😢 These days... the motion picture industry rarely releases any G-rated movies, nor ones that tough the heart and encourage the soul within us... to be strong, to be true... and to fill the world with love our whole lives through. ❤
Boy: Do you have any children? Chips: Yes, hundreds of them. All boys. V inspiring tale. Plus beautiful country scenery n the wonderful voice of Petula Clark. Thks for posting this clip frm the classic movie Goodbye Mr Chips.
Fantastic film, I went to a boarding school and had a teacher like "Mr. Chips" Years after I had left I would visit my "Mr. Chips" and take him out for meals, I cry every time I see the ending of this film.
I just love this movie musical. Peter and Petula are at their best. Leslie Bricusse musical scores are incrediblly good. It's is the one of the most underrated movie ever.
Thank you for this. My folks took me to see this film when I was nine years old. It was the first movie that made me cry and I will never forget it. A very beautiful film.
Leslie Bricusse at his best! I saw this film when it was first released and it has been a favorite of mine all these years. Outstanding performances by Peter O'Toole and Petula Clark, with an outstanding script in marvelous settings.
Thanks for posting this because I absolutely love this movie. Many say the original is best, but for me this one is tops. Whatever corny moments it has are far outnumbered by those that are great. Peter O’toole is so superb and brings the Arthur Chipping character to life in such a definitive way with such expression that there’s many moments where I’m either fascinated, inspired or even chocked up to tears. The part where Petula shines and steals the spotlight on the school stage leaving everyone in awe is just so cool. Their unlikely pairing and romance of love found by chance and then lost by tragedy that takes you from elated highs to rock bottom lows is so endearing. I’ve watched this many times since I first discovered it 30 years ago and still enjoy it now and again.
HIs valedictory speech still makes me cry. Actually more now that I'm an older teacher, than when I first saw the movie as I totally understand what Mr Chips was about.
I wonder if this beautiful movie was an influence on J.K. Rowling to create the Harry Potter books? You can certainly hear John Williams 'Mr. Chips' score in the first three Harry Potter films which he also composed the music for. 😉
Now that you mention it, I do hear a bit of "Chips" in the Harry Potter films. I'd be curious to ask Rowlings if she'd drawn from this or perhaps the original 1939 classic with Robert Donat.
I never did until now but watching this video I saw the train and then came the bunch of boys and I just suddenly thought, "Shades of Platform Nine and Three-Quarters" and thought, this is like Hogwarts only longer ago (and of course Hogwarts would have had students back then too). As far as connecting the two schools and the two stories I think it is most likely a better fit for fanfiction than for canon as I don't think this is really what J.K. Rowling was thinking of. The two schools did really start reminding me of each other though. But in England and Scotland they do have *a lot* of old schools that are in mansions or castles, so she did not necessarily have to be thinking of this particular one. I love love the idea of connecting them though. 💕💖❤💓💗 And Chips when he is 90 would be like Dumbledore, if he had a beard like Dumbledore. Of course at Hogwarts the children are not all boys. The teachers do seem to get fond of the children and probably somewhat regard some of them almost as their own, but the "all boys" part would not apply.
With all of my 75 years and 4 months I wish I could see and live this beautiful enchanting movie again. How the World has changed. This was love.
Brings me to tears and I've seen it a dozen times. I'm also a school master at this school.... So I guess I'm biased but it is rather special.
I liked when she said if she had a boy she would want him to go to this sort of school. ^___^
Sherborne School was Bishop David Sheppard's alma mater. I don't know what he thought of using it as Mr Chips' fabled Brookfield School!
It's beautiful and sad, but filled with love ❤️
Wonderful film. I like the Martin Clunes version too.

No other male actor touches me that deeply like the genius Peter o’Tool. Best and most handsome actor I have ever seen

@@enriquezamorano5299 Very true :)
Absolutely no one, in the hsitory of recorded music, had the voice of Petula.
I just love this movie musical.
Peter and Petula are at their best.

Yes! I agree. And guess who assisted with the orchestration and conducting: a very young Johnny Williams. Yes, John Williams 🏆🎶👏♥️
This film deserves more credit...one of the best!
Lovely film! Thanks for sharing.

Petula Clarks CV is second to non in entertainment and yet the powers that be cant see fit to make this legend a Dame .
Peter O Toole - phenomenal always.

What more can I say? It is a beautiful film. Thank you for posting this gorgeous item & for acknowledging this classic.
Just looking at the scattered clouds and mountain separations is scary.😱

First year student: "Do you have any children?"
Dumbledore: "Yes, hundreds. All of them witches and wizards."

Leslie Bricusse was the music composer for Mr.Chips....John Williams did the orchestral arrangement and conducted the score.
Darn onions.....
Hysterical ... 'midst the tears! Thank you.
Foi o melhor filme de Peter O'Toole junto com Lawrence da Arábia.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
