An no - im not trying to sell you a BMW GS. I honestly do not care what you ride - for me, at this time - im loving this bike. If you just need to 'get somewhere', especially in the poor UK winter months - i struggle to think of another bike that does it quite as well. Plus, i feel attached to this one after the 24hr experience - she's like a friend to me now - a big, overweight and comfortable friend with cross eyes.
And - i still have the KTM and the blade so pretty much a perfect garage... until i have to sell one..

Pretty much. Texas drivers are the worst out of all of them though.
I guess depending on where you are, my driving test took twenty minutes. Had me drive down a highway, switch lanes, turn off, take side streets, park on a curb. However, the motorcycle test here is a joke, you just ride around the DMV building, then ride on a circle painted on the ground without putting your feet down.

I had a copper pull me over in the car for speeding in Gerrards Cross, we got talking about the offence and he noticed that I had a bike licence on the back of my card, we got talking some more and he asked if I knew who Baron was! when I said yes and we spoke about some of the videos, he let me off with a lecture and no points. Double Bloody lucky :D
The left lane is the same in the US but you can drive on it as a learner. Everyone just sits in though going exactly the limit. So if you want to overtake you tailgate and flash your lights or go into the right lane if it's open and rip by them. The American way LOL.
My commute bike is a MT-07 and for fun it's the S1000r, I have ridden a 1200GS and totally understand where you're coming from, it's an awesome bike and whenever you see people riding one you think they lead an exciting adventurous life!
I've passed my driving test in late 2014 and I see how not being on the motorway while learning and not incorporating aspects of the motorway discipline into the test can promote bad driving while on the motorways. However I also think it's unfair to say that no one would be educated in the rules and disciplines of the motorway at all because I think I am an exemplary motorway driver, not because of experience but because I was taught about lane and overtaking discipline in the dual carriageway aspect of the driving lessons and test.
It's just a case of adding more lanes (when you are discussing overtaking and lane discipline) and I think that it is covered in the current, regular modules of driving lessons commonly practiced by driving instructors :D But yes I do see what you mean! really enjoy your content Baron, keep it up!
Around Vancouver they even go so far as to slope the passing lane to make it annoing to drive in, as you have to keep constant pressure on the wheel to keep the car tracking down the road. People still prefer that lane.
Not surprised u bought the GSA, I recently did 1100 miles in the Scottish highlands on an SV1000 and was in agony for 3 days when we returned. If your 6ft plus the BMW is perfect, comfortable, powerful and it intimidates the cagers like no other. Those who don't like them either haven't rode one or can't ride them because their legs aren't quite long enough. ; (

Baron if you want a good winter bike, Kawi z1000sx. Dad has one and loves it, z1000 engine, adjustable screen, good kit, abs traction etc, power modes. Not as wide or high as the GS and still a comfy riding position. Just in case you would consider it ;)

I ride an old DL1000 and an older, like 1997 old TL1000S. I have a great laugh on the DL1000 with it's upright throw about bars, so I well understand you having fun on that huge GS.
I did some low light night ride testing with my Hero3 Black the other day, it's up on RUclips. Anyway my bloody god your lights make mine look like shiat.
Those GS's are really nice bikes, great all-around bikes and good for rackin up the miles.

Oh, people not keeping left totally frustrates me too... here (Sydney) it seems like if there are TWO lanes on the motorway, people are very good and generally keep left. As soon as there is more than TWO they all sit in the right or middle lane. Ergh.....

Driving lessons/tests certainly different in Switzerland. Quite a nightmare actually for a foreigner who isn't used to doing things the "Swiss" way.

HOLY SHIT !! I just realised you live very very near where i used to live.(don't worry i don't know "exactly" where you live so i can't and wouldn't give it away). I just watched this video and suddenly all those bits of lane,road etc from all the videos just fell into place like Tetras !! That area is responsible for me getting into bikes age 12 (it was very different then).We used to ride a variety of small and large(ish) and totally illegal bikes around the small tracks,lanes and a small town of concrete roads without houses (G.L.C. overflow estates in the early seventies). I used to cycle to school and go over the curly ? bridge and then at age 16 my parents moved the family far far away(sob sob). If you read a resent post from me i should have gone straight for the GSXR after what you said in this video about it's speed getting you in trouble. Wow that's strange considering your ramblings about chance and fate and the matrix, you living where i used to live !! Remembering all that and you living there just made me smile , god it was fun !!

