The parents of this counter culture, from ignorant love, set their children free. Free from man, free from God. Thinking that was the cure to modern disease; man made church of man. Little did they know that in that damaging kind of freedom we would be ultimately empowered to return to God. The nightmare of sin they gave us for freedom turned by God into our ballast. Carrying us upon the tide of forgetful evil back to His Church. To learn to be His Children! What a great, great, great mystery.
    Glory to God!

A good talk, but the laying down of both lives is really equal. Every time a woman carries a child and delivers a new life through the passage of her body there is tremendous sacrifice (a labour of love, life, and blood). Even more so, in Western countries, where children are often seen as a liability to her (if the husband/father isn't available to the family), having children can almost guarantee the risk of impoverishment for a woman or lower retirement security. (I'm a female Muslim convert to Orthodoxy).

I will just say this. I agree with the yoke mates view and that one must be equally yoked. Especially since it feels like ive been told to be perfect before i can get married.
At the same time... It feels like youve said that man has to basically sacrifice everything for the wife. But what if the wife doesnt care about the mans sacrifice and keeps demanding more?
    Ive seen this consistently.
Modern people are greedy and often tell others that ask for a little something that they demand too much.
I know marriage is a sacrament. But in the modern west. It feels like it is treated more like an extended dating game. Or merely an agreed upon contract. Not even a bond.

This is functionally accurate, unfortunately. That's why I've adopted both the teachings of the church, but I also know how intersexual dynamics work and use both in my marriage. Sadly, that may not be enough to save it, but we brought a lot of baggage into it from outside the church too. Date accordingly.

We got married in our parish back in 2006, so it's seventeen years in now, plus we were together for four years before that (we're both in our early forties, @ the boundary between Gen-X & Millenial). There's nothing more difficult in life for us non-monastics than marriage, nothing. Monks/nuns have their thing & we have ours. St. John Chrysostom realized how difficult the married life is when he moved to Constantinople, whereas before that he looked @ things from only a monk's perspective.
You have to patiently let a woman be hard-headed & screw up, then you have to gently & lovingly explain the situation to her w/o being accusatory, display understanding for where she was coming from, & be humble about your own shortcomings, etc. It's tough, but the alternatives are no family, no kids, no sex (@ least not blessed by God), & no spouses to save each others' souls.
That's the real point of marriage: salvation. It's the major ascetic struggle in human history, not monasticism--not even close numerically speaking. A difficult wife can save your soul effectively if you don't get psyched out. If you can be a good husband & dad there might even be a little joy in there from time to time too. It's not easy. It's really hard. Is anything easy in life worth it?

    • @OrthodoxEthos
      @OrthodoxEthos  Год назад +18

Please look up the article “The mystery of marriage in a dogmatic light” by Bishop Artemy. Sexual relations are blessed by God within marriage for having and raising children to love and serve the Lord. Sexual acts which are intended only for pleasure and the indulgence of the flesh and which are not open to procreation are not blessed by God. If a couple is told that they are biologically unable to have children, since all things are possible with God it is still blessed if they have sexual relations with hope and trust in God that He might grant children if it is His will.

I thought women were supposed to be good, submissive keepers of the home also? We need more (ever dwindling in numbers) Titus 2 women to remind younger women that men want the Proverbs 31:10 wife. Hey, if my standard as a man and husband should be to be like Jesus Christ, then her standard as the wife should be the Proverbs 31:10 wife (or the blessed virgin Theotokos), seems only fair.

Listening to his message which is from the Saints would be profitable. Sometimes we have distractions in life but that does mean we can't focus on God. Why go so fast to judge when we can listen to the message and move closer to God. Theirs no better feeling, then when you're following God. The Saints which he's quoting are the ones we follow and learn from. They're Saints because they truly follow God. It's really changed my life realizing this. I'm not a wise man but my heart feels at ease having experienced this. Father Peter Heers is Truly Orthodox. He teaches Orthodoxy truthfully and by experience. Learning from the Saints and putting forth their message. I'm Grateful for that. Glory to God ☦️

Feminism was badly needed given the way society has treated women throughout the ages. Unfortunately, it's conservative religion that puts down femininity and uplifts masculinity and male-entitlement. It took a secular video to show me how Ephesians touches on truths about femininity and masculinity. Now, remember, everything must go back directly to a teaching of Christ. So, under the umbrella of submitting to each other, the wife submits (receives from the man and supports) and the husband's headship is to care for the wife as Christ cares for the church by providing for and to carrying out acts of service to benefit others. There is no hierarchy, no who is the boss, etc.. It's just a way of carrying out Christ's command to love one another in a way that touches on aspects of femininity and masculinity.

One of the biggest scams in history and today is the attitude that a woman isn't valuable unless she's a man. And depending on time, place, cultural and religious aspects it usually takes place somewhere between the spectrum of "she's not a man so she's worthless and can do nothing to change that"------"she can provide men with services (ie. housekeeping, s3x) that they want so she is to be tolerated and has some value as long as she keeps doing that"--------"she's valued and respected as long as she acts like a man". In the west women are typically put somewhere between the second and third. In some other countries they are often put between the first two options, sadly.
I am forever grateful that feminism got me my basic human rights. Not being allowed to go out without a man or a chaperone, not being able to have my own bank account, not being allowed to make my own political or religious choices, having no legal right to my own children if my husband leaves me? No thanks! But people are taking it too far. God created a man and a woman, not a man and a slightly smaller, weaker man.
If I have to act like a man in order to be valued and respected by society, I don't want it.
