    I drove this car as a rental for about 4 months and fell in love with the simplicity of it. Now you can find a lot of these under $10k with less than 40k miles. If you're searching for a daily, this is it.

      where can you find these under $10,000 with less than 40,000 miles? I see you did post the comment 3 years ago, so maybe with cars making their way out now?

    If anyone in here has a newer Chevy with Start/Stop, place the shifter in manual mode and use the buttons to place it in it's highest gear. That would be sixth with this car. The trans will shift normally and keep the start/stop feature turned off. You're welcome.

  • @crodley
    @crodley 8 лет назад +16

    at 4:14 you mention a "Nice little slot" for keys or whatever, but no...it's slot for charging a wireless phone (like a Samsung Galaxy s6 which I have) It's a rubberized pocket and your phone just slides in and starts charging, very nice.

    Nice looking car, seems like Chevy is following the lead of the Ford Mondeo/Fusion and Chrysler 200 in finally making the Malibu look sleek. I like having the C pillar glass behind the back door. I know it's a minor styling nitpick, but I like that about my 4th gen Subaru Legacy as well, which has the C Pillar glass with a properly done Hofmeister kink. I hate that Subaru cheated on the 6th gen Legacy with a plastic filler piece behind the straight edge window cutoff on the back door.

    My ideal midsize sedan would have a 3 power train options which are 2.5L NA I4 with 205 hp and 200 ft-lbs, a 3.4L V6 with 295 hp and 310 ft-lbs, and a hybrid with a 150 hp 1.8L NA I4 and an electric motor for 220 combined hp. All options would have double cam phasers for both exhaust and intake to allow an adjustment range of 80 degrees for both the intake cam(s) and exhaust cam(s) and Variable valve lift similar to VTEC and does both exhaust and intake. Also 2 transmission options for the 2 gas only power plants a 9 speed automatic and a 9 speed DCT. The hybrid would get a Prius inspired power split device.

    • @evanganske9240
      @evanganske9240 8 лет назад +1

      They also have a 1.6T I4 with about 205HP and 221LB-FT. That engine would be amazing in a Cruze RS. A Malibu RS should get the 275HP and 295LB-FT version of the 2.0T I4.

    • @lukehoisington4236
      @lukehoisington4236 8 лет назад +2

      Yes. This is too little power for the mailbu. At least like 175hp for this base engine

    • @evanganske9240
      @evanganske9240 8 лет назад

      +Luke Hoisington They could easily tune this 1.5T. The 1.4T in the Cruze makes 153HP. 1.5T and only 7 more HP? That's absurd. Once Chevrolet puts the 8-Speed in the base model and the 9-Speed in the 2.0T models, I'm sure a more potent 1.5T with somewhere around 175HP / 195LB-FT will be created.

    • @lukehoisington4236
      @lukehoisington4236 8 лет назад

      +Evan Ganske that is ridiculous that this is only 7 more HP than a cruze.

  • @Tracon9er
    @Tracon9er 5 лет назад

    I'm having the same issue in my 2016 Malibu. I have to pull over and turn the car off, wait 3 to 5mins. then turn it back on and it drives normal. Mostly it happens on the highway and it's so random. This happened of course after my warranty ended. I cleaned out the throttle body, that didn't help. I been reading online that it could be the accelerator pedal. I may buy one and see if that will help.

  • @vikk5459

    I wish you would have gotten one with the cloth interior and the non-leather wrapped steering wheel. As you probably noticed, everything is rock hard plastic and in the cloth models there is a cheap scratchy cloth material on the parts where there is leather stitching. They did a good job on the restyle, but they STILL don't know how to do good interiors. When I test drove one of these I heard rattles from the door panels and dash with 41 miles on it.

    I was excited that Chevy may have something that could compete until I saw one in person. The car is narrower than its competition and in lesser models the interior seems rental grade. Also they will have to incentivize to get pricing competitive with competition.

    I found one of these online, 4 hours away and i'm interested in it which led me to this video. I find online a lot of people think the 1.5L non-turbo is too underpowered. Has anyone got any first hand experience and can clarify this? I'm not one whose going to take it to the race track, but if i'm going from 20 mph down a highway on-ramp to 65 mph merging onto the highway i don't wan't to get run over so to speak. With it being 4 hours away (and my current vechile getting 12 mpg) a test drive isn't the cheapest thing to maneuver. Thank you!
    EDIT: I'm confused, trying to understand Malibus :( Are all 1.5L Malibus turbocharged? I found two online, one says it is Turbo, the other just says "Gas 1.5L". Malibus are so tricky because of the packages. You got the leather package, Driver Confidence Package, Convenience & Technology Package, LZ 1, LZ2, LTZ 1, LTZ 2. It's so hard to know what's what :(

