For all that watch this video and are wondering why my hands were shaky, I had some coffee earlier before my shave, probably not the smartest thing to do as i am fairly sensitive to caffeine. I appreciate all the concerns from the viewers. I do not have parkinsons or diabetes. After reading this comment if you still feel like comment on my shaky hands feel free but i will not respond, thank you for watching.
i know the vid is old. (2016) but for newbies; several things: this is a shavette (replaceable blades), a cut throat (straight razor) is a single blade you sharpen repeatedly. epilate against the grain (that's what the brush is for, badger hair is reportedly the best, soak in warm water, not hot, before creating the cream with the soap) shave with the grain for first few passes flip the razor all the way through so the point is out the other side and hold with 2-3 fingers on razor side 1-2 on the other angle is between 20-30 degrees use small strokes
It's always obvious when people comment if they actually know whst they are talking about or just copy paste or just relaying the word. To many people on here giving advice they don't even know what they are talking about. And this videos thread is filled with them
I just shaved for the first time with my straights razor today. I would recommend used clear shaving gel so you can see what you are doing. Also shave with the grain instead against it
Whatever y'all do don't let the straight razors go... They are best and sooooo economical... I got my first no brand straight razor from the hair store when I was 16... I used to use gillets and shit $12 for one... It was time to get a new head, so wat does a broke kid do? Buy a new razor for $12 cause he doesn't have $16 just for the heads... So I got my $12 went to the hair store $3 for the straight razor and i bought !!!!! 9!!!!! Cartridges of blades thats 180 blades... Man I learned how to use it, ofcourse I've cut my self before, but I still have hella blades and iam all ways lined up well groomed...
Had my first one 10 minutes ago, not a single nick! Went with the grain, across and against like I would with a safety razor and I actually preferred it, no redness or sore skin, no bumps at all and I only had to wash the razor twice. As long as you stretch the skin and apply little pressure, you'll be fine :)
Oh my, that's a beautiful knife. I've seen these on Amazon and have overlooked it so many times. I am jelly of you for this being your first shavette. I hope you are still using these kind of razors, cartridge shavers are an extreme rip off that NO MAN should waste money on.
I use a straight blade for shaving you did pretty good for a first timer you were brave. As your technique gets better it gets easier. This video is old if you stuck to it you are probably a pro by now
I have just ordered a straight razor and intend to use it for daily shaving. I already use a brush and soap and have done for a good many years. I am using a blade that uses a strop because I intend to ave this blade out live me. I liked this one, it was your first time shaving and you had one little nick. It gives me hope. Thank you.
this idea may sound funny to you but ,you can practice your hand grip and your shave angle using some shaving soap and the top edge of a butter knife or even a popsicle stick. the first attempt to use a sharp razor can be intemidating for a newbie or a rookie, untill you develope muscle memory and confidence.
Yeah that might be a good idea. Its honestly not to bad as long as you don't push to hard or hold the blade perpendicular to your skin, try to maintain a 45 degree angle.
Jordy Perez Allways stretch the skin face or head. Go nice and slow take your time once you improve it we’ll get easy first thing I purchased was a straight razor have it to this day. And if anything I’d say get yourself a cheap razor since your starting once you got it down get one may 15$-30$ max. If you have any beard and want it shaped up reccomend getting a andis t outliners very gentle. If you just like straight shave then just a straight razor we’ll do.
You had a good first-time video of First-time Straight Shave.. I saw as you where nervous about it. But as time heels all wounds, how do feel now at still using a Straight Shaver.. Can you comment about it..??..
never go against the grain on your first time thats just nuts man i have been using shavettes for a little over a week i still dont go against the grain but hey you did an awesome job. there are tools to line up your beard like the beard ninja and what not check it out on amazon.com .
qazi faisal it was my first time so luckily i lived to learn haha. Ill look into the tools for a straight line, thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
IamMrsnesbit97 it’s easy don’t rush you we’ll get use to it never once have I nicked any client or myself unless the blades were not good. Allways stretch the skin so your less likely to nick yourself. Get a towel hot water put it in the microwave for a few secs till damp so the hair are sensitive and get softer easy to go with or against the grain. Allways put alchool after this whole proccess with shaving just in case bactiery is in your razor if you let it sit their.
Despite the wrong terminology (shavette not straight) I'm giving you a like for bravery. Shaky hands from coffee and Derby blades wich are some of the dullest blades on the market you did very good.
My battle buddies always thought i had a deathwish because I would do this dry shave in the back of a M113A2 while we were riding through waddies in Iraq. LOL. Sappers Foward!!!
Super brave! I got a crappy magic shaver. I like the slide lock ones better I think. I watched another video that used binder clips as a guide which appeared to be about 15 degrees or about 1/2 the width of your thumb
Your not soupoused to go against the grain with a straight razor. Also i would never shave if my hands were that shaky. Gets me nervous just thinking about it
Cool demo. But with real concern for you, the shaky hands look like diabetes. They get shaky with low blood sugar. If you haven't been diagnosed, you should get tested. I sincerely hope you are well.
Thank you for watching but with all due respect I am not sure if you think you are a doctor but you shouldn't give medical advice without having full knowledge of the situation. I do not have diabetes. FYI i had some coffee earlier before my shave, truth be told probably not the smartest thing to do as I am fairly sensitive to caffeine.
salamx1976 Suggesting that you be tested out of concern is just that; a suggestion. I did not direct you to a specific treatment of any kind, thus no medical advice was given. But hey happy Monday.
Great first go with the razor. If you want to progress with it, try practicing using your opposite hand as well and without a blade inserted. This allows different grips of the razor for better access to your beard. Also we have a group on Facebook just for these types of razors. Feel free to join us Http://shavetteworld.space
I bought my husband this cut throt blade and he does not know how to use it, He definitely doesn't trust me to get anywhere near his throat with this blade, Shame!

