Not actually though since youtube compression is a thing, also youtube will not accept a non standard aspect ratio without defaulting the video to 360p that why the crops a little weird. I'll upload the full sized files to the internet archive at some point so you can actually get "THE BEST POSSIBLE IMAGE QUALITY". TM* Till then cheers o7

When I think of the work they put into making this show back in the day this is the least I can do! Hopefully people will continue to enjoy this for many years to come. :3
What started as research for my OVA history video has taken me down the rabbit hole of Anime encoding and fansubbing, I hate myself. Thanks for the comment! I've learned alot since I made this so I'm hoping to do a V2 of this and 19NINETEEN since i recently found the laserdisc for that one.
The Alice in Cyberland is an interesting case though, seems orphan made a rip some time ago, I'll look into that further. see if I can track the source material down and make a compilation of all the available material like OST n such.
Apart from that I'd like to do an encode of Madbull34, since the available versions leave abit to be desired. Should have enough time to sit down in January/February to work on some of that stuff.

got the LD for vol 1 of alice in cyberland! seems like vol 2 never got an LD release but orphan fansubs released a TV rip which looks okay.
I'll try my hand at ripping the LD to see if I can get something looking good, as for what can be done regarding vol 2 im not sure. since I don't have the raw source there's limits to what can be done although it may benefit from some denoising and upscaling to get around RUclips compression.
I'll work on that once I get 19nineteen done.

Yeah, the second episode was rushed and so low quality that they never actually released it so... as far as I know raw footage of it does not exist. It was lost media until semirecently when someone found that recording of it.
I see why though, the second episode is not great at all. I really do love the first one though, more than I should admittedly but that's okay lol!
Really neat to see this translated and with all these improvements to the source footage. How did you get rid of the interlacing artifacts here?
Couple small typos, at 14:41 it says "sesnsor" which I presume is a typo for "sensor" and at 18:09 it has "you evil" instead of "your evil". Also, at 16:47 I think there is a line missing.
Thanks for pointing those out, I'll make those corrections in a couple days.
As far as the interlacing goes, what i actually did was render out 2 versions, 1 with bob deinterlace and one with blended fields. After noise reduction i brought both together with bob as the overlay.
Got cleaner lines compared to just blending the fields but was able to smooth out all the artifacts from just using a bob deinterlace. Abit of color correction is required from the overlay but worked pretty well in the end!

Definitely a good learning experience though, in terms of encoding there was alot to figure out from the DVD raws. In anycase its quite the rabbit hole I've found myself in.

If I understand correctly you used ReduceFlicker to get rid of the stuttering caused by the blended fields, thats smart!
This was my first encode ever lol theres alot I would do differently If I ever redid this, Mostly the idea for this was to just get a version out that had english subtitles that wasn't complete ass and fuel more interest in the OVA.
If you want I give you permission to Rip my subtitles from this and add them to your video, so long as you give me credit with a link too my channel in a pinned comment.
@@The_Smuggler_ Thanks! I will update the vid with the subtitles when I get a chance. I honestly didn't even see your vid until after I uploaded lol. I don't want to be the one guy who can restore stuff tho, I just want to raise awareness of the tools and methods that exist because there aren't a lot of resources that teach this stuff. Also, the line with ReduceFlicker is a separate version created to feed Srestore which it uses to remove blended frames from the main file.
No worries, I'm also of the same mindset. to think how many dusty forum posts I've had to dig through to figure this shit out.
This was the first thing I ever encoded, so this version is honestly a little embarrassing. my methods have improved considerably since, check out my recent LD capture of Nineteen19 if you're interested.
