Holy resurection batman :-) Adjusting the hour is simple if you remember what to do (push the recessed button then turn the crown to move the time in 1 hour increments forward or back). Problem is if you try to adjust it like every other watch, by pulling out the crown, you're likely to mess up the date and/or time. This is one of my favorite movements due to the perpetual calendar, power save features and independently adjustable hour.
Nick, excellent review. I wonder if Citizen has seen this, because their latest perpetual calendar movement seems to have addressed your user interface complaint. The BX1000 and BX1010 share the same new movement. They're not Citizen Signature watches, but I think they're nice. To jump an hour (switching time zones), you pull the crown out one position and just turn, it's that simple. To enable/disable DST/SMT, you press that small hidden button, and rotate the crown. I'm okay with doing that 2x a year. Pull the crown out to the 2nd position and you set the time like on any other watch. The stuff that you never need to do, like adjust the date, or do a hands alignment, is hidden deep, I can't see doing that by mistake.
Thanks for articulating my love-hate relationship with Citizen. I have a Citizen which I like very much and wear every day (I'm not getting into watches.) It's my second Citizen, the first of which was ruined by a fly by night mall jeweler. I have had other watches and I currently have other watches which I rarely wear. I like my Citizen because it is well made, and with my current Eco Drive, atomic clock set version, I never have to think about it. Good thing too, because if I ever have to reset it, it's usually an exercise in anxiety control.
I have the earlier version with the screws in the bezel (used~230€).I like this watch a lot, despite it`s UI and lack of micro adjustments. It`s a great looking watch and really low maintenance, but setting it up for the first time is pretty annoying. some corrections: case size 42mm, lug width 23mm; I disagree about the legibility. I can see the indices in almost all lighting conditions. It`s cool to see how Nick`s reviews have become even more in depth compared to the old one for the dive watch BL1258 which has the same bracelet& movement.
It very closely resembles some sort of a ROYAL tree..... like the ones grown in Le brassus. Or maybe, like genevan tree whose name is in a famous Jules Verne novel. Both are OVERSEAS.
Have you considered doing quick-reviews on after-market watch bands? I recently got rid of the green on my bm8180, and my love for that watch has gone up tremendously.
Love ya buddy, shows great. Don’t doubt that the flaws are valid. Question: did you compare a citizen to some omegas and a breitling aerospace? Just curious, asking for a friend.
Another great review, thanks, Nick! One thing is driving me nuts, though: when the seconds hand is exactly at any of the minute markers, the seconds hand is not at noon. That would drive me nuts! Is it adjustable, re-settable, do you know? Thanks again!
This is way more than I would ever spent on a watch. Frankly it's way more than I would ever spent on a knife either. But listening to someone who is passionate talk about something they love is always way more interesting than listening to someone drone on, no matter how relevant the subject is to me. Tl:dr keep up the good work Nick!
I'd love to see your take on the Citizen Promaster land watch - Titanium, adjustable "glide" clasp, radio control etc. Thing has been on my Amazon wishlist for over a year but hard to spend $500 on a quartz (my prejudice). I like your Citizen Courageous diver much better, so much so I bought one (at much lower than retail of course). Thanks for another excellent rigorous review.
I don't think it's fair to compare the bracelet and clasp on the Citizen to those on Rolex and Omega watches, which cost 5-10x as much...I mean, let's keep it real here.
As much as I love the citizens. The UI on them is ridiculous, I have the Chrono AT which (is more sporty but shows the Power reserve, etc) is a pain just to do a chronograph feature. Got my wife the World Time (bad idea) she just pushed a bunch of buttons when the power died and took me an hour to reset and had to charge for a whole day before I could even set it! If you could just pull crown, adjust, and done... it would have make it so freaking easy and for all.
Nice review and totally agree with your views on the terrible UI of some Citizen watches. I felt the same frustration on my Promaster H145 movement and sold it after all, while my F150 GPS satellite wave movement has much better and quicker UI and I love it. I noticed the minute hand of your watch ticks every 15 seconds but at a bit weird timings, i.e. 03, 18, 33 and 48 seconds. You may also need to check the reference position in accordance with the setting manual, which would be a mess again. Good luck and thanks for the informative review as always.
great review (saved me money)... this one might have to go back to factory. i have lots of eco-drives and love them-especially my blue angel which i got with the beautiful leather strap--beautiful but too stiff. replaced with blue and yellow nato to get a good feel.
Nick Shabazz I totally agree, the interface seems very bad. And the hour adjustment feature should be the most simple. I don't travel much, so I don't think about it. Probably good I don't review watches, I just professionally enjoy people that do 👍.
I think the Half Life is more like 12 years, although that might mean that after say 25 years it's very much diminished and here's a link.. :) Link Tritium :- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tritium
Nick , could you possibly mention the weight in grams in your reviews ? I mean if you are weighing it anyway . That's my only criticism really , other than that keep making entertaining reviews I like your style
My wife gave this to me for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and we purchased it while on a Cruise. I think the price we paid was overpriced even if it was duty-free and as referenced above its a P.O.S. when it comes to simple tasks like resetting the date and time. I would not recommend this watch to anyone, it was my first Citizens Watch and it may very well be my last.
C'mon Nick it's 2018 get yourself a "smart" watch. I wear a Pebble 2 smart watch . Pebble was bought by Fitbit. I also have a Casio Waveceptor Tough Solar