salamx1976 what mRP of your razor
salamx1976 you should always shave in the direction of hair growth when straight razor Shaving :)
Reminds me of my first straight razor shave. Scared to death and void of skill.
Glad you mentioned it.... Was wondering if your hands were shaky... How you were gonna shave... Shavettes are scary IMHO!!
Same here
that's pretty brave, going against the grain first try with a cutthroat
Daniel Johnson got some balls hahaha
OMG I was nervous.... when I saw him do it.
@guess what no way... 😂😂😂😂
@guess what
LoL
That’s not a cutthroat it’s a cheap toy replica

famous last words: wish me luck...
that style of replacable blade razors are called shavettes
I just shaved for the first time with my straights razor today. I would recommend used clear shaving gel so you can see what you are doing. Also shave with the grain instead against it

What blades are they called for that price
The derby blades the guy is using in the video is $5 for 100! Extremely cheap compared to $30 for 5 Gillette razors
Oh my god, but me a lottery ticket, I don't know how you're still alive going against the grain at 15mph
Saul Goodman not just that but the angles super wrong

I want to say thank you so much for showing how to put the razor into the holding place my dumbass couldn't figure it out for the past 20mins...
That was my first Shavette as well. But I have the stainless one.
I use a straight blade for shaving you did pretty good for a first timer you were brave. As your technique gets better it gets easier. This video is old if you stuck to it you are probably a pro by now
Thank you so much. I just purchased this razor and couldn't figure out how to open it to install the new blade.

Amazing first attempt, you did great seeing you were shaking and were holding it wrong but hey, who says there is only one way to shave....
First time with a straight razor, immediately starts with the throat. Brave man.
Against the grain at that
Thank you for uploading I'm getting this for my husband for Christmas!
For him to kill himself?
this idea may sound funny to you but ,you can practice your hand grip and your shave angle using some shaving soap and the top edge of a butter knife or even a popsicle stick. the first attempt to use a sharp razor can be intemidating for a newbie or a rookie, untill you develope muscle memory and confidence.
Yeah that might be a good idea. Its honestly not to bad as long as you don't push to hard or hold the blade perpendicular to your skin, try to maintain a 45 degree angle.
Yes ,go slow and steady.
Just a tip with shavettes you actually want to maintain a 15-20% angle and with a thicker blade straight its about 30%.
Jared Guerra. Thanks for the tip about blade angle using a shavette
Not a problem always willing to help someone coming into any hobby of mine ahaha. Have fun shaving!
Are these blades any good??
When I did it for the first time I did it to my friend saying I am expert in it n unfortunately he believed me😂😂😂😂
I liked the blood drops on the thumbnail :D genuinely cleched my teeth while watching.
has he upload any other video after that shave ?
Έλιωσα :-)
Yo i just got one today and low key I’m scared but I know I’ll need it if any great tips let me know thx.

How often do you change the blade

Good video. Still bricking it though. I'll use a safety razor and then re-trace the area with the Sharpy to get the feel for it
Can you use a straight razor to shave your entire beard? Or is it solely for shaping up
Either way
Was I the only one "puckering" while watching this?
thank you !
Great start guy take your time
Good job!!
Cool shave man, I use a Safety Razor, keep up the good work man
You did pretty good but like everything practice will help
Tips: don't go against the grain and use your right hand for right side, left hand for left side.
When it comes to what hand you use, you do what feels right.
Great vid. Thanks for the help
Getting onesoon trying to learn the ways.

To quote the world famous Charles Barkley " Das Turrible..."

Super brave! I got a crappy magic shaver. I like the slide lock ones better I think. I watched another video that used binder clips as a guide which appeared to be about 15 degrees or about 1/2 the width of your thumb
I just got an antique straight razor - and I used it - but the way you hold the razor is not the TRADITIONAL way
I hope you are well....
Well done
First time: "let me show you how to put a razor on".
Seems to be a struggle. I think I will stick with my 5 blade Gillette
Nice video bro
Sherjeel Chaudhry thank you for the kind words
I was checking my face, to see if I was cut and bleeding Damn!
Need shaving gel not cream it will glide much better
it is not a straight razor, its a shavette
