I just bought a Wilesco D22 and it is such a lovely thing. And there is a huge range of accessories you can drive from it, ranging from fairground items to a complete miniature workshop.
Great video Fred, brought back many happy memories. My grandfather was an engineer on the railways all his working life and he used to build his own steam engines from scratch. Boy oh boy did we have some fun, not to mention a few scary moments LOL. Thanks Fred. Have a great Christmas and take care. Roy.
Absolutely fantastic Fred. You are bringing out the kid in me again. it must be true that there is always that little kid in us that yearns to be in that moment sometimes. It is amazing how much power can be generated with such little water through the use of steam. I can't wait to see your steam tractor. Thanks for sharing this video and I look forward to more in the future. All the best to you my friend. Take good care of yourself.
Thanks Andy. I never really wanted to grow up as i grew older. Of course mortgage. bills, and helping raise kids forces you along that path but you can still enjoy the big boy toys which perhaps you never had when you were a child.
So true Fred. I sold my motorcycle to buy a 4 door car when we were expecting our first born. I sure missed all the riding. That was 20 plus years ago. I hope to get back to riding some day.
A very nice video. I also have the Wilesco D18 in my collection, but I have fired up my Märklin 4112 for my winter steam. It's great fun to operate the steam engine outdoors on these chilly days.
Steam engines and cold weather just sort of go together for making great photos and videos, though it's not exactly the most comfortable for the poor engineman running 'er! These little Wilesco engines are great, they'll run on just a sniff of steam once they're all warmed up, and the build quality is great. Thanks for sharing, always neat to see content from a fellow steam nut!
I think for the money they are very fair and hard not to start collecting. Of course i would love an engine with real bearings etc but those are serious money and out of my budget.
Love it. I had one of these when I was a kid and loved it. Through many moves it is long gone but definitely want to buy a new one like what you have. Looks like so much fun! Yep brings out the kid in me as well! Thanks for sharing the video!
yeah, I remember that smell. I may ping you when I get it, if I have any setup issues. I just watched a video where the guy setup a complete machine shop... wow.. that's fun!
Ive got the M55 M56 M61 machine shop. I will leave a link after this. The main thing is to rem to apply plenty of steam oil. (not motor oil) to all the turning surfaces every time you run it.
Very nice video! It’s a great steam engine. I have a similar one, a d16, but it doesn’t have a pressure gauge or generator. But I think I might add a pressure gauge to it and a compressed air fitting to it so that I can do things like pressure tests.
Great video! I'm new on it all and I just didn't know witch one to get, because they have so many different ones. Your video convinced me to get the D18. Lots and lots of steam, and a wonderfull machine to look at.
Its a powerful engine if you let it really go. Great things to own. You will love it. I have the workshop and the Mighty Atom videos if you search on my channel
If you ever get bored with it, you can put it in a model boat. Either Bogey's African Queen or a Tramp Steamer, servos for the throttle and steering, LED's powered by the steam engine. Nothing better in my mind than a lazy winter day at the pond or lake. I bought a $10 electric remote control boat for retrieval when she runs out of fuel, keeps my britches dry :-)
:-) So I have seen. I will watch it later. If you are into these sort of things, do feel free to check out my channel as well. Not so many Wilescos there unfortunately but plenty of other brands and makes.
My name is Fred , also, and I have my Wilesco steam engine I received for Christmas in 1968. I have it in the original box, purchase from the Sears catalog. Unfortunately I lost the small black weight that hung on the whistle valve. Could that be replaced from Wilesco? It still amazes me what I find on RUclips.
-3°C is 27°F for us Yanks. That's more than frosty here in So Cal, lol. The best I can do is in the 40's. But even at that, the steam plumes look great. Such a let down in the summer months, hahah.
Cheers buddy. Yes i had been waiting for waiting for a frosty morning to fire the Wilseco up. Its been close to 50 f here in the UK today. Crazy changing weather.
Great video. I purchased the D14 a few days ago and I see the burn time with the supplied briquettes aren't very long. I purchased some camping lighting bricks and they worked well but the flame is rather high and blackens the sides of the boiler. Do you think it would cause damage to the boiler? I suppose the boilers are manufactured to withstand that type of heat and flame? Thanks!
Thank you Fred, so you just wait to it cools, that makes sense, as would be expanding because of the heat. I had seen on a RUclips clip a demonstration of mine, and they said to remove tray whilst hot so it wouldn't get stuck.
Unfortunately upon this model.. (as they do with most) the gearing is far too low- meaning the engine must be thrashed, to get the lamp to illuminate to a reasonable brightness, which wont be doing the engine any favours at all. It should be geared like this with a MUCH LARGER pulley in the engine- so it runs at a realistic speed, like this one... ruclips.net/video/MY8i2ccKOXg/видео.html

I know its addictive. Ive got the workshop on another video on the channel.
When you buy a Wilesco product, you are never too old for that 🙃
Very pleasing and nice video. Great engine. Wonderful.
Beautiful ❤these. I have the D16 will look at buying another

Brilliant Video Fred.....loving the steam show with the cold weather. Thanks for braving the elements to make it for us.
The Music fits perfect 👌
mmmmmmmm a very frosty morning, one very cold. Fred and a steam engine. What more can I say. Mid life crisis lol great video buddy
Yep. Thanks mate.
Very nice machine there Fred, looks and works fantastic!

