You didn't miscut your fabric Gayle... You gave yourself an opportunity to make a tall skinny journal 😂 I love these cover videos, I have a tub full of covers but I still make more. I'm a little slower than you putting them together. I think your most used Tim Holtz item is the Distress Ink 🤣Have a wonderful week. Hope you are both doing well. Love and hugs 🤗
The miscut fabric could still be a full-size cover! Just sew the pieces back together again, cut the cover-piece out so that the seam runs up the spine, and then cover up the seam with a strip of contrast fabric--easy-breezy!
When you use 2 envelopes and sew. Them together you could wrap the lace around the sides and sew them down as well to get ride of the ragged edges there
Just loved the pretty, spring colored fabric laying on your table when this video opens. I am already tired of winter and it's not officially winter yet.🙄 And, OH MY STARS, Gayle. I am Crazy for your hippy, dippy fabrics. A real feast for the eyes. What fun is to be had with those? If I were a stoner, I'd be all mellowed out and enjoying from another universe.😅😎 Drooling over all those gorgeous covers. Warm, sweet hugs Gayle.
Me too! And at 3am , that's not a good thing to yell! Lol. My hubby said, wake up, you must be having a bad dream. 😂😂😂 I couldn't stop laughing. The journal covers are my most favorite videos to watch
Good morning my dear friend, it’s a beautiful clear day today and our snow is all but gone after the rain we had. Such crazy weather everywhere, just makes me wonder what’s going on, oh ya, climate change. I can tell you this is not how winter’s usually are in Canada especially the more North you go. But it’s a beautiful morning and I enjoyed watching you and listening to your explaining how to make cloth covers for journals. You are a very good instructor and you make it look so easy. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge with us. I hope you and Mike have a wonderful week. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning. Take care my dear friend. God bless you and your wonderful family always. Your friend Cindy, from a small town in Northern Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
Morning Cindy! We got your snow! Just a coating, but it’s sure been unseasonably warm and dry here. 😬. Makes me nervous for fire season this summer! 😳❤
Oh my gosh Gayle....I was giggling so hard when you cut both pieces at the 14 inch and it took 5 cuts before the spare piece would separate....that would be a me thing!! You are so cute!! What an awesome pile of fabric journal covers!! That definitely will keep you busy next year!! I hear you about fabric making you happy....there are some fabrics that I have seen and some that I have that make me feel happy too!! The fabric you are using at 38:00 is so vibrant, pretty and full of life!! I could see a "Wildflower" digital kit being used in this one!! What a fun video!! As always, I appreciate you and TFS!! Hugs, Liz:)
ABSOLUTELY LOVE the eyelet in between the covers!!! Eyelet would look so cute on your 60s journal! Let me know if you need any. It's embarrassing how much trim I own! Lots of cute covers! They'll keep you busy for a while! Thanks for the video dear! XOXO❤
I Iove all of the fabric journals! I've found, from my limited experience, that I like using the 9x12 envelopes, too. They don't give you any trouble & are easy to work with.
Good morning and happy Monday Gayle! Beautiful fabric and beautiful covers! Look forward to seeing you do a 60s journal, I was in high school. Graduated in 69! 🩷💜💙🩵
Good morning Gayle. I can relate to not wanting to iron. If you just spritz your fabric with a little water it relaxes the fibers enough to take out the major kinks so you can get it glued down without such a fight. Just spritz, press down with your hands and let it dry for a few minutes. Thank you for all of the alternative methods. 💜
Good Morning Gayle, Happy Monday to ya! Beautiful covers and TYFS on how you do your covers again. Beautiful fabric and love how you coordinated them on your covers, Have a wonderful day too. 👍🎄🎄🎄
Well hello to you too my friend! I love these covers so much! I know you have an old book that you’re gonna use as a cover one day ( I think) that I really want . ❤~ Patti
Good morning Gayle! Watching you make covers is fun. I really like the Cathy Holden fabric. I also love the lace on the Samta cover. It is so darn cute! Take care. I will see you tomorrow. I love you friend 😊🤗❤
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who does this Gayle. I was so proud of a beautiful Christmas fabric cover I did only to realize that the kit papers I was going to use are wider and taller than my cover. Grrr. Major miscalculation. I put it aside and will use it later.
