@Emily Hall, I am so glad u brought up the word 'class' that imposes the dignity we all should aspire to have. I miss that. I see so little of it in media, art or music. I am sick of trash. There is a clear line between sexy and trashy. I am steeped in the blues for some unknown reason and find it all over in these older forms of CM. Thx for ur comment, sweet lady. I say lil things like this to youngrr women a lot, and always gets a reaction. Thx gor bringing this up. Oddly, my only daughter never understood a thing, is 34, and has a mess of a life. I miss the days prior to the year 2000. I am 66 and banished to the house and couch due to illness. Much love to any and all of u in this boat. What about the running around with other people's wives and husbands, and the chronic substance addiction, that so often went with it? Not wishing to introduce an unfriendly note, but appearance was once thing, reality too often another. We can all agree about the music-making, though -- these people were made of music.

@@andrewdressler6173 I wasn't lying. If you go on Amazon and look for the book "Images of America: Cincinnati Television," you will see my mother listed as Ramona Burnette (née Watkins; Burnette was her first husband's last name) on pages 56 and 109. My father, "Bud Chase" (actual name Arthur Erwin Churvis) is on pages 77, 83, 109, and 116. I wish it had some pictures from my mother's show; it had some from my father's shows. I talked with the author, Jim Friedman, about ten years ago and we had a great talk. He didn't know that Bud and Ramona had married after WCPO, so we had a lot to talk about.

Mother Maybelle and June are my pilots!
If you play guitar and have not learned to play "The Wildwood Flower", you have at least one more pleasurable task in life! It's not a difficult piece of picking.
Alas, the lyrics always escape, but it is one song that MUST be sung by a woman. I tried to rewrite the lyric for a male but failed miserably.
After many years, I found a woman who could and would sing it on stage, while I played the guitar. It was wonderful. I was smiling like a fool through the entire song. I always wanted to play The Wildwood Flower for a live audience. When I finally did this, I felt I could die happy.
    God Bless The Carter Family!

I’m learning it right now, not difficult at all, but so fun to play. It is a little tricky, I wish I would’ve learned it as a beginner. I have the first part of the song down. I had to put my daughter to bed so I’ll practice the rest later. I agree, it only makes sense if a woman sings it, Johnny Cash did his version, with Maybelle of course, which was changed for a man, but it’s a totally different melody only until the wildwood flower line. So it’s not really like being able to sing the song as a man. I want to teach my daughter how to play this song, she’s only 3 right now.
      Love the story!

I have been working on a book that answers the question "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone" for over 4 years which focus's on mainly Helen, June and Anita Carter along with their mom's band - "The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle" They had a great career and life's story. My book follows the Carters through 7 radio stations. They were such a unique and most talented all-female family band that rose to be a household name that filled every venue they played. The first band to really tour almost all of America from Maine to San Antonio by the early 50's. Heck they were the only band and females that Elvis Presley opened for and was billed lower than on the Opry tour for over a year. They helped all these great artists in different ways along the way, Chet Atkins, Hank Williams Sr, Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash and even Waylon Jennings later.

I just finished the book. Hadn't even sought it out but found it among things people had donated to my band Jam Pak. Due to the isolation of corona I've had more time to read. Absolutely the most wonderful story by Mark Zwonitzer and Charles Hirshberg and a sequel would be great. Really I am so amazed at all the details of their lives, musical and everyday.

My father was born in 1924, there was something special about this generation of people and how they lived their lives. my father told me that most people back then were poor as dirt and didn't have luxuries like cars, most of them were small farmers and when they were not working which was not very often they entertained each other with music, it's one of the only things they had to do. My dad played the fiddle and did it well. They were hard working honest people, they fought in world war two and Korea MD sacrificed so much for this country. people like this is what we need in this country right now.

The way that she starts cracking up as everyone else is laughing at her is incredibly sweet. She seemed like a very genuine person.

Maybelle played banjo when she was 8 years old before she played guitar and she just adapted her banjo playing to create the "Carter Scratch" on guitar. What happened to America. My take on this documentary is we cannot go forward without entertaining the fact we must bring the past forward along with us. We are spiritual beings in the physical so the past , present and future is all one thing. There is only one way left for the circle to be unbroken and that is putting God first before everything. The suffering of humanity down through the course of history gives us this great moment to experience perfect Love. As Jesus amicably portrayed "The Kingdom of heaven is at hand".
