I think 9v on your ignition wire is correct. See if it jumps to 12 v when cranking. If so its got a resistor to save the coil from burning up. Running 12v all day could be why it was hot to the touch. Cool truck!
What a score on that F100. I am so happy you were able to get it to start. I'm looking forward to seeing you and your son getting this one on the road again. What a sweet truck!!! While I know it's probably not worth doing, especially since you have what sounds like a great C6 but I'd love to see you convert this one back to a 3-on-the-tree again. I'm a sucker for those. Regardless of the transmission though, this is going to be one fun truck!
I wish some Ford F-100 aficionado would point me to how to fix the darn door latches on a '68. I have the passenger side that'd giving me fits, but I'm shooting in the dark. Let the nuts fall where they may! Nice video. BTW, my '68 is a stroker 427FE and a C6. Edelbrock EFI which I'm not 100% sold on, but she's pretty zippy. Dyno'd at 410HP and 520lbs/ft torque. It's a shortbed beast that is loads of fun. My first truck even though I grew up with trucks.
We have had a few issues with the door latches on these bump sides. The latch itself has to click twice so if it's not locking in place for you, you may need to replace your door mechanism.
@@rustynutsgarage4099 to be more clear about my issue the outside button works fine. It’s the inside latch that’s inside of the armrest if I get the latch to hook underneath and I button it down when I try to pull it back it’s really hard and then it just kind of snaps and then it’s disconnected so I’m not quite sure how to deal with. Do you by chance have any place or any info that might help out? Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it and look forward to other videos. 👍🏼👍🏼
@@scottboettcher definitely something on your mechanism not sure if your location, but if anybody's around, maybe you can scab some parts from a spare door
Beautiful old truck, reminds me of my dads old ford same truck as yours,i like the 3 on the tree, your has got the best motor i would love have truck like that, good find
Nice Find! And your correct to good to part out. Do you have a source for used parts by any chance? I have 3 Bumps, One needs several things. Lmk Thanks
I have about 20 of these bumpside trucks. We have some parts, you just have to let me know what you need. You can contact me through the Rusty nuts garage page on Facebook
Another great find. Love to see them come back to life.
You and me both! It's a passion that I've instilled in my kids, to keep this old Steel on the road

That's what I thought. Solenoid should (I think) give temp 12v to the coil...

Black box next to Duraspark is an old school Mallory coil
Thanks for that! I knew it was a coil, just had never seen one before. Glad you pointed that out! Thanks for being here
The water neck off a 390 motor I bet
Rest assured, I'll put the correct one on it before I drive it. Last thing I want is a big sticky antifreeze mess. LOL
yea that cap is nasty.
I'm pretty sure that, and the condenser were the main culprits in the starting issues
F100 Aficionado. Is that the full size Ranchero? :)
I believe it would be the miniature Ranchero, aptly dubbed the Rancherito! 🤣