Great review. Did you sell your Casio Oceanus again?
Frank Salem Nope!
11:38 The second hand stops after a second in the dark, and jumps to the right time when it gets light again
It very closely resembles some sort of a ROYAL tree..... like the ones grown in Le brassus. Or maybe, like genevan tree whose name is in a famous Jules Verne novel. Both are OVERSEAS.
Hey nick , I'm not sure how this works but could you get a squale 50 atmos and review it. Please
Have you considered doing quick-reviews on after-market watch bands? I recently got rid of the green on my bm8180, and my love for that watch has gone up tremendously.
Same here. Got a bond black/Grey Nato for the BM8180, and I am quite pleased with it. Doesn't look too classy, but it does look good!
Love ya buddy, shows great. Don’t doubt that the flaws are valid. Question: did you compare a citizen to some omegas and a breitling aerospace? Just curious, asking for a friend.

That last Ugly was a thing of beauty..

I like your Oceanus better and it looks more pleasing to the aye. Have a nice one.
I owned this watch for 6 months, couldn’t connect with it...great review Nick!
That’s nicer than the omega

Great review! So complete
please review the latest basel world omega seamaster diver
Will work on that!

Excuse me, what does UI mean?
User Interface :)
You leave me laughing literally outloud and that is as you say a beautiful thing.Cheers!

Love the numbers on the bezel
It seems like all these Citizen Signature watches the second hands hit every indices. That is a feature I can get behind.
Water resist?
I could hardly resist chucking it into the water.
I wonder if dst just isn't a thing for most of thier customers.
But travel likely is!
Nick Shabazz I totally agree, the interface seems very bad.

I don't travel much, so I don't think about it.
Probably good I don't review watches, I just professionally enjoy people that do 👍.
Keep saying outside...eco drive charges from indoor natural light and lamps too not just the sun...
Personally, I've found the best Lum for my personal needs, working into the night is Tritium... !!

This should be in nick shabazz's rants
"the beautifulness...". Classic Nick.
Great. Now disassemble it ;)
It'd be easier than adjusting the freakin' hours!
@@NickShabazz Yeah that's true alright :D never thought I would see a bad Citizen!
Nick , could you possibly mention the weight in grams in your reviews ? I mean if you are weighing it anyway . That's my only criticism really , other than that keep making entertaining reviews I like your style
Alas, that's convertible by the minority of viewers who prefer it. My videos are long enough.
No problem Nick , thanks for the reply

Nice and tempting until you hit the ugly. Oy vey!
Wow this video was in the works for awhile, 4 months ago...
ROFLMAO!! None of my knives can do this stuff
That's a lot of ugly for a $300 watch used....
The Planet Ocean sweeps beautifully... I stoped watching soon after. Quartz is not my thing...
