I got 40 Stars and 15 spanners in 11 hours. 132 won races and 42 lost races. I love this game! Sadly after collecting everything the game did not show if did finish the game or if there was something else needed to finish.
Heya, high level speedrunner for the PS2 version. I know i'm 7 months late to this video, but there are a few things i want to note. A: You should give the PS2 version of the game a try. More content was added and a LOT of things were reworked, including a complete overhaul for how the game controls, making it snappier and faster. B: You got VERY unlucky with the cars you chose. The Turbo Terrific has decent base stats, but his items are dog water. The Bullet Proof Bomb is the opposite ordeal. The best two cars in the game early on are the Arkansas Chuggabug due to his versatility and the Compact Pussycat for it's INSANE boost, it's the second best item in the game (outside of Dastardly's Glue Pool). C: The best way to use a boost is ironically by using them around a corner. They give you so much grip that using them on a straight is just a waste. D: I would be impressed by you finding the Slalom Hop on your own at 12:53... had it not been for the fact that the slalom path is the slower one. E: 13:35 Yeah, just casually ignoring the strongest attack in the game. Nice. F: Why the *_HELL_* did you not equip a shield for the 00 challenges? The fact that you pulled them off no shield is truly commendable, but doing it is basically asking for failure even in the best cars. G: There's a cheat code to make it even harder. The code is "CRACKEDNAILS". Make of that what you will.
@13:55 your HP for the battles is determined by the amount of tokens you have. If you get hit without any, then you're knocked out. Which is...fun?...given your attacks also use your HP. When you get low, you have to gain HP back by hoping you don't die ramming another racer or just trade tokens back and forth. Me and my brother used to play this game mostly for the battle arena (using cheats to unlock all the abilities of course: BARGAINBASEMENT in the cheat menu on the center of the overworld). Also good going figuring out the golden Muttley challenges. Those were devious for a kid's game.
Great video! I specifically searched for a video like this, about this game Because I love it so much! I grew up with it & it's my favourite kart racer by a mile. There's a lot of attention to detail, a lot of depth, and extremely well thought out mechanics and progression of the game, with Pat Pending, Red Max & Dick Dastardly being perfect choices for bosses. Each car has its own handling, speed, and pros and cons with their abilities, and different cars should be used for different races and race types. There's a lot of experimenting to be done. It's also quite lengthy, due to having to replay parts over and over again, especially the boss battles (To collect all of the 6 abilities for each car, you have to do all 3 of the boss battles with EACH of the 8 cars, and then 2 more of them with each of the 3 bosses, once you unlock said bosses) This was a fantastic review, the battle royale though was always my favourite part of the game, I found it so much fun. (Your health is determined by your Tokens. You start with 10, and any attack that hits you usually takes 2 off you. If you fire an attack and it hits, then you get those tokens back, the tokens transfer from them to you. So you dont gain anything from attacking someone, as you pay and get refunded the same amount. And if your attack doesnt hit anyone, you dont get the tokens back... so yeah it is generally easier and safer to just hide and not attack anyone, and then only get into the action when theres only 1 car left for you to hunt down BUT thats what the spanners are for! If you want the spanners you must beat the time, so this method wont cut it, hence you need to go all guns blazing and attack everyone) There IS that difficulty spike with the golden muttley challenges! Me and my sister always used to give up playing when we got to this point on any playthrough, but eventually when I got older I beat one. And its exactly like you experienced it, as soon as you finally conquer one, you'll be able to get through the rest! Learn where they all are, plan out your route, get them all on the first 2 laps, then use the 3rd lap to catch up and spam the boost. It's actually noticeable that the other cars are deliberately slower and more clumsy in these races, so its not ever so hard to catch up. And its always easy to collect tokens on the road and spam the boost when youre on your own, away from the pack. The game also has no rubber banding mechanic, they race at the same speed regardless of how far ahead/behind you get. Always liked that. Also all 6 abilities for each car have a really good variety and are well thought out, to pay homage to the tv show. Every car has a boost, but some are better than others. Every car has a hovering ability (some better than others), a shield (ditto, based on time it lasts for), an attack going forward, and an attack you drop behind you, and then also an another attack that may be an additional forward, behind, or something unique. Pat Pending is an exception to all this though as he doesnt like to attack anyone lol.. eg. he has 2 hovering abilities and 2 shields. One of those shields is particularly amusing in the battle royale. The abilities that you unlock for each car via the 3 bosses, are uniquely ordered, meaning some of the cars already have 2 or 3 of the best ones at the start of the game, and the unlockable ones are meh. While some cars have a bad hand at the start but then get game changing ones via the bosses, so some cars suddenly become more usable in the later game that you may initially think are crap. They all start with 3 so it's like a lucky dip which 3 of the 6 abilities each car has at the start. Man I could talk about this game for hours 😂 One thing that sucks though is you finally unlock Dick Dastardly (easily the best) AFTER youve completed practically everything else there is to do... so theres not a lot to do once you actually have him. Theres no clear end of the game, you just have all 40 stars and all 15 spanners, unlock the 3 bosses and then.. thats it. (On the dreamcast version at least, I dont know about the PS2 port) I suppose you can switch the game type to time trial mode and use Dick for that to beat the times easier (as he is the fastest car), but dont bother cos the time trials are BORING and theres no reward 😂 Anyway great video, brilliant game. Wish it got the love it deserves.

You are correct, you do have to collect all the spanners to unlock the final bosses. I have the PS2 port which is easier and a faster game. As a life long fan of the show I had a blast.

I've played both. The ps2 version is harder and more complete.
