Bit of trivia to add: Justin mentioned the green wal in a bass player magazine interview around 2009. The less pronounced mids lead to him using the original one on all of the 10 000 Days recordings, aside from Wings for Marie part 1+2. The green wal worked well played fingerstyle, he mentioned this track was the first he had recorded without pick. The same article he gave a full layout of his pedal/amp setup inc wiring sequences, which you may find useful for the second part of this vid. Couldnt find a link right now, but it must be posted somewhere. Still have the original mag somewhere in my house so hit me up if you want me to scan it for you.

It's amazing to me that here in the 21st century people still think the wood of an electric guitar (or bass in this case) influences its tone in any way.
I agree. I never liked his T Bird tone. It's so dull and boring. He needs a bass with some personality. But then again, he doesn't even play his own parts in the studio so I'm assuming he only barely gives a shit about the bass.
Tool are a peculiar beast and it's interesting to see how other people make music. I too found his gear and sound a wonder. Franky Boy is on the list John. Watch this space!
@John M Wow, I've never seen anyone say that they don't really like Tool. I like them, but to me, it's always refreshing to see people say they don't like Tool.
Hey man I know it wouldn't get the most views but there's a lot of people in the bass community who have tried to figure out Dylan Desmonds tone. He's an incredible bass player and does both bassline/melody by tapping. There's a lot of people would appreciate that video! And it would even open you channel up to new/different viewers considering its a genre you haven't touched on. Theres whole forums of people trying to figure it out lol.
Watching your channel has been interesting but I am confused as to why " Which Bass" does not cover any bass player outside of the metal genre? AS there are soooooo many: ...Pastorious / Clarke / Berlin / Palladino / King / Hellborg / Jackson / Laboriel / Felder / Kaye / Mcartney etc etc ?
Well Gen X, to be honest atm I only do artists I'm familiar with. I don't know if I would do someone like Clarke et all justice. I'm not ruling it out. I just need to do more research than usual.
Love this show! Keep it up! Maybe for more content you could use viewers rigs that seem interesting? I'd also be interested in in seeing Gene Simmons rig over the years. I know he started with Gibson's played some BC Rich and now manufactures his own.
Thank you Jpji, glad you're enjoying yourself. I have some ideas to talk to you guys about your bass rigs so watch this space. You may be seeing bass rigs of your peers soon. Gene Simmons is on the list, I'll see what I can do ;)
It's a bit of a divided issue but some believe all elements of a guitar have some impact on what's being "heard" by the pickup (neck type, strings, bridge, play style). In this case the density of the wood could absorb some vibrations that the pickup may miss. Overall it's believed wood type has less important in tone than pickup choice.
Bodhi Evan .... uh... yeah sooooo why would anyone care what day you are watching this.. we all know the TOOL album was officially released today but still don’t see what that has to do with anything... just sayin Am I missing something? Haha
Nice overview ... bring on the rundown. At first I thought it said "STEAMER" ... ... ... difficult to market ... ... ... PS - only BASS guitar players would think that's a dizzying array of pedals ... ... ... ;)
Steamer and even Streamer are horrible names for a bass XD Aahh I say it's dizzying because bass players shouldn't have to rely on effects pedals as much as guitarists.
i’m a guitarist and justin is EASILY my favorite member of tool. he just stays right up front and makes songs his own. god he’s good.

Thanks Charlie, that's a great suggestion. I'll see what I can do.
You should really do Shavo from System of a Down they have a tour coming up in October
Shav would be really cool, I'll put him on the list.
Ufft, definitely
He ditched the T-bird last year and went for a Warwick Streamer
TheShadowWalker Ik dude. who all is going to see them in Cali In October
I agree. I never liked his T Bird tone. It's so dull and boring. He needs a bass with some personality. But then again, he doesn't even play his own parts in the studio so I'm assuming he only barely gives a shit about the bass.
justin is a chelsea fan? holy moly!
It was this year!
And it was GOOOOOOD...
Why am I just know finding this video!!?!?!??
I know people have said Peter Hook already. I'd like to recommend Benjamin Orr of the Cars, Krist Novoselic, Tom Peterson from Cheap Trick
Great suggestions Devin, all on the list.
Geddy Lee used to play Wal basses, they sounded awesome, as did his Ricks. No idea why he gave them up for the Fender Jazz.
Hopefully I'll found out when I do the Geddy video ;)
Do a Billy Gould (Faith No More) video
Great suggestion dude.
I was never a big fan of tool but that was interesting please make a video about Frank bello (anthrax)
Tool are a peculiar beast and it's interesting to see how other people make music. I too found his gear and sound a wonder. Franky Boy is on the list John. Watch this space!
Agree on Frank Bello!!
@John M
Wow, I've never seen anyone say that they don't really like Tool.
Thanks for the suggestion Corey, I do like a challenge! And you're right I should branch out a bit. Let me see what I can do!
Gene Simmons is on the list, I'll see what I can do ;)
I’m waiting for part 2..
Yeah me too. How about next week?
You wanted it here it is! Part 2! ruclips.net/video/LfC_tG73wT8/видео.html
Which Bass, loved the video, keep it up.
Thanks
Can you explain how the type of wood used in the construction of a guitar can effect the performance of a magnetic pickup?
It's a bit of a divided issue but some believe all elements of a guitar have some impact on what's being "heard" by the pickup (neck type, strings, bridge, play style). In this case the density of the wood could absorb some vibrations that the pickup may miss. Overall it's believed wood type has less important in tone than pickup choice.
@@WhichBass - "No" would have been sufficient.
I believe you've been given an adequate explanation and it wasn't "no".
@@WhichBass - My question was not addressed in any respect.
The best I can do is point you to a resource that could help lmgtfy.com/?q=how+wood+affects+a+bass
I see Justin I click.
5:38 little did he know...
Have you ever been cast as a cockney chimneysweep boy in a Dickens adaptation? That sweet accent mate 😜
Not yet me ol' china. One day I hope. Watch your pockets.
Thanks for the compliment btw ;)
Great video. A Les Claypool episode would be great too
Hail Chief! Thank you I appreciate that. Lucky for you Les Claypool is coming up after Justin part 2.
Which Bass woohoo!
Mr david ellefson? Would love to see this.
Dave will be making an appearance soon, most definitely.
Watching this on 30 August 2019.
Bodhi Evan .... uh... yeah sooooo why would anyone care what day you are watching this.. we all know the TOOL album was officially released today but still don’t see what that has to do with anything... just sayin Am I missing something? Haha
I thought the video said "you know you're a bass player?"
FYI that line up of basses and guitars are actually Danny Carey's personal collection including the Ric's. Not Justin's basses.
Nice overview ... bring on the rundown.
At first I thought it said "STEAMER" ... ... ... difficult to market ... ... ...
PS - only BASS guitar players would think that's a dizzying array of pedals ... ... ... ;)
Steamer and even Streamer are horrible names for a bass XD
Aahh I say it's dizzying because bass players shouldn't have to rely on effects pedals as much as guitarists.
Mike Inez?
Great suggestion thanks Adam.
@@WhichBass Awesome content my man.
Damn I want the tone so bad but a wal is like the price of a new car
Just what exactly is "tumbruh"
lmgtfy.com/?q=timbre
Lol, yes I know what timbre is, it's pronounced "tam-ber". I was just being an asshole
