I know this song is about God, but it does remind me of my significant other, and I think that's okay because even though I'm not a Christian, I love this band and how much they sing about love (not just romantic love) and being okay. They're just a beautiful band, and I respect their beliefs, and I'm glad they use it to inspire their writing because their beliefs have inspired so many beautiful songs.

Music is open to interpretation. I never interpreted this song as about God even when I was a Christian. And now that I’m in my first healthy relationship after being sexually abused as a child and being in three abusive relationships as a teenager/adult, this song is how I feel about my boyfriend, how he soothes the fear and hurt, how he helps heal the pieces of me that others broke.