Yeah they are super addictive an rather pricey. Of course i want more :-)
What a beautiful rig.
I have the D6, I got to take it out in the cold, what a great show in the cold
Nice one. Ive been running mine well below freezing and the steam is amazing.

Welcome buddy. Warning they are very addictive.
I ordered one... can't wait till it arrives here.
You will love it. The smell of hot steam oil is amazing. Well to me anyway.

Great video, loved to see the chimney working as well.
Just got my first steam engine, just the D6, but I love it, an I'm 70 next birthday 👍
Well done Rex. Never too old. Warning though they are addictive and you will want others.
Thankyou Fred 👍
Wow, what a beauty!
Wonderful.

Yes ive seen boilers in boats.
Sweet child o mine
At the intro
Yes spot on. I had to stop using it when stricter copyrights kicked in.
Changed to November rain or welcome to the jungle
a few years ago this was demonstrated at school it was cool
Very nice film :D I am not a big Wilesco collector but I do have a few. Your D 18 runs VERY nicely.
Thanks. There is a video of the "Mighty Atom" tractor on the channel.
:-) So I have seen. I will watch it later. If you are into these sort of things, do feel free to check out my channel as well. Not so many Wilescos there unfortunately but plenty of other brands and makes.
Neat kit :)

Lovely
awesome video...they are great :-)
Thanks. Have a Wilesco Atom engine to review next.
wow these are hard to find
Almost 2 bars, impressive
Nice video. Well edited and narrated. Normally I don't care for music in something like this, but I'll grant an exception here. :)
Thanks. I dont normally add music but it sort of went with the peaceful early morning.
Super Film 👍
Thanks
Very nice, I sold all of mine in the summer, no space to keep them all sadly...
Oh ok mate i did not know you were into live steam.
I uploaded many video's over the years, They have their own playlist lol.
I still have a few mind you.
Great. I will have a look over the weekend. I can see how they become collectable.
I end up collecting everything, it's a disease I have.
Yeah iam a bit like that. I have to be real careful after a few glasses of vino on Ebay.
Sublime.
how could anyone resist that name fredin the shed , brilliant
Great video. Can you run other electricity other than the lantern from the dynamo? Say a string of lights for a village?
Yes in theory it should run a few 5v leds. However there is very little amps from the tiny generator.
I love the D18 with its generator and street lamp. Does it have another pulley so it could drive other things besides the generator?
It does not come with a double pulley but you can add one to the drive shaft.

I might be available Fred as part of the whistle. Have a search on Ebay as normally there are a good selection of parts listed. Good hunting. :-)
For some reason these seem to run smoother when run counter clockwise. Being double acting they will run In either direction.
Realy quite fascinating things arent they. Thought about getting the d16 used on ebay because 260€ is a little too much for me. Great Video !
Yes they have become pricey. Nice things to own.
OH I found the same you got on ebay for 50€. but without safety valve but doesnt matter it doesnt cost much :D

Ich habe von Wilesco eine D10 und eine D20,e kommt bald eine kleine D2

I doubt it will do any damage but will not look so nice. Many use a bottle gas burner with a ceramic element.
In this video, I can't see the light coming from the light. Did it light up?
Hi yes it lights.
Beautiful music! What is it?
Hi. It was called "Laid_Back_Guitars" on the free RUclips library
Where did you get the bar gauge from
Came with the engine.
@@CB-RADIO-UK can you remember where you got the engine from as I would like to get one with a working bar gauge
@@ou-wz1fx I ordered mine direct from Germany. You will find sellers on ebay. The D18 came with the pressure gauge.
I have a question, Do you happen to know how many volts the generator makes??
Think it was around 4 volts.
@@CB-RADIO-UK TYTYVVVM
I WAS KINDA HOPEING FOR 11112 VOLTS
12 SORRY MY KEYBOARD AND TYPING SKILLS ARENT THE best
LOL not nothing like that. Very low amps as well.
You need a little stainless blow down bucket
I'm 77, just sent for one.
You will love it !
Hello Fred,
Just a query, my D6 fuel tray gets stuck, and so difficult to remove. Have you had this problem?
Mine does not get stuck but its hard to pull out once its hot.
Thank you Fred, so you just wait to it cools, that makes sense, as would be expanding because of the heat.
I had seen on a RUclips clip a demonstration of mine, and they said to remove tray whilst hot so it wouldn't get stuck.
where can buy one ?
Ebay
Do you have an address I can order one from and the cost thanks
Hi. I ordered mine direct from Germany. You can buy on ebay from Germany. Last time i looked they were around £240-270 delivered.
Does the d10 smoke stack ancually let out steam through it
Yes it does as it has the exhaust running to it.
That looks likes my grandpas steam engine but in better condition
Nice machine shame about music drowning the sound of engine !!!
What wood one like that cost? Thanks
I ordered straight from Germany so prices vary with exchange but around £250-270
What’s the intro song ?
Sweet child O mine
Cheers,
If I wanted to hear acoustic guitar I would have tuned into one of those videos...geez.
Well i looks like its just you buddy "Beautiful music! What is it? " :-)

Yes your right the pulley is too small. The motor is pretty weak a well.
itis no problen to play when you are old!!!
Yep its great :-) Just that the toys cost a bit more.