Baron, I have just bought a GS, I have been thinking about getting a more suitable bike for the winter and touring. I have a k6 Gixer thou, which I have had from new and that has over 46k miles on it now. I love that bike and don't want to ever get rid of it and whilst I have done many tours on it, domestically and abroad, I fancied something more suitable. I have tried a few bikes but none came close to being enjoyable to the degree that the GS did, the MTO9 was fun up to a certain speed, but from the off I was not sure if my bum could take 3/400 miles a day, plus was not sure about it's luggage capabilities, probably not much better than my Gixer. The GS was ideal, nippy, comfortable and capable of carrying everything you need for a decent trip. I test rode a 2014 bike from Bahnstormer in Farringdon, I planned to ride down to the A272, across to Petersfield then up through Steep and through the fields back to Farringdon. I was hooked before I got to the A272 junction at Loomies.
I love my Gixer but I know I am going to enjoy this bike just as much, I pick her up at the end of the month. I haven't dome this to give up sports bikes, but to have a choice and to use the best tool for any given ride. Having said that the Gixer rides are most likely to be summer jaunts from now on. Never expected in a million years I would end up with a GS, but there you have it, it puts a smile on my face, just like my Gixer but for different reasons.
Could not agree more with you. Its like trying to use a screwdriver to pick a lock when you have a perfectly good key at home ;)... or maybe we are just getting old ;) Say hi to Al at Bahnstormer for me - actually, tell him you saw my video and bought a GS off the back of it ;) haha

In Australia we have signs and test on high way driving, Left lane unless over taking but people still do it. So they brought out a new rule allowing undertaking. What is stupid

Right about the sport bikes - you just don't know how the hell you've just accelerated to 90mph...in the city :) That's one of the reasons I've changed my sporty to V-Strom 650 which is extra comfortable and...smooth for a V unit.

It's shame from BMW that I can't fit it to my 2013 GS LC! My bike was made 2 weeks before they started adding new ECU and bits to support it. Looking forward to get my hands on XR...already put deposit on it.
I do miss these vlogs! I need Baron ramblings from time to time just to continue onward. Sad isn't it? Ah, aging is so much fun (NOT). Here in the US learning to drive is on the streets, but that doesn't make them any better driver, it just gives them a driver's license.

Same shit in my country, nobody taught us how to drive on the motorway. Then again, I can't get annoyed by people in front of me with my 1.3L Honda Civic so I stay in the first lane.

when i was 17 and passed my driving test i didn't do the pass plus (UK motorway driving and some other stuff) because i learnt it all from the many journeys in my dads car, so i now know how to use the lanes but if someone is in the middle i undertake them, full beam them and hold down my down as i fly by... Ive been driving for nearly 6 years now and learnt a lot, and realise that there are so many knobs on the road its not worth my time or effort, so i just sail by in the correct lane and hope they realise they're a terrible driver.
Guess you're recorvering if you can afford to buy a GSA, very good choice, once you go GS you never go back,trust me ! +10 000 km in the last 5 month on mine :)

I love motorbikes but I'm only 17 I've just past my driving test so I'm driving around but I really can't wait to start riding a bike there awesome! I'm a girl and when I tell people I love bikes I do get a few odd looks aha by the way your moto vlogs are great
+Mia Ross Something slow and droppable. You're statistically more likely to drop your bike given your age and even if you think that's BS and you really are the most careful driver, insurance will be a fortune. If it's droppable (like a dual sport) then it doesn't cost as much to fix.
I had a Honda NX 125 as my first bike, not very fast but really light and forgiving.

I totally freaking agree with you. There are only 2 types of lanes on a motorway, Normal driving and overtaking. I'll give you a hint on which one is the normal driving.. Yes its the one furthest to the LEFT! (unless otherwise signed) Freaking hate all these middle lane drivers.. what is becoming worse is the amount of "fast lane" drivers.. its soo annoying! Then they get all arsey when I undertake them, USE THE F*****G CORRECT LANE THEN! (this is coming from a car driver)

Oh man we have the same problem in Washington state especially with drivers in the overtaking (passing) lane here. I have had morons pull out in front of me doing 30 in a 60mph zone. Like wtf are you getting into the passing lane at all when you can't even do the speed limit!?

You want to try being an HGV driver. They just block you in or speed up when you try to under take them. Bloody muppets.
And before you start on not being aloud to under take, I'm fucked if I'm going to sit at 50 mph for miles.
i no its only a small conciliation but since i started towing trailers and driving high sided vans etc to tracks - i have a whole new respect for HGV drivers. Well, the UK ones anyway ;)

I ride a very heavy fazer 1000 and my age 46 I'm finding it a hand full at low speed. It's great at high speed and bad conditions but if I ever dropped it Id be in trouble.

Hey man, what about the other tradition, to think that lane 1 is for trucks, so I ride lane 2 at 50 mph, so the lorries, like mine, have to go lane 3, on M25. Trucks are limited to 54, if you cannot make it, lane 1 is your lane.!!!

Nah.. Thats why I sold my gsx-r 1100. It's just so insanly fast you don't even notice until you're going 100mph and start to think like: hey, lets try 3rd gear. Last ride with the gixxer i was doing 270~280 km/h past a speed-trap where the maximum speed limit was 80 km/h. I swear to god I thought I had shat myself. Somehow I got away with it but I put it out for sale the same day..