    I bout this car for my wife.
    33k so far so good. Turbo makes me nervous bc expensive to fix or replace. The older GM vehicles fell apart after 125k hope the new one's hold up better. I'm borrowing a 04 4 runner from my parents 202k ,great running vehicle still. Love Toyota for reliability. Just think Chevys look better. I have to give it back to my parents In July lol they're trading it on for a newer one. I'm going to buy a crew cab z71 Silverado. Then getting a used 4 runner once those are paid off. Then I'll be set . Lol no more car payments after that . Just maintain those and pay cash if needed for new vehicle. This has been a great car so far. Just see how it does after 125k...cmon GM..these better last

    Before you get a car from a dealer learn about before you talk about it. Before I bought mine I did my home work and knew about everything so that the dealership couldn’t blind side me with a lot stuff I didn’t want or needed. I love this car . I have the LT with leather and it’s a very comfortable ride. So before you make a video learn about it and know what that little slot behind the shifter is. It’s a wireless charger if your model comes with it. 🥴

    I'm probably in the minority, but I still fail to see how all these LCD touch screens in modern cars have an advantage over physical buttons and knobs. In my 2007 Jeep, I can operate anything I need to operate simply from touch (or voice), without having to take my eyes off of the road. With a touch screen there is no point of reference and you have to look at the screen to operate it. Unless I am missing something, I don't understand the benefit. Also, in my experience with rental cars with LCD screens they are always low resolution/pixelated and have crappy contrast which automatically makes the interior feel outdated when I'm used to looking at high quality displays at home/work. Oh well, there's no use complaining because manufacturers seem dead set in putting them in every car these days. At least this car has mechanical gauges still, which I think looks so much classier and timeless than a digital display.

      Depends on the car, the new audi's and some of the newer caddy's have nice lcd instrument cluster.

      That’s what I think too. It’s almost like texting and driving if you’re constantly looking at the screen. I almost never use the touch screen

    I drove the LT2 with 2.0. It felt like the engine was working more to get the car going vs. my Camry with the 3.5 V6. I would strongly prefer some non-turbocharged engines as an option.

    So I heard a Buick engineer say the stop-start cannot be defeated on the new Lacrosse. Guess the same applies to this car.

      That is 100%. There is no off button. I own a '16 Malibu myself. Its odd initially but I've gotten over it after a few days.

      The start stop can be disabled by putting it in L then pressing up until the gauge cluster says 6. (assuming you want the transmission to shift through all the gears)

    I'm headed to buy this car used tomorrow morning. What do you think the reliability might be on a small turbo engine over tiem? That really is my only concern?

    • @BaldCreations
      @BaldCreations 7 лет назад

      Rick Destroyer engine size doesn't play on reliability. Reliability is design quality. This engine will have no strain pulling the car

      Rick Destroyer I'm not being biased but you made an excellent decision. I own one also (2016 Jetta) and it is very fun and nice to own. Chevy owner satisfaction declines quickly

    I drove the previous version with start/stop feature for a week as a rental. It cannot be turned off and I only got around 23mpg overall anyway. I would never go near a car with that annoying stop/start crap that can't be turned off. it's pretty annoying. This car would be crossed off my list immediately due to that "feature" alone.

      I love it. In the 2.0 liter turbo it takes off like the engine was never off and keeps its gas mileage. I think the 1.5 liters lag is due to it not having as much hp.

    Seriously, Why would the put a glossy screen----tilted upwards-----without a hood type thing covering the top of it ! there is soo many reflections.

      I looked at a 3 hatchback before I bought my GTI. Mazda probably wins on reliability, the GTI has a much much nicer interior, and drives a whole lot sportier. You you are paying for the higher level mazda 3 I would go for the GTI instead.

      The new 1.4L Turbo from the new '16 Cruze is not that far away from '16 Malibu with the base 1.5L Turbo. The existing 2.0L Turbo is where its at. Which is also in the new Camaro, ATS, Malibu, and Regal.

      If chevy sharpened up the rear and side profile and threw in an LS3 with a manual, they'd have a great sports sedan.

    Honda Accord, Camry V6, and even the Sonata 1.6T and 2.0T are faster and a better option that can be had for 30 grand and under. No way I could get this over those.

    • @iDrive4fun93
      @iDrive4fun93 8 лет назад +2

      the Sonata Eco 1.6t is a phenomenal car. I have driven every model of the last 3 generations of the Sonata, and I own a 2008 Sonata with the 3.3 V6. The Eco has excellent get up and go, gets excellent fuel mileage, the 7 speed DCT is way better than the 6 speed in the Veloster or Fords DCT. My ONLY complaint is that it doesn't come with a sunroof.

    • @jacobchapman9525

      Malibu is offered with a 2.0T which would better compete with the larger turbo and V6 options you mentioned.
