Ed has been making the soundtrack to my life since 2011. In 2018 my daughter was born and 2021 "=" were his songs about his life changing as a parent. 2023 I lost my daughter and this song tears at my heart. I have a feeling this will be my favorite album. Thank you Ed for helping me celebrate life's wins and helping me get through stuff I couldn't imagine ❤❤

Ed, this song has become my “Life Song” for a strange reason… whilst “eyes closed” stands for sadness and grief, “I keep dancing” bit stands for “I keep going” stuff, and I keep going despite to everything. Thank you for opening up, thank you for being my son’s hero. We’ve been to see you at O2 London on 25th, he’s only 4 and turning 5 on the 6th of April, his bedtime is 7pm so it was mummy’s huge gamble because he loves you! Since 3 years old he knows he wants to be “a guitar man”, Ive got some fantastic videos of him pretend playing his little real ukulele and singing your songs. He will be starting guitar lessons in two weeks. The teacher said they don’t teach kinds under 8 but once he saw the videos he said wow he’s so determined. Watch this space Ed! Mason is learning the very best from you and his biggest dream is to become “like Ed Sheeran”, he calls you “the best guitar man”. Lots of love to you and the family! 💙💙

Ed Sheeran was devastated when music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards died from a drug overdose on February 20, 2022. Edwards was an early supporter of Sheeran's music through the SBTV RUclips channel and they became close friends.
Originally written in the 2010s as a breakup song, "Eyes Closed" took on new meaning following the loss of Edwards.

"This song is about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and every thing just reminds you of them and things you did together," Sheeran wrote in an Instagram post.

"You sorta have to take yourself out of reality sometimes to numb the pain of loss, but certain things just bring you right back into it," Sheeran continued. "Blue was Jamal's color, but now is all I feel. And I guess music helps heal, so I'm dancing with my eyes closed to try get through it."
Sheeran previously mourned Jamal's passing on his song "F64," where he rapped a letter to his fallen friend.
Sheeran wrote "Eyes Closed" with Swedish pop hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback, and one of his go-to songwriting sidekicks, Fred Again. English producer Fred Again contributed to nine tracks on Sheeran's 2021 Equals album.

So for anyone who knows, this was filmed at the kessingland working men’s club in Suffolk, literally about a minute walk from where I grew up. For him to film there was a great suprise! For all the places he could record a music video! Oh and the local chip shop! He also done some recording in Lowestoft!
