Now that I have been stilting for a while I can tell you that you can use this video and learn to stilt. I like to recommend learning at a baseball field. Nice fences to hang on to, nice grass to learn to fall on. Oh and for the love of god always wear knee pads. Straps can be made of anything. We've actually found really long pieces of fabric to work better than anything higher tech.
Excellent video. Never knew that I could create my own. Planning to create one for this halloween to act like a tall clown. What were the fasteners that you were talking about and where can I get them? i.e those that tighten the stilts to your calves.
What would they do, when they are falling and there is no way to stop, and you are not near something to hold. You have to fall on your hands or shoulder, or not? I mean, here it is 1m, but 2-3m could be seen, that must hurt a lot.
you have made my dream come true i wanna be a circus preformer when i am older and now i have my chance thank you a ton me and my dad are going to build these next weekend thank you thank you thank you you have given me the chance to start my life as a preformer also a thanks to my dad who rocks for being there for me and my strange dream
Very good video. These look very well made but I must say that they also look very heavy. Would these really be practical for using for long periods of time?
@Solowizard I bought them at O'Reilly auto parts. There were many kinds and varieties. They are called "trailor tie downs" or something. I don't remember the exact brand name or anything like that.
Thank you so much for the video they looked weird at first then i put them on it was hard i can say i followed your steps and now i can walk about 20 feet or more and turn around at the same time my Slender Man costume can now exist again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure he is using "Tie down straps". A type of ratcheting strap (webbing) used to tie down stuff on top of a car or in a trailer. Any box store should carry them. I hope this helps.
@443tito - Where ever he purchased them, I'm sure they're not called "tie downs". I wish he used the name they are called in the store. It'll make things easier when people go to purchase the parts.
Yeah I know, this video has many problems, It was just a project idea that we used for my video production class. I'll probably make a "Stilt Safety" video or a better one later this summer. I've fallen many times before and know what it's like. We had to keep the video under 5 minutes, which was hard. I should maybe put a disclaimer on this video.
I think your stilts are very well made. I am actually going to replicate these stilts for next halloween. I have a question. What do use to ratchet your legs onto the stilts?
As seen in other comments I have to give my props to Hyezmar and his Woodworkinh Bible. If you have the skills, you might want to look him up in google.
It sounded like he used what we call a "ratcheting strap". If you go to a hardware store and ask for one, or a car tie-down, you should find what you need.
@@lothi5287 Literally just finished building my own pair of stilts thanks to this video that was made when I was barely 7 months old. Boutta test them out once I get some ratchet straps. It took me about 1-2 hours to build, lol. Fairly easy.
These aren't so great for beginners. Maybe add handles and don't strap your legs to them when you just start out. That way atleast you can jump off instead of trying to catch yourself falling from that high with nothing but your arms. Great concept for more advanced walkers though
this type of stilt (regardless of if they are the best design) are entirely different than the kind you hold onto and jump on and off. sure, those kind can be fun, but they will not do a great job of teaching how to walk on circus stilts. the feeling is really different. for these, you really just have to get up on them, strapped in, hold on to something, and start walking. for beginners, you make them shorter, say 12in from bottom of foot to ground. that makes it easier for a person on foot to spot. these are quite tall...
Julia Halpin thats true, but still the other kind would help make me feel more secure when walking at more height. shorter stilts don't really capture the feel of the taller ones because of the difference in how you have to move in order to accomplish steps.
In it's native islands you have to start off as a short stilt- a few inches- then work your way up. Here you have to stay on them and jump and spin and go on one foot etc. But if you do it professionally then you can't have handles. But if you just do it for fun to walk around you can have handles. 👋 Have a good day :)
Those of you saying wear a helmet, you shouldn't be on stilts! You obviously know nothing about stilt walking. I only wear knee pads, no helmet. If you know how to safely fall, you shouldnt need a helmet

Doing this for my Lady Dimitrescu cosplay, no I'm not joking
Thank you for this! I've needed a good way to built stilts, and you just gave me one. :D

This is a GREAT video: both for content and professional-wise!! I don't think you ned to do any apologizing for any "problems", it was AWESOME!!!
Hi, would mind giving me the measurements and what kind of wood do u used?
Great thanks. But how would you pick something up from the floor?

What was that he used to strap his knees tighter to the stilt? I couldn't understand what he was saying.
what is the clicky thing you used to strap your legs to the stilt?
Thank you so much for the video they looked weird at first then i put them on it was hard i can say i followed your steps and now i can walk about 20 feet or more and turn around at the same time my Slender Man costume can now exist again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
doing this for my nasus cosplay, thanks!

Make sure you loosen them if they're too tight or tighten them if they're too loose.
The design can be build so much more simple haha!! But great work💪

Don't put your hand on the other side of where you're drilling. That's just asking for pain.
i love the stilts i tried to replicate it failed but i was wondering what the music was
This is excellent, thanks for sharing.
What is that strapping stuff your using to attach them to your leg? I can't really hear you in the video
i have questions how long of pieces of wood and what sizes and stuff just tell me all the materials
If I decide to make my own I'll use this idea thanks.
What did you use to secure the stilts to your legs, and where can I get them? :)
Stilts are so useful.
what is the size of the braces you made?
If you're gonna build stilts then you should have an extra 8" 2x4 you can use in place of a cane for added balance
What sizes of wood did you use?
where can we buy for the stuff for the binding?
do you have the legth or blueprint for these stilts

Ratchet straps. They're not that expensive, and you can pretty easily find them at any nearby hardware store.
Thanks! Now my slenderman costume can exist

Thank you!
Mine Too! Yeah! :P
It doesn't really matter if the drill bit isn't long enough to go all the way through.
Oh my god this was so helpful :D
Good video Bryan.
nicely done. Very informative
Its easier to on short stilts. Build short ones first then when you get proficient on those build some taller ones.

Exatamente o que eu queria aprender a fazer obrigado

Oh btw, ur video is awesome. Thank you.
