I once cleared out the oven, left kitchen for a bit, and turned on the oven when I got back. While I was prepping ingredients, I started to notice a weird smell. I figured it must've been because the oven hadn't been turned on for a while, so I ignored it. When it came time to open the oven to put in the food, I realized it was because someone had put a pan with the lid back in the oven. The melting of the plastic handle on the lid and pan were causing the weird smell. In a Hispanic household you ALWAYS have to check the oven before turning it on. Lesson learned...
