cool,,I couldn't wait to leave my old job to get as far away from cnc as possible, after 10 years of pcb manufacture and 11 years in the school tech dept with the cleaning lubing, software updates, work movement adjustment, new motherboards, extractor emptying and then every time a student got onto it they never got the work piece in the right place or mounted correctly, or saved their work and forgot the filename/location...the beauty of them though is if you know what you are doing they will run and run while you get on with something else and the work is consistent each time...if I mention knife scales(handles) that should give you ideas.....all the best!
Nice video.. However if you want to keep it working flawlessly, then i recommend doing your wiring properly. at 10:50 i can see that you have centimeters of bare wiring. Only bare wire asfar as the wire go into the connectors. Leaving bare wire outside of the connector is a sure way to, from less to severe, break your milling bit and workpiece, shorting the psu or burning out the gshield. I am also building my x-carve 1000mm, one of my steppers had a internal break so im waiting for my replacement.
NightHawkInLight Thanks! It wasn't originally my idea, I think that it was mentioned first on the forums. For the more advanced 3d carve for the rambone I downloaded a free 15 day trial of Meshcam V6 and used it to slice the free 3d stl files for the rambone slingshot provided by Joerg Sprave. I then generated some tool paths for each slice and sent the g-code using universal g-code sender. This was quite easy despite the complex 3d shape. The idea was from a tutorial by winston moy here: ruclips.net/video/0OAEJx2g4DI/видео.html Hope this helps!
If you have the time and resources I think a good modification for the x-carve to have a shop vac next to the bit. You should be able to make a flattened out tip (keep it looking a bit nice instead of a random pipe) for the vacuum and use some double-sided tape to secure it to the head where the carving bit is, then with a simple eye screw in the roof you can hang the vacuum tubing up with some string. This would save you the effort of having to keep vacuuming up the dust and would allow for longer projects to be done without having to baby sit the cnc
Definitely not a UK only issue on the Stepper motor power. In the US here and had the same exact problem. Extremely annoying since somehow my search-fu was not strong enough to turn up any results for this when I was troubleshooting so I spent a day triple checking connections and reseating various parts.
awesome. I had seen the X carve and was worried it wouldn't work in Ireland or the UK with the differences in power frequency. Could this still be an issue?
I love your videos but please don't do all projects on the cnc machine because I can't buy one and I just spent all my money on a grizzly bandsaw Thanks keep up the good work
Fast paced and packed with information. Really great job.
Welcome to the X-Carve club, you will have a ton of fun with it.
Fantastic tool.

Good idea with the shrink wrap tube. How did you do the 3d carve on the rambone? Did you get some upgraded software?
NightHawkInLight Thanks!

Oh and of course, great video as always and can't wait to see more projects with this beautiful machine.

Very concise sir, thank you.

well done coming so far you can get free stuff =) i wish you the best of luck in the future
you should do a tutorial on how to make a PVC Recurve Bow
What is the difference between the X-Carve and the Shapeoko? Size?
What sized collet is in your spindle there fella?
What programs are you using for your 3D carving? Just curious, I use V Carve pro and Universal Gcode Sender but I havent tried 3D carving yet!
Cool video it was a great review
Looks good so how much did it cost????
you know, i really like you :D
keep it up!
Hi. Nice build.
do you think we can use it to make a gun stock?
i like to say you should make a vaccum system around your workshop and a add a vaccum to the x carve to get rid of debbree
could it cut metal if you needed too .
Nice score getting a free tool! You really need to buy a set of good wire strippers...
Make a x-bow as a project using only the cnc machine.
Andrew Reilman thanks, Also yes if I do plan on doing any more electronics work I do really need some proper wire strippers!
The Art of Weapons can u do a tutorial on how to make a hand made wooden knife
