  • After filming an emotional episode in Puerto Rico for season two of She's Gotta Have It, Puerto Rican trio, actors Anthony Ramos, Fat Joe, and writer-producer Lemon Andersen, regrouped in NYC for a meal at Casa Adela where they all celebrated their cultural roots. There, they discussed working with the legendary Rosie Perez, their first-hand experience aiding the island post-Hurricane Maria, and the duality of being 'Nuyorican.'

    Netflix thinks the Caribbean is all ONE country, the intro song is talking about the love for CUBA yet the video is about Puerto Rico. They were like, “yeah just put any salsa song on the intro and everyone will like it “ 😂

      It's about pr not cuba I agree. The fact is that it's about pr it has nothing to do with being humble or not. It's not about the origin of salsa. Btw salsa was adopted by pr and taken to a commercial level world wide just a fact for you. Salsa was known around the world because pr decided to take it out of the Caribbean unlike anyone else had planned.

    Here are 3 Latinos being positive and a bunch of Latinos are putting them down? I've known Lemon for well over 20yrs..He is Puerto Rican and white.. He hung out and lived in a Latino area,most of us are Puerto Rican.. He was always a good honorable dude,and quick with the hands when he was younger.. He still goes to the old neighborhood and shows everyone love..We are all proud of him.. How are all of your Netflix series going,or sold out shows going? Joe said it best,,Latinos hating on Latinos.. You never hear white people saying another white person isn't really white,do you? It's only us Latinos and black people that are like this with one another..

      Well....Fat Joe is completely right... I was one of those puertorricans..... Born and raise in PR... Never lived outside until 3 years ago I moved to NYC.... It's hard to understand that someone loves that Island so much without never being there.... if someone would had told me that the puertorrican parade was the "Calle San Sebastian" of Manhattan without seeing it I would had thought that you're on crack... The difference between a hood boy from any Bronx project and Juana Matos in Cataño are minimal just language and after that I started to left back my problem with nuyorricans. I understanded what unite and glue us together beyond any authenticity claim... just 3years in NYC.... and I it was hard to ignore PR everywhere... Any fucking Rican... puñeta...

      Yea that divide has to stop! Yet I encourage us US based Ricans to really dig deeper to prove to ourselves we are Puerto Rican. Flag waving eating arroz and gandules and pernil isn’t all the culture. Learn to speak the Spanish so when and Islander hits you with that BS you can clearly express they’re wrong. That’s has a large part in why most old school Islanders feel that way. Love the show and the dude Mars always makes me laugh. Fat Joe keep doing your thing bro cause you’ve always represented!

    Loved the episode shot in Puerto Rico and the whole show. Soy boricua y Cubana from the Bronx, estoy muy orgullosa de mi cultura y de mi gente. Gracias por esto. There is limited representation of the scope of our rainbow colored people. We get lumped into Mexican culture with non Caribbean people playing us in film and TV. So this episode of "She's Gotta Have It" was like watching my family, funny, profound rainbow, tropical, beautiful people doin' there thing. Gracias for respecting Ocha tambien. It's reciprocal, Hollywood has always lumped Mexican culture with Cuban, and Puerto Rican culture as well. To them we are all the same. I don't take offense, because I love my brothers from the Caribbean, and we actually share many similarities in our cultures. Mexico had African slaves as well, and their customs are deeply intertwined with the customs of the natives of Mexico. Estamos juntos en la lucha.

    This video reminded me way too much of my ex-boyfriend. Family on both side were from the Bronx and we would spend Christmas & New Years out there. The culture is so strong I still use phrases and slang from them. Miss that Yorican family...not him as much 😄

    Omg I have a friend from the island that says US pr people are annoying because of how much they rep being pr. But I truly believe there is an extra sense of pride people have when they leave their country. And the next generations feel robbed from the opportunity to know and learn their culture first hand. And I think that’s where the pride comes from.

    Also Netflix with all due respect... Salsa was birthed in Cuba ... but if this is based on Puerto Rican Culture , there many countless great Puerto Rican salsa bands that made some amazing salsa some singing specifically of Puerto Rico/ NuYoricans and our culture.... Grand Combo- Fania All Stars- Frankie Ruiz - Hector Lavoe, Marc Anthony just to name a few , would have been better to represent our culture in this episode...

      Papi Champú Cubans and non Cubans, such as Tito Puente, Rubén Blades and many experts of the Cuban music and salsa have always said "Salsa is just another name for Cuban, music. Tito Puentes once said, now they call it Salsa, later they may call it Stir Fry, but to me it will alway be Cuban Music

    • @arturoandarianorellana3815
      @arturoandarianorellana3815 5 лет назад +1

      Papi Champú It was not until the 1950s that Cuban music became popular for Puerto Rican bands. Plena, Bomba and other styles or music were popular at the time in Puerto Rico. Many famous Puerto Rican musicians went to learn the music styles of Cubans in the 1930s and 1940s, and it was not until the arrival of Castro in 1959 and the Cuban music stopped its exportation to the world, that Puerto Ricans in New York were able to be greatly noticed

    Puerto Rico es más que San Juan, más que arroz habichuelas, es más que la santeria la cual la mayoría de las personas en Puerto Rico no acepta. Aún diciendo esto, estuvo chevere el episodio en Puertorro aunque estuvo un poco "clichoso". Igual hay que dársela a Spike Lee porque nos mostró al mundo mucho mejor que el documental de María o la otra porquería del tesoro en Culebra. Me gustó la escena en Loiza Aldea y que mostraron varias organizaciones sin fines de lucro en San Juan que ayudan a la comunidad.
    Ah y al principio de esto hubieran puesto a Cachete Maldonado y los Majaderos o un poco de Macabeo o Los hermanos Ayala pa que enyoyen..
