Went to see him in The Stone Pony in the winter of ‘78, Springsteen showed up and they did some old rock and roll songs. Wound up ina big snowball fight and after hours boozing at The Jefferson . Good time.
I'm so sorry I missed this. A tribute like this should never be half assed, and this is anything but and yet few people could pull this off as well as Johansen (et al). It is a pure pleasure to see and to listen to. Thanks for posting.
Nobody comments about the wizardry going on in the keyboard department. The guy plays those effects boxes to amazing effect, creating an amazing sonic backdrop
up late jamming my guitar and came across this gem and band I've never heard of. I love when you see an artist and you know this is exactly what they are and they can't be anything else. Here's a band of them. Gem.
i met David twice on the street over the years - he was always super nice to me - self effacing and super cool. Also have seen him on stage a few times - always blows me away.
Triple Bill, Oct '82: David, The Clash, The Who. I was on the field 100 ft from the stage. What an unforgettable show. David was terrific, The Clash had legendary energy, The Who iconic in every sense of the word.
Love this song and I think this is the best cover. I have listened to a number of other bands who've also covered it, but I cannot find a female who has sung lead on a version of it. I'd love to hear a few women try it.
One of my favorite VU tracks. DJ looking like a mix between Tom Waits and Jagger. I thought the drummer was Tom Scharpling for a second. I see Earl Slick and Matt Sweeney so you know it’s gonna be good.
earl slick belongs in the rock n roll hall of fame
He is. Man is in the one that matters
He puts Richards decadence and guitar playing to shame.
@@Frank-sm9yl well now then there cowpoke I think yer gettin a bit excited now. Just a tad
well then cowboy how old are you? Richards ha Sir Elton described him perfectly @danielrae861
What a powerful and emotional tribute to Lou Reed. Best version of the song. Respect
lou wrote it but was sung by Doug Yule
The Black Crows version is pretty stellar too. Like, really freaking awesome.

Never get tired of David Jo. Seen him over 70 times in every incarnation.
Aren't you the lucky one ! He sure can sing !
He should be known for so much more than the NY Dolls

HE IS THE MAN
great closeup shows J.B. Scotts Albany N.Y
This man has the most awkward musical timing, something that can't be taught. It is raw and well, pretty damn awesome.
Saw them in nyc in the 80s
He was amazing
awkward or awesome?
@@jeromehenen8256 Both at the same time. Awkward does not have to be a negative, not when it is about creativity at least.
David has been one of the most talented performers in the history of music.Never get tired of listening to him.
love this music, it is raw and real and rhythmic and just so soulful....
Long live Lou Reed..one of America's greatest rock artists.
ROCK AND ROLL ANIMAL,THEN DAVEY J
Perfect match: Johanson singing Reed

David, well done! Your vice was made for R&B. Thank you, Earl Slick!
David IS rock and roll aging perfectly.
Old school cat covering an old school song by one of the best. Rip Lou rip thunders. Crazy how life is.
Earl slick has that Johnny Thunders rock n roll magic.
Thumbs up to Johansen to all the other that have covered this great number.
kat Mats: There's a kool video here on AdTube of The Black Crows doing a killer-good cover of this song!!
Black Crowes, My Morning Jacket, Neil Young, etc🎵👍

@@bobl310 I agree 👍💯🎶
Great tribute to Lou. Best cover of Velvet's I have ever heard. Ever.
Yes
The Black Crowes do a pretty mean cover of this song.
I might have to agree
Black Crows do a great job also
Can their be a bad cover of this song? Unless the talent is not there, this is one that just rolls on its own
I was there, in the rain. Best performance of the day.
Same here, it was amazing.
That's beautiful. Just beautiful.
He has aged like the best bottle of Campagne you can buy - he is so much better than the more commercial artists. / Tony
Saw the Dolls in 1973 in Allen Park Ice area, about 200 in attendance, maybe, but what a Show ,will never forget!!!
Hear, hear!
Great to see SLICK!!!! GREAT AS EVER!!! DAVE TOO!!!!!
Earl's guitar sounds great. I love how he gets those tinny yet rubbery sounds out of the notes. Absolutely perfect.
What a voice. Great band. Love the choir.
Love love love this version 🎸❤️🎵
Sounds better now than in his youth. Fantastic.
Agree
Correct. Much better. He's my quintessential aging rocker. Can teach the kids a thing or two about presence in rock and roll. I love his style.
Great version, simply great. Long live rock n roll
I miss Lou Reed every damn day.
The more you know, the less you need. Eventually we all have nothing at all.
Excellent
I'm so sorry I missed this. A tribute like this should never be half assed, and this is anything but and yet few people could pull this off as well as Johansen (et al). It is a pure pleasure to see and to listen to. Thanks for posting.
So well orchestrated... love how they play off each other, excellent...

Conocéis la composición del grupo en este concierto?. Ezkerrik asko. Thanks.
Perfect version of this song. That backup singer next to David looks like Susan Sarandon. Could it be?
It possibly could be but I don't know.
I just put my glasses on and got a close up and I don't think it is but she definitely looks like her.
Looks NOTHING AT ALL like her, for pity's sake.
Perfect is good enough for me
Thanks jo love you
This is a great song by the Velvets. Sung with great feeling by Johansson (so?)
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND is the most important the U S culture/music.great cover here!
Nice reminder of John Cale at the end with violin
Outstanding performance by one and all but the bass player is exceptional. Who is he?
The original is sung by Doug Yule, not Lou.
... when professional is NOT a bad word.
sweet stuff!
Its gonna be good with earl slick on guitar
