It says right in the description that he did it in the stye of Gichin Funakoshi. Meaning this is an older version of the Kata, presumably one where the differences with the older Okinawan styles were fewer. Hence the higher positions and "mistakes".
Karate begins and ends with respect. Seems you forgot that too.

Even in the kekomi where he brings his fists up to his chest? That's a waste of energy. The fists should come up to the belt.

A mi me parece que este Kata esta bien efectuado el Sensei que interpreta , acciona este Katá lo hace con total voluntad , y tratando en todo momento de hacer denotar con detalles cada golpe , no es que casi se cae , ni que no tenga los movimientos necesarios , poco importa eso, lo que interesa es como transmite aqui el grito Kiai lo dice mucho , ...para mi lo ha efectuado bien !
Tal vez lo haga lentamente con la finalidad de que se denoten detalladamente bien los movimientos del Kata

Shotokan is long in stance. That back stance is terrible! No hip adjustment on the blocks in the first segment.Hand position at the yoko geri is wrong,yama tsuki is way off. This is mcdojo karate not jka. Bassai dai means stroming the fortress,it is a strong kata and one you would have to take for shodan. For this effort i wouldnt award a 2nd kyu. My only positive is the format in which the video is presented. Good clear angles,proper slow motion and clear recording.

You are speaking about standard shotokan (the current one), it seems he is doing the original Funakoshi style was not with so low stances as right now, bevertheless I think this can be improved but we have to understand that this is a little different kind of shotokan.

This video series demonstrating various KATA are very well done. Performed in slow motion, it enables the learner to see the techniques being executed clearly.
He can even stand up and practise along with the sensei.
It also shows the performer at the best angles where you can see his movements. If it had been a frontal shot all the way, viewers would not be able to see how the techinque is being performed if his back is facing the camera right.
I think --- and this is only what I think --- some people prefer a human-like KIAI. They might find the one here and in the other videos to be too scary. Sure scares the hell out of children, as it sounds like one coming from a monster in a horror movie. Lol!
Having said that, I kinda like it...serious. I like it. Lol!

I feel like I used to do this kata as a blue belt in shotokan 🧐 is it a black belt kata or na?
If you were taught this kata your instructor/ Sensei did you an injustice as this kata was intended for Dan level skill set and Brown belt senior level students. Modern day Martial arts centers, programs, Dojo’s and any other training platforms that are advancing training for in most cases to students that ill equipped with the mental skill set and certainly the physical tools to sustain the full application using Bunkai with the Kata’s. A house built on a weak foundation does not endure the elements, a house built on a strong foundation can last forever. Which foundation was your kata built on as a Kyu level Karate-Ka?

That's what I felt also. I was thinking Shodan. Perhaps it's the slow motion that makes it appear that way. Though several of the moves do not look correct to me as to the direction of the forces and movements.

@@imho2278 I know nothing of Tai Chi except from observation, but, as in karate, their stance is strong, weight is dropped. This man is the opposite. This is not good karate under anyone's style, and he says he is 5th Dan!
Most of it is horrible. The stance is small, the punches and blocks are weak, and just most of it is horrible!

Sloppy stances, techniques are sluggish, there is no power in anything he does , good to learn the general moves but bad for much else
Totally correct. Everything is wrong. Stances are high and short. Sometimes there is hanmi where the hips should be square and sometimes square where it should be hanmi. Shuto uke is in terrible position. Turns his head to look after executing the technique. And he says he's fifth dan.

Hasan Solim if he’s 5th dan he should know to sharp technique regardless of older style, all karate styles have sharp powerful techniques
Henrick Boot Kanazawa among numerous others are very legitimate shotokan practitioners, it’s less about belt and more and intensity of training
