  • Kim Preston (Scruff) lives with her three adult sons with Autism. Jacob and Jackson aren’t verbal, and if the gate is unlocked they’ll escape.
    Kim sleeps in the lounge room of their three-bedroom home to give each of her boys their own space. The slightest change in routine can spiral into a full-on melt down. Kim expects her boys will live at home with her till she ‘cark’s-it’ but what if there’s another way?

    I love how this isn't a jab at how having an autistic child is "torturous". No shows of meltdowns, no yelling, shouting, crying. I'm so over the fact that just the act of not abandoning your child makes you a saint. As someone who is autistic, it's a real strain on your mental health to constantly be bombarded with being shown as a burden.
    We're not a plague, we're not a disease, we're humans wired in a different way.

    • @stevenglansberg4448

      I feel like caring for a disabled adult for the rest of your life would be considered a burden.

    • @LavaLampLady
      @LavaLampLady 2 года назад +1

      But there can be meltdowns, yelling, shouting, and crying. You can’t pretend it doesn’t happen, and you can’t expect people to want to have to deal with this for not only 18 years but all their life. Having to care for someone well into old age. It’s obviously not a plague because it’s not contagious, and it is, by definition, a disease.
      There obviously is a spectrum, looks like you’re on the “highly functioning” side, but some autistic people can’t talk, throw fits and can’t take care of themselves. Babies in huge bodies. Sad but true.

    • @mortechrome
      @mortechrome 2 года назад +6

      It’s called a spectrum because we can be vastly different from one another. That’s an important message to people who have stereotypical views of autism-that we are not only Rainman or Sheldon Cooper. Many-especially women(like me) weren’t diagnosed until adulthood.

So it’s her job to take care and love them all just like any other mother with children without any disability’s do. I think she is a great mum, but she made the decision to birth all her kids so she should take care of them all. I’m Sorry it just pisses me of the mums of this day and age who think they all deserve a medal for being a good mum to there kids. SO SHE'S PREGNANT, TAKES HER VITAMINS EVERYDAY SAME TIME, EATS VERY HEALTHY, DOES A LITTLE EXERCISE, JUST ENOUGH FOR HER PREGNANT BODY TO HANDLE, SHE DID EVERYTHING BY THE BOOKS AND SHE LITERALLY COULDN'T OF DONE NOTHING BETTER. WELL HERE COMES HER DUE DATE, SHE STARTS BLEEDING REALLY BAD AND BY THE GRACE OF GOD 🙏 THEY WERE ABLE TO SAVE THE BABY GIRL. WELL THE BABY CAME OUT HAVING DOWN-SYNDROME, SHE GOT DIAGNOSED WITH BEING AUTISTIC,AND A COUPLE OTHER THINGS. WHAT DO U THINK HAPPENED TO THE DRUG ADDICTS BABY?? WELL I CAN'T SAY NOTHING BECAUSE THE BABY SUFFERED HARDCORE. HIS WITHDRAWALS WERE SOOOOOOOOO BAD IT MADE ME SICK. HIS EYES WOULD ROLL IN THE BACK OF HIS HEAD, AND START HAVING A SEIZURE. HE WAS PUKING EVERY COUPLE MINUTES, HE LITERALLY HAD WATER DIARRHEA FOR 2 MONTHS STRAIGHT. AND TON'S OF OTHER BULLSHIT!!! Poor babies!!! And now the ADDICTID baby is fine, he's SOOOOOO damn smart and so cute. The other little girl will be taken care of for the rest of her life by her mother. Honestly, she is one of the BEST FREAKING MOM A AUTISTIC CHILD COULD ASK HER. I as a autistic child is tearing up because of this woman. She loves all her children infinity no matter what. The fact that she puts her children first and then herself is absolutely stunning. Not only deserves this woman a relaxing day she wishes, but also my deepest respect. I wish more mothers like her are in this world. That would make it for an autistic bearable instead of being pushed away and screamed at when you don’t understand something. I wish her the greatest things in live as well for her sons. ❤️❤️

The most amicable part of her story is just how well she tailors the lives of these boys to keep them safe and happy. I want so badly for her to be able to find some "me time", I hope something comes into her life to lift HER up - not just for her boys.

    Wow! Kim should add to her "path" to write a book. Not just what it is like raising 3 special needs young men, but add her philosophy to everyday blessings, how she has them doing things like the hand in the car until she tells them to open the door, her gratitude when they say "hi mum" or "thank you" etc. I wished I lived near them, I would definitely come hang out with her and the boys. Than once they were all comfortable with me, I would hang out and send her out with the "aunt" at least once a week for a few hours for her recovering, relaxation and enjoyment time. You are amazing and have a lot of wisdom that others just coming to terms with perhaps the same issues could learn from her! Her verbal son could also add his view pint to the book. The other 2 seem quite smart even though they seem to be mostly non-verbal. Just curious, has she ever had them try typing words? I just felt something by watching them that they are quite smart and maybe they could communicate by keyboard?

    I'd have loved a mum like her. I was never given equal opportunities like my sister's. They would differ but of course they would because they had the opportunities. I'm not autistic to the extent where I can't communicate or look people in the eye and I do understand emotion. I was always made to feel like an outcast and was treated like one and that Has put real strain on our relationship. I know they won't change. I just know not to dwell. I have made a great life for my self with out their help. I got myself to uni and now live in a lovely area with my partner. 🙂 .

    My little brother has autism and dyspraxia so when she said about one of her sons getting angry very quick and then taking forever to calm down it's almost as if she's describing my brother bless him. I love how patient she is with her boys and how she praises them for EVERYTHING that they do because something as simple as saying "thank you" for being given your tea can sometimes be difficult like with my brother he expresses his gratitude with hugs so he doesn't feel the need to verbalise it and doesn't necessarily understand that it's seen as rude if he doesn't xxx

    this mom is awesome but she also needs to have me time I know because I too have two autistic sons and two other children, four total. when I get sick there is no one to help me it's me pushing myself even when sick so I know one day I won't be here who will take care of them? so you do need a support system and a plan.

    ‘ I’d like a life’ dunno why that made me cry 😭♥️. God bless, my heart goes out to you. The little count down when you turn the light off was just so cute. Stay strong dear. It’s made me realise how much I need to appreciate my mum xx
