Granny on my Daddy’s side hated me so I never got to know her except her verbal and physical abuse I knew that real well. Both My aGrand Daddy’s were HEE-HAW fans, and Maebelle my Grandpappy’s wife preferred Westerns and CBS’ Rural Comedies, Gomer Pyle and such. As a kid, this song playing on TV signalled bedtime. I remember being so disappointed when PBS started playing memorial episodes instead of doing reruns. (I was also REALLY excited when I was allowed to watch NOVA, probably because that was the next show on after Lawrence Welk and it was past my bedtime. lol)
Now it's so nostalgic. And weird that retirees and I are nostalgic about some of the same things. I am such an old maid at heart, lol.

They're simple, but those are some of the best memories I have! My grandmother has since passed and I miss her very much, but I know I will always have that to look back on and how awesome it felt to enjoy watching that with her! It's a shame things like this have phased out of television now... I think kids would really like it!

Adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen 'til then
And though it's always sweet sorrow to part
You know you'll always remain in my heart
Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you
Here's a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true
And now 'til we meet again
    Adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen
    Good Night!

I LOVE THIS show, watch it every Saturday night on public TV. My granddaughters 7 and 5 love it too, when they are at my house.

This brings back good memories, especially of my parents who watched this show every Saturday night. I would tell them that the "Good Night" song was my favorite! :) I guess it had something to do with being a teenager at that time and thinking the show was so uncool. :)

The only thing spoiling these interesting Welk reminders of TV as it was then are the egregiously intrusive, unobstructable ads. If they could only include ads from this era! I would watch contemporary spots for current or defunct products.

Oh. So it's "good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you" and not "good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite", like my Dad always said as he closed my bedroom door back then. :-)

My younger brother and I would be clean from a bath, in our pj's, sharing a big bowl of freshly popped popcorn. Our TV was in black & white. Is a good memory for me. Was for my brother also. We'd mention it often. I miss him, he died in 2019.

There’s another song that has a special feel for me. When I was in my early to mid-twenties I used to sing “When I’m 64” to my girlfriend while driving her home after a date on Saturday night. Fast forward 50 years. In memory, I can still hear her laughter when I sang it to her. And when my father turned 64, I sang it to him. Kind of ironic, isn’t it? But nobody sang it to me when I turned 64. But I did blow out ALL the candles.

Only ONE black performer? Out of the thousands of black musicians and singers in the US racist Lawrence Welk only hired ONE, and I bet the producers forced him to do it.

We changed from beauty to ugliness, love to hate, romance to lust, self-control to self-indulgence. We turned from extroverted, helpful, caring persons to self-absorbed freaks more interested in artificial reality than genuine reality. We became triggered and trigger-happy. Young adults wouldn't know a love song or cheerfulness if it hit their heads with hammers.
