    you have completely changed my life! I am on the way to recovery. Just yoga, light walking. Listening to my hunger cues. Meditating, getting my head out of my ass. Focusing on 3 consecutive periods before adding running back in my life. 8 years of collegiate running... starving myself.. depression... anxiety... HELL NO. NO LONGER! I am recovering. Examining my BS and fixing it. Thank you SO much for your videos.

    I love the fact that you addressed overeating / stuffing yourself. On the other side of the spectrum you have people who are advocating eating way too much and laying around doing absolutely nothing. That is not the answer either.

    Hi. I just wanted to let you know you are AWESOME. Just yesterday I stumbled onto your RUclips channel when researching why I haven’t had my period in almost a year. I have already learned sooo much from you in just one day and wanted to thank you for posting these videos 🥰🥰. I’m excited to recover from what I now know I’m suffering from, amenorrhea. Thank you so so much for your videos, they are saving me right now!

    A really good video, we all so appreciate the effort you put in!
    By the way I asked the question about phytoestrogens and I'm afraid I haven't explained myself well enough, because I actually meant phytoestrogens found in real food (I found they should be avoided during HA recovery and wanted to see what you have to say about it :))
    With that being said... I just got my period!!!!! ❤ (2 days ago) I want to thank you so much for all the videos you make, they helped me so much, I learnt a lot of things and I, most importantly, recovered! It has taken me a few months, but the serious stuff showed up to only need like 2 weeks, which is mad.. that's why I want to tell you girls.. if you're worried about going "full in" (which doesn't need to be too extreme).. don't be! It will then take so much less time to get to your goal of recovery. I personally didn't want to give up training, because I felt there just wasn't too much of it, which might have been the case, but after I completely stopped training for 2 weeks while eating enough (no real restrictions), guess what... I got my period! Don't be afraid.. put your health in the first place and remember, if it demands you giving up doing what you love, it's still worth it.. because the sooner you will be able to hopefully and more mindfully get back to it 😊

      Ah!! First of all, congratulations and thank you for posting that awesome message!! I could not agree more, of course. Remember to not change anything for at least three full menstrual cycles and when you do start training again: get back to movement, not disorder. Remember that HA is like frostbite...when you've had it once, it's much easier to get there again. Good work!!

    Thank you for this video. I love your honesty and openness about HA. It’s such a nuanced topic, and nobody’s recovery journey is the same. You talk about it with such passion and feeling. Thank you for all that you do 😘

    I adore you and your videos! Your honesty is amazing and very much needed.
    I think a lot of people want a set number of calories to consume simply because (at least in my case) I'm afraid that I'm overdoing it and eating too much, but I think your message of actually following your own intuition and letting your body guide you is the best advice. ❤
    Always looking forward to your videos!

    The reason I asked about “stuffing yourself” is because there are different ways to recover from HA. One group that I know recommends eating min of 2,500 cal a day and even though for me it’s not a problem as I’m hungry, there are girls that say they force themselves to eat even though they feel full and are not hungry, just because they didn’t reach the number of 2,500 cal on a certain day. They say they struggle, and then they feel sloppy, but despite that the specialist tells them to eat more. But in my opinion it seems like it might be harmful... undereating is bad, but overdoing it if you’re not hungry doesn’t seem like a good idea to me either. Therefore I asked about your opinion, and I see we agree on that. Thank you :)

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  5 лет назад +3

      It was a GREAT question and I totally get you! I agree that "forcing" feels like the wrong thing. That being said, there are times when we need to get used to what a more appropriate amount of food looks like/feels like to overcome bad habits. If that is part of it, I am ok with the idea of eating more than what feels comfortable, mentally...but, I don't believe that this process should be about hurting ourselves. Permission, yes! Punishment, no.

    • @eimearrosenicholl3734
      @eimearrosenicholl3734 5 лет назад

      Controversial opinion, but unless someone is really very tiny, 2500kcal is not stuffing yourself for an adult woman. If someone finds that amount of food a struggle, then I'd say that indicates a fear of a normal amount of food. The 'feel sloppy' comment is a dead give away- that has nothing to do with feeling physically full, but is more an expression of disgust at the amount of food consumed, because they are in fear of a normal amount. When I had HA and overtraining, I was eating around about that amount of kcals and still losing weight, it's really not a lot of food especially for an athlete. In addition, if women want to get back into competitive sport post recovery, they will ordinarily need to eat a lot more than that again. So the fear of eating that amount of food needs to be overcome before there is any hope of returning to sport in a healthy way.

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  5 лет назад +3

      Let's remember that a lot of this is subjective and there is no one opinion or method that will work for all. We all come here from different places and we will all exit through different doors. The important thing is to share support and compassion...not only for each other, but for ourselves as well!

