Heath would have been an absolute titan today with the modern focus on character acting. From A24 to the MCU, Coens, Safdies, Eggers. And more importantly just being there for his family and friends. Gigantic loss for sure.

"It's not about money... it's about sending a message."
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of David Dastmalchian.
What's The Emergency Fact: While filming a chase scene on Lake Street, the Chicago Police Department received several calls from concerned citizens stating that the police were involved in a vehicle pursuit with a dark vehicle of unknown make or model.
Epic Cameo Fact: Senator Patrick Leahy (D) of Vermont is the older gentleman that confronts The Joker (Heath Ledger) at the party thrown by Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) for Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). Senator Leahy is a huge Batman fan and arranged an early showing of the movie for a fundraiser for the children's section of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vermont. He also appeared in Batman Forever (1995), Batman & Robin (1997), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and as a Batman: The Animated Series (1992) voice.
And Scene Fact: Heath Ledger directed both homemade videos that The Joker sends to GCN. The first video involving the fake Batman (Andy Luther) was done under writer, producer, and director Christopher Nolan's supervision. Nolan thought Ledger had done so well with that sequence, he felt there was no need for him to be there when it came time to film the scene where reporter Mike Engel (Michael Anthony Hall) reads The Joker's statement. He put his trust in Ledger and let him do whatever he wanted, ultimately pleased with the result after he'd seen the outcome.
Becoming The Joker: In preparation for his role as the Joker, Heath Ledger hid away in a motel room for about six weeks. During this extended stay of seclusion, Ledger delved deep into the psychology of the character. He devoted himself to developing the Joker's every tic, namely the voice and that sadistic-sounding laugh (for the voice, Ledger's goal was to create a tone that didn't echo the work Jack Nicholson did in his 1989 performance as the Joker). Ledger's interpretation of the Joker's appearance was primarily based on the chaotic, disheveled look of punk rocker Sid Vicious combined with the psychotic mannerisms of Malcolm McDowell's character, Alex De Large, from A Clockwork Orange (1971). Heath Ledger's sudden death from drug toxicity on January 22, 2008, prompted immediate speculation over this movie's state and Ledger's disposition prior to death. Soon after Ledger's death was announced, Warner Bros. issued a statement that verified that Ledger had finished all of his scenes in principal photography, as well as post-production duties (looping), thus making the Joker his final, completed movie role. Rumors abounded that playing the intense role had taken its toll on Ledger's mental state, causing him to become depressed and take the wrong combination of drugs as a result. However, his family has since put such rumors to rest by stating that far from being depressed, he had a lot of fun playing the role. Ledger did suffer from insomnia throughout his life, and would often take sleeping pills together with other prescription drugs (something his sister had actually warned against the night before his death). Unfortunately, the mix he took that night proved to be a fatal combination.

Heath Ledger was so good. That hospital scene where he walks outside and sets the charge and turns around was improvised because it didn’t originally go off. Insane acting skills to commit to something when it goes good or bad when you have only one take.

Fun fact at 21:25 the entire beating in the scene were real punches. Heath Ledger asked him to not hold back at all to make the scene as convincing as possible. Heath Ledger was literally eating every punch full force. I got so much respect for that man

    • @GhostInPajamas

This isn’t true, Heath asked Bale to hit him for real but it didn’t happen. It’s still impressive that Heath wanted to do it for real but that would be insanely dangerous and wouldn’t be allowed on a professional set

@@SamPentury "Christian Bale did not actually punch Heath Ledger during the interrogation scene in 'The Dark Knight'. However, Ledger, immersed in his role as the Joker, encouraged Bale to physically engage with him to make the scene feel more authentic. Bale has recounted in interviews that Ledger would slam himself into the walls and wanted Bale to hit him for real. While Bale did physically interact with Ledger, he didn't intentionally punch him."
Yall are hilarious if you really think a a massive Warner Bros blockbuster that cost $185m to make was going to let a star of an important character get the shit beat out of him. Yeah, Heath was method acting and as such threw himself into the glass and egged on Bale, but Bale did not actually punch him.

I saw this in theaters 7 times and have watched it many more times then that and this is a Joker movie, not a Batman movie. The performance of this version of the Joker is perfection. When we lost him we lost what could have been one of the all time greats, even in his short life everything he touched was fantastic. I suggest chking out "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" *spelling. It was Ledger's final movie and was in production at the time of his death, no single actor would replace him in the role so they fully rewrote the movie around his performance and had 3 others play different versions of Dr. Parnassus, it's a but odd but very good and does an excellent job as a tribute to Ledger. As for your question, yeah I think the Batman inability to kill causes as many problems as he solves, but if he did he wouldn't be Batman.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that before they started shooting this movie jack nickelson talked to heath ledger and told him to be careful or something that the joker character messed with his head when he played him so to be careful. I thought that was pretty wild. Heath ledger is probably one of the top 5 best actors to exist in my opinion.

    • @PridelessChickz
      @PridelessChickz 4 месяца назад

Because method acting involves actually possessing yourself with the appropriate demons for the specific part they're playing. No joke. If you join an acting class, they'll eventually get into the techniques used to empty yourself to allow "something else" in. Of course, amateur actors don't go as deeply into satanism as mainstream actors do.

If you want to see Batman "cross the line" into killing, either watch or read Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns". The graphic novel is from 1986 and the animated movie is from 2010, I believe. It's about an older Bruce Wayne who retired Batman but comes back.........without the morals of protecting life. It's excellent!

From your question, you get that answer with Harvey, and ironically enough with the Joker,
Harvey suffered his wounds from villains and went insane with fighting "justice" his way by a flip of a coin, where he's judge, jury, and executioner, and you better not see him again, otherwise, you have a 50/50 of living.
As for the Joker, his story is more multiple choice, but in essence, it just took one bad day for him to become this mad and evil, he doesn't care about good or bad, just the chaos that he can cause and affects others.
Batman crossing that line will build a slippery slope of "when is it enough" where killing a murderer will end the path of more victims, but what stops the "hero" from excusing any other crimes that should be stopped.

    Here’s a thinker:
What Batman does in the end means everyone hates him and he’s done as Batman at that point considering only this movie. It’s the only true altruism I can think of, most examples have some benefit for the altruistic person, be it happiness and peace or something other comfortable as reward if you’re really strict about the term. This is altruism in an artpiece to marvel at. He does something for everyone with no reward for himself.

I will never understand how DC went from owning the superhero genre with The Dark Knight to being in Marvel's shadow. DC could've easily beaten Marvel but Warner Brothers just kept getting in the way and hiring the worst people to be in charge. DC has a better overall universe if they can get the right people to make a cinematic universe it would do better than the MCU but Warner Brothers just keeps hiring the wrong people and it's frustrating. Being a DC fan is rough man.
