They have a few weird phasing issues with the mics. The mics they were using weren't completely perpendicular to each other, or something like that. It causes some frequencies to either cancel or grow on each other, causing the gate kind of effect.

It's very possible that they needed someone with good ears on the end. Makes sense to me.

Actually with Phantom usually the center only does one year and then they pass it on. With the exception of 2013 and 2014 that's usually what happens

nah, its not bad at all. guy sounds amazing and the blend is there, but its just a personal pet peeve of mine to see inconsistent grip and style.