Good afternoon Gayle ! ❤️ I see a smaller spring journal (with birds on it) in our future. 😀 I like tearing my fabrics, and (more than once) had to ‘adjust’ the size of my cover and the journal because the fabric (usually the less expensive brands) ripped totally crazy wonky. (One of the down sides to buying fat quarters and not half yard.🙄) Crafting is an adventure. 😂 Enjoyed watching you get these ready. Hope you are warm and well and having a great Monday. ❤
I really loved this tutorial! It's so helpful to learn about covers. I especially love the slow stitched fabric covers! I have lots of batting left over from my quilting days. And fabric too! I'll have to wait til I get back to Michigan though. I'm making a journal for a friend for Christmas. Kinda nervous... Not everyone likes them. (That surprises me!) TFS🤗
You certainly were comprehensive today. Happy MMM Gayle! I'm straightening up the living room and installing drivers on my laptop. While I want you on the TV. Windows 11 installed itself on my laptop. And now it won't talk to my printer. I have had nothing but Tech issues for the last 2 weeks. It's driving me insane do that now❤!❤
Good morning Gayle!! I agree with everyone else...your "miscut" piece of fabric would be perfect for a tall skinny journal. Love watching you make covers, all of them are beautiful!! I've said it before, you need to list some of these gorgeous covers on your Etsy. 🥰 Have an awesome day...💜
Good morning 🎄Love these Cathe fabrics. The colors are so 60’s/70’s. The bird fabric will be a beautiful document journal. Thank you for sharing your process again for fabric covers. Refresher course is always appreciated. I also worked in offices for 40 years…a few different jobs but always in an office.
Good morning Gayle, I am so happy your journal covers, it’s my favorite to watch, especially when you are showing us how! I’ve learned so much from you on covers, thank you! All your covers are amazing! Thanks for sharing & have a wonderful day!🤗💜☃️💕⛄️🎄
We all know Gayle loves to play with paper but the love of fabric is hers too. Yes, I’m one of those that hyperventilates when I walk in Joann’s…..love love love fabric!!! 🎄❄️🎅🏼☃️🎄😁
These are wonderful and such a great idea to recover the mishap. I really love all the fabrics. I will certainly use these tips. Thanks so much. Have a blessed day.
This was so incredibly helpful! I love the look of fabric on projects but can’t sew to save my life. I finally feel confident to give fabric covers a try thanks to your tutorial!
Hi Gayle…..loved this video! Always love seeing tricks and ideas😊 I’m with you 100% on the no ironing…lol….I do use a wrinkle remover spray, and that works great. Have a wonderful day!
Good morning Gayle! You are a fabulous instructor Gayle! I’ve learnt so much from you, you directions and manners are always approachable and relaxed. Thank you for sharing! Hugzzz💖
Good morning Miz Gayle, just was thinking, all the corner & scrap pieces from the different fabrics from this bundle ... Rag journal cover could be created to make another 60's style... 💜💜💜 Loved ALL of this & appreciate the talent you share with us. Stay Crafty 💜
You could add an 1 1/2 of the button fabric to make an edge on both sides of the bird fabric. That would be really cute. It's never a mistake just a new opportunity.
I’ve been saving all my corners to make one of the covers with all the little pieces of fabric. It will be my first one so practice if I don’t like it but hopefully I will😉. I’m sad you cut your fabric wrong but in a sick way it makes me feel not so bad as I do that all the time😳🤦♀️ Thank you for sharing!
Good morning!! Beautiful fabric from Cathe Holden! I think one of your other subscribers mentioned making a tall journal with the fabric that was cut incorrectly, I think that would be wonderful! Very fun day today!😊 Have a good day!😁💕
Good morning Gayle. So excited to see this video. I’ve been wanting to try a fabric cover like these. I’ve done some using a paper bag and I’ve painted Amazon packaging but now I want to try these. These are all amazing!!!! ❤️❤️
Good morning Gayle ❤. Thank you for reminding us how to do the fabric covers. Now do one with paper. I did one with paper and I must have done something wrong because it warped real bad. Have a great day! 💕
Lol Gayle...I know you film in advance but I was telling you the fabric is directional...don't cut it... It all worked out though. TY for more cover ideas, & have a blessed day. xo
I love that journal that you made that Gayle has been working in. I couldn’t find your Etsy under Plum Creek Booksmith but yeah I finally found it by going to your RUclips and I just ordered your super cute digital binder clips. What a cute idea.
I have been enjoying re visiting a lot of your videos, kind of lost my mojo and have been sick a lot (disabled and chronic illness never good during virus season). Question for you what is your most current as of February 2024 way of doing a journal cover and second question do you sell your journals using the envelope method?
Good morning Gayle. Love all the covers ,they so pretty Could you use the other piece of the bird fabric and do a tall skinny journal cover or would it be to narrow.
Hi Pat! No, not difficult at all! If you search Gayle Agostinelli Sewing in Signatures, a ton of videos will come up with me sewing into all covers, including fabric. 👍❤
Hi Debbie! If you make sure your glue line of Fabritac is thin, it shouldn’t show through. No glops, because those will really show through. I use the tip of my glue to spread out any glops. Hope that helps! ❤
Yes, what Gayle said it has to be thin. What I do is spread it thin with an old gift card and then pat it down gently. I also don’t use it if the fabric is very light colored and very thin I’m just too afraid it will show through.

So helpful, and so needed. I was so confused about fabric covers and you really helped me. This is an awesome tutorial. Thank you ❤

Me too. Those birds are adorable.
Love the covers? Glad you saved the birds as they are my favorite!! The fabrics are so retro! TFS
I always enjoy watching what fabrics you put together for your journal covers. Have a blessed day!
