  • Some male inmates in England and Wales will be freed up to 70 days before the end of their sentence to open up prison space. on licence.
Sex offenders, terrorists, plus prisoners serving four years or more and those who may harm someone outside prison are not eligible.
But some violent offenders, as well as burglars, thieves and fraudsters will be.
Our prisons are currently at 110% capacity, with new figures showing there are more than 87,000 people behid bars.
The government called the early releases a temporary measure and said they 'will always ensure there is enough' room 'to keep dangerous offenders behind bars'. offenders will continue to be supervised under strict conditions such as tagging and curfews

People act like the only way to tackle crime is to make more prisoners instead of trying to make society less likely to encourage crime. Probationary, parole, mental health, social and youth services all need to be improved. Also education needs improvement.
Storm really should have her facts straight if she is going to do a segment on a particular topic. The government’s own records show that sentencing has gone UP and she’s here rebuking the lady telling everyone the truth!

No support, they are given a tent, so if cruella gets her way they will be back in prison. Did Sunak not announce they were building new prisons? Maybe they are in the same place as the 40 new hospitals.

Why does it matter what crime it is if they'd be released in a few months anyway?

Why are prisons overcrowded in the first place? Higher poverty = higher crimes.

This is not about over crowding..it's about deal making if prisoners are compliant with procedures

100% with Emily. Jail is nothing a punishment and satisfaction exercise. The key is focus on rehabilitation. That is how you STOP crime. How are you motivating someone to be a better person by sticking them in some dirty jail cell with bad food and so on? Like Emily said, it just costs the tax payer more money and doesn't lead to a reduction in crime. Also what one of the callers said was outrageous to Emily. NO ONE IS BORN EVIL!

Does she realise the debt people get in for higher education? These are people trying to better their job prospects and they are not criminals
Yet she is saying give them to prisoners and I bet they don't have to pay back any debt for higher education so punish the law-abiding person trying to better their lives
I left school at 15 for the simple fact my parents both worked had 3 kids and didn't have any money and I helped myself and I've worked ever since and don't have a criminal record my brother who is 47 has been on and out of prison most of his life due to drink and the problems he causes
Yet he gets more given to him then most law-abiding people that's wrong
My brother was offered education help
A place to stay and ends up back in prison because he will drink he does not want to help him self and their are services like AA but they choose not to go

Yes, but that's not an argument for not rehabilitating. It's an argument to provide better lives for all people. Punching down doesn't work. Maybe your brother is one of those qjo will never change but that's not everyone
