This is the pure country music that I grew up with. The new music can't touch the old school stuff. God was a huge part of making it possible for us to savor and enjoy .Real Country can't be beat. God bless all country friends.
I am a Chilean guy who settled down in Fargo n.d. in 1996. I was in my 30’s…and going to different blues grass old time festivals, county fairs in n.d. Montana, Minnesota I learned to dance and sing those awesome songs with my broken English .. yeah baby…
The world was a much better place and time in those days, I remember gathering round my Grandpa's old RCA radio and listening to the Grand Ole Opry every weekend, great memories!!! I'd like to go back to those days but the memories will always be there, God bless.
same here 81, we called it country and western music, them were the great times as Rock and roll was just starting.. sometimes drove ten miles just to get a radio station on the 48 ford.
Set in the old Ryman on Saturday nights watching, listening to these Grand Ole Opry stars. Stationed at Fort Campbell KY, they let us in free after the prime-time shows.
When my wife would visit her Aunt Mary and Uncle Melvin on the farm in the summer months the window that faced a local country dance hall called "Moon Light Gardens" between East Dubuque, Il and Galena, Il. was her second story bedroom. The window would be open with a screen in it. She could lay in bed on Saturday nights and listen to the country bands that were playing just a block or so away. That was in the 50's

Thanks a HUGE million for this telecast of The Grand Ole Opry from 1956 as presented on ABC Television. Wonderful show with Minnie Pearl, Roy Acuff, Little Jimmie Dickens, Marty Robbins, Joanie James, and a young June Carter (Cash), whose comic routine was pretty surprising to me. Not bad for a career singer from a family of country vocalists and musicians. I hope to see more of these classic shows on YT in the future.
i was a year old in 56, but i wished i could back in time, and had my aunt roberta had raised me, she would had been a better mom, did what i had. this is indeed country music, unlike trash today.

Dad used to take us to country shows, Sleepy Hollow Ranch, Sunset Park & don't remember other names, he got music lessons & when he was at the retirement home i would go & play for them & many times said dad thanks for getting me lessons.
I was 8 years old in 1956 on a dairy farm in a 2 room shack listening to this show on an old Arvin radio,first time I heard Marty Robbins. How lucky am I to have been there in the greatest era in country music.
William Carter: I was 11 years old in 56. Glad you were a fan of Marty's. That is my oldest brother, Jim Farmer on the steel guitar. Marty & Jim started their life-long career together, in Phoenix, AZ. I remember a few of their rehearsals on my family's porch. Marty & his family were like family to my family. What a wonderful blessing it was to have known Marty, his lovely wife and their two wonderful children. A blessing I will always be proud of.

I was 6 years old and remember this, when people were really country and played country music. Marty took them to another level and they had enough sense to know it and love it. The first song I remember was White Sport Coat By Marty.

I used to listen to the Grand Ole Opry on the wireless in England by tuning in to the American Forces Network from Germany. It often faded and required much patience. That was 60 years ago - amazing that some of these programmes were recorded and can be viewed all these years later. What amazing memories these bring back -more please! Thank you for uploading.
Loved this show and Town Hall too back in the 50s. Great fun and good music. Marty Robbins had just started to emerge then. And I notice another refreshing fact. The performers and dancers didn't have any problem figuring out their sexual identity.
We were married in 1956 65 years and we're still together and in all those years we continue to listen to country music and love country music today is not the same we were fortunate to make several trips to the old Ryman Auditorium it was wonderful to be there we've lost a lot of country music legends but through the but but I am thankful that we still have their music and I just love country music

WSM-Clear Channel 50,000 watts. One of the three most powerful Radio signals allowed in the entire country by the Federal Government, for many years. On most nights this station could reach to Calif, Mich, & Florida, NY! Glad June got over the comic singing & went more serious.

Purina Dog/Cat/Chicken/Goat etc Chow. There's a house in my neighborhood that--ever since I was a kid--has had a garage door that is painted with orange/red and white squares. When I was a kid, we didn't live in this neighborhood but we'd visit family that did. Every time I passed that house I'd think of Purina Dog Chow because the garage door reminded me of that logo I'm now 52, and I live in that same neighborhood and I think that house is still there with the same color scheme.

For all of the success the Opry had on radio, the format did not translate to TV. While the Opry was produced by WSM, an NBC affiliate, the TV version was aired on ABC which also aired "Ozark Jubilee." The Jubilee had much more success on TV than the Opry telecasts. Had cameras shot an actual Ryman Auditorium Opry Saturday night show, there may have been more viewer interest. WSM produced other TV shows featuring C&W acts from the Opry. These shows such as the "Pet Milk" show ran usually 30 minutes and would feature one or two acts. The shorter format seemed to work better. During the 1950's other shows featuring Country music also were broadcast from California. They included "Hometown Jamboree", "The Spade Cooley Show", and "Town Hall Party" broadcasting three hours on Saturday nights from Compton, California. "THP" also had a filmed version , ''Ranch Party" produced for syndication by Columbia Pictures. Many complete Ozark Jubilee episodes survive and are posted elsewhere on YT along with clips of "THP", "Ranch Party" and "Hometown Jamboree". There are also episodes of two iterations of "The Jimmy Dean Show", a c.1954 filmed verson of " Town and Country Time",Deans first TV show from WDC. Clips of other WSM shows can be found along with clips of "The Porter Wagoner Show" . And, of course, " Hee Haw " , the C&W based version of "Laugh In".
In the 1955-'56 season, ABC presented a TV version of the "OPRY" once a month, on Saturdays at 8pm(et), for Ralston-Purina. It was a separate broadcast from the radio show on WSM {a nationally broadcast half-hour, for R.J. Reynolds' Prince Albert tobacco, was heard over NBC at 9:30pm(et)}. This edition was originally telecast on March 3, 1956.

I am doing the same trip with Ernest Tubb and Bob Wills and Grandpa Jones ,everybody thinks I look like a Skateboarding/Punk Rocker/Biker ,type dude ,I just happen to listen to all kinds of music, Cab Calloway and Carmen Miranda are on my walkman chingadera with Slayer ,Sepultura and Gwar as well as Public Enemy ,James Brown and Antonio Aguilar {las polkas} .People really trip when Frankie Yankovic comes on and I know the woids to Who Stole the Keeshka? or Pennsylvania Polka . I am so special and unique, haha yeah right, just like everybody else.

The early country music duo Tom Darby and Jimmie Tarlton performed and recorded The traditional country song "Columbus Stockade Blues" in 1927.
