Bobby always made every partner appear to be floating on air. One of the all time greats! (must have been tough on this one for Myron to lead the orchestra and not be playing!)
I used to watch Lawrence Welk with my Dad. I would put on a party dress and dress shoes and dance with my Dad. First, I would dance on top of his shoes when I was little then as I grew up I learned how to dance. We even won some dance contests my dad was a great dancer so was my mom.
My 2 sister and I watched this show on Saturday nights after our baths. Our mom would set our hair in pin curls for Sunday morning church as we watched. I still love watching LW reruns and still enjoy their talents. It was a peaceful, heart-warming show that has left me with appreciating talent and respect. I'm now 68 and I still love seeing and hearing about LW's family cast members.
I worked for a small commuter air line based in Billings, Montana. I worked every Saturday night. We had only 2 TV stations for 3 networks. On Saturday nights we had the choice of the Lawrence Welk Show or Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom.
Because of this song the Polka was legislated by the Pennsylvania Assembly in Harrisburg as the official state dance! "It started in Scranton, it's now Number One!"
I am very pleased. It would be good to know its origin. Polka is derived directly from "Krakowiak". It is the region of Lesser Poland. From Lesser Poland it spread to all of Poland, Moravia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Germany. Later to the whole world. It's like Tango with Polish immigrants and a German bandon on a ship from Rostock, it went to Argentina, but who remembers it? ruclips.net/video/dkt_IebF0bw/видео.html ruclips.net/video/JS0KqXoWDNY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/OvM8ZCl4xmA/видео.html ruclips.net/video/OCh6_liT-04/видео.html 😉
Watched this show on Saturday nights with mom, God rest her sole. She got me interested in this and big band music. Loved it, even thought I was a, "kid." 69 now and feel I was born a generation too late. I did notice though, Lawrence would never have allowed her skirt to fly up like that, mom told me Mr Welk insisted on modesty and made her wear crinolines underneath. Watch earlier videos.
Do you believe that was a time the Polka was Love by Puerto Rican people? Thats right my whole family Love to listen and dance the Polka . Puerto Ricans just Love to Party just like everyone one else. The Polka was really big in Puerto Rico. We even played Polka music and cook great tasting food dance away our life with Polka. Amazing how we enbrace other culture.
Polka is a Polish dance that has been adopted by various nations around the world. Mexicans and Italians surprised me the most. Polka means a Polish girl from conception to death. Polka is just a Polish word.😉
RocknRoll Baby Boomers like me now look like that . Neil Young said “ Remember Perry Como with his cashmere sweater sitting near the fireplace and singing . That is what rocknroll is becoming . It is becoming your parents music
Polkas were adopted into ranchera and norteña lore, too. Songs like "Tierra Blanca" and "Las Perlitas" have their roots in German, Austrian and Swiss polka melodies.😊❤

Myron Floren: There is nothing like a polka to perk up a party!
I remember hearing these polkas at family weddings. My gosh, such a long time ago.

My mom just passed away, she was 101 and then some. She watched this every chance she could to her final ripe age.

"Well it's Groundhog Day ... again ..."
Their drummer really loves those rim shots!
Bobby got a little older but he adjusted and pulled some original moves I haven’t seen him do before
God Old Days

Grew up with this.
A polka without an accordian?!?!?!
I became depressed seeing the audience😂

Was anyone else waiting on a monkey to come out?
That's the old style polka dance, I'd like to see them do the new style but they're probably both dead now.
nice ethnic dance it is but i never liked the polka thing.
