    I fell in love with Newfies when I was a boy. My father who was an English professor brought me to one of his student's dog events. We arrived at a park filled with Newfies and many puppies. It was a sight I've never forgotten. I'm an old man now and love the Newfie as much as ever. I once wrote a short story in tribute to Newfies titled, "Kissed By A Newfoundland".

    have an Alaskan Malamute male pup (Leo) he's 8 months old approx 65 lbs...Usually, when he meets other dogs he's pretty confident..stands tall..calm..& then starts playing...same with every breed.. whether it's a Maltese or an Airdele Terrier, Akita, Rottweiler, German Shephards, Pitbull...Until an off-leash black Newfoundland showed up 🤣....maybe a senior, he had the old, wise monk aura around him..as he started walking towards my pup, Leo went in a submissive, down-stay position..I have never seen him do that! Lol!
    It's like how elephants get respect from every other animal in the jungle.🤣..Beautiful breed, absolutely amazing!

    I had a Newfoundland Dog and they know when their owner needs defending because they have superior intelligence. My Dog defended me against an intruder in lighting speed. The intruder never came back!!! She was not even 2 years old at the time, she was probably 80lbs at the time. She was angel!!!

    Totally agree with and understand your emotional reaction to your newfies. We’ve had 5 of them over the last 30 years and can’t imagine life without one- we’re bringing home number 6 in a few weeks. Laughed out loud when you talked about fur in the fridge. In our house we refer to drool and fur as condiments!

    We owed thru many years seven (7) wonderful Newfoundland dogs while lived in the mountains where they could run free as well as being walked without leashes and the dogs were very loving and loyal to us and our land. We really enjoyed that breed so much. They absolutely need exercise, running, etc. as it will prolong their lives as we have them live to 12 and 13 years old still be active. Newfies forever!!😃🤠☝👍

    I have a Landseer, my first Newfy after four Great Pyrenees. I would have gotten one sooner, but I wanted to adopt. Whenever I was in the market, there were never any available. Sadly, there were always plenty of GPs available (they are a lot of dog under all that beauty, and not for everyone.) So, as I'm getting older, I finally bit the bullet and bought a puppy. They are tough puppies, but they do grow up. He's tall for a Newfy (31") and 150 pounds. Good size boy, though I know there are some real monsters out there. That said, he's tremendous around the house, with guests, and other pets.

    I love my Newf. He's such a sweet dog and everyone loves him. I'll take him around town and show him off all the time. Mostly to socialize him every day but also to bring awareness to the breed. People love seeing a sweet 150lbs hairball with his tongue hanging a mile off to the side.
    He gets hugs from kids and if they're (unlucky?/lucky?) they'll get a face full of kisses.

    Our family bred show dogs for many years and one day my brother and I made thick beards with some glue and fur we had laying around. The doorbell rang after only a minute of admiring our beards in the mirror. We answered the door and found that some potential buyers had come by unexpectedly and with our parents gone at the time, we stepped outside to answer their questions as best we could. No one mentioned our beards while fluffs of dog hair floated off occasionally in the breeze, and I don't know if they ever came back.

    Do you think you could do a video on what large breeds ARE good for those without large breed experience? Every breeder you feature seems to say the same thing- that their breed is not for those without large breed experience. So IS there a dog that can act as a transition breed? I thought this would be a Newfie or st Bernard- but I guess not.

    • @noreenebabb8266
      @noreenebabb8266 3 года назад +1

      They probably want you to adopt a well trained big dog from a shelter first, instead of getting a puppy only to find out that you can't deal with a large 150lb dog a year down the line

    • @ItsAMadHouse360
      @ItsAMadHouse360 2 года назад +2

      @@noreenebabb8266 The only thing that worries me about a large shelter dog, is that all that lack of training is probably why they are in the shelter in the first place, very hard to change a grown large dogs bad behaviour. Another option is to start with a small dog, or medium large like a lab.

    We are Newfoundland lovers for quite some years now, also breading with them. But i'm not agreeing on everything she says, putting them in a bench, hmm, if you leave them for longer then a day ? Well we are never leaving them for over a day, normal working hours sure but more then that ? But that is a personal feeling, we think that Newfies are just to big to put in whatever bench you buy. I must say that we live in the Netherlands, we have 3 Newfies and they all live in our house, also we have a big owned property around the house for them to play but they always sleep inside. Also i heard her say that a Landseer is a official Newfie breed , well not in The Netherlands. Landseer is a breed of their own, they are "related" to the Mastif family but that is all. Not sure how that works in the USA of course. For the rest, yeah they are like our children, we always go on holidays where they can come, we even bought a car especially for the three of them so we always can bring them along.

    • @thomaslawlor4200
      @thomaslawlor4200 Год назад +1

      Greetings from Newfoundland.
      While I am aware that some Clubs do consider The Landseer a separate breed I don't. The colour is the result of a recessive gene that sometimes appears when a female is bred. The AKC considers Landseer's as simply a Newfoundland with a white coat and black spots. Not a black dog with white markings. To my mind they are just as beautiful as a full black example. Really miss our wonderful male after many years.

    My neighbor said her dog was a mountain Pyrenees well guess watt she’s not a mountain Pyrenees she is a a Newfoundland lance black and white. She is moving and could not take the dog with her which she let run loose in the neighborhood so animal control was down here a lot. I got to know the dog and I’d took her. She is sweet as pie and she needs to be groomed because there are mats on her. I’m going to take her in a month or so when the weather clears up, but she wants me to stay outside with her all the time and rub her she is a sweetheart so that being said there’s one other thing she wants to go lay out in the rain because it’s been raining here a lot where I live and my daughter lives next door, which we have a gate that connects Our property so open the gate and she has an acre and a half to run on that there are some light spots where water wants to stand and she loves getting in it. I don’t know how to keep her on my huge covered back porch when it rains we did buy her a doghouse, but she will not get in it at all, we are letting her decide for herself from what I understand. She has been abused when she was a puppy. She now is going on three years old. I just love her and I wanna do the best for her, so does anyone have a suggestion how to keep her from and stomping in the mud paddles help?