      I have a long history of Anorexia,and have attempted recovery innumerable times,but the illness creeps back in so insidiously,I don't notice.
      My best recovery route was Baileys and tiramisu. Then came the fateful time I discovered IIFYM. Embarked upon a "clean recovery",consuming only bro foods for lean body mass gains. The upshot being,I was forcefeeding myself (after incrementally increasing calories for 2 years) 3,000 calories daily in potatoes,rice,100g protein,steel cut oats,lentils etc.
      My weight dropped back down to 7st 9lb! Did not gain any body fat whatsoever,nor did I build any lean body mass...to cap it all,the sheer volume of those foods caused permanent damage to my stomach,to the point i have lost all means to gauge how much to eat. I cannot feel anything whatsoever anymore.
      So,my advice would be,don't force it.
      Go for the tiramisu and Baileys.
      My body did not gain any more fat than it needed to and it all went away by itself when I managed to eat faithfully and dependably according to hunger and satiety.
      These feelings are two luxuries I will never know again in this lifetime.
      I bitterly regret being an asshat,thinking I could be smarter than my body.
      I am grief-stricken over my stupidity.
      Now,I am faced with yet another recovery,brought about by lacking the ability to tell how much to eat.
      I under ate and overtrained,and the prospect of navigating my way out of this one terrifies me.
      I apologise for the TL;DR post.

    i watched all these girls who got their period back, but most of them were underweight or overly exercise. While me myself, i am more on the heavier side on the BMI scale (170cm with 73kg), i only do light yoga twice a week, but i do eat so little (i do one meal a day fasting, and maybe only eat less than 1000 cal per day). I always have trouble with losing weight, i always eat less and less but my weight fluctuates easily. Yo-yo weight. Until suddenly i lost my period for 2 months now.. Do you think bigger girl like me also have to gain some more weight? or actually i have to lose more weigh to reach a healthier BMI?

    Hey Jill,
    I have a couple of questions. So I’ve been working out consistently for the past few months. I typically work out every night form 7pm-8pm including running, HIIT, and I just started incorporating strength training into my workouts. Up until the past few days though I had been eating a calorie deficit (1,200 calories roughly) and I’ve realized that isn’t enough to properly fuel my body so I’ve upped it to around 2,000.
    However, it’s been over 70 days since my last period and I’m concerned about when it will come. Thing is, I’m so happy where I am physically and the last thing I want to do is to stop doing what I’ve been doing and go backwards (lose muscle definition, put on weight, etc.) but I know I need to get my period back! I don’t know what to do or where to start and am feeling overwhelmed. Was hoping you could help out. Thanks in advance,
    God bless

    Jill I have a big problem !
    I struggled with amenorrhea for a long time , got my period back but cycle is still irregular . In 3 months my school will have a test where everybody has to run a certain track and it will be very important for my overall grades also I don’t want to embarrass myself . I’m not very good in running so I would have to train the next months :((

    how far did you have to overshoot? and how long until it tapered back to normal? Im committed to this, but I have grown up naturally lean and my body feels best at a relatively lean state (health-wise not aesthetic wise) I am naturally a small person. In this process I have far overshot my pre-amenorrhea place. I am committed to fixing this, but I don't want to feel unhealthy forever, and I'd like to know that theres hope of returning back to my normal healthy place

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  5 лет назад +2

      Hello! I do not and did not weigh myself so it would be impossible for me to give you numbers. I am sad that it seems that you view weight gain as unhealthy. If you have gained weight as part of a recovery process, it means that your body truly needs this and you are on the path to health. Many women report that their weight returns to more or less what it was before they got into an energy-restricted cycle. There is no telling how long the process takes, only that any efforts to restrict while the body is healing will jeopardize all of the good work you have already done. Being patient with yourself is important! I invite you to also take this time to look inward and remind yourself of your worth, your value, and your gifts...irrespective of your body. If we are always looking to "go back", we will have a hard time going forward. Sending love!

  • @simplyv8430

    See I could just listen to the GP who informs me (without any kind of investigation) that "it's just the menopause".
    Or,I could face reality head on and go all-in.
    The longer I prevaricate,the worse it'll be.

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  4 года назад

      It's important to listen to your intuition. You said above that your "reality" is the need for recovery, so that seems like a clear choice!

    Sorry but im not speak English (I'm Spanish and I am 15 years old)
    But, by the way, I want to tell you my story and how I lost my period (I'm still haven't).
    All of these started when I was 13 years old and i'm started to obssese to how I look, I'm started to counting calories, macronutrients, and eat less than before, maybe like 1200 calories per day o maybe less because I aproximated the calories for example if I eat 900 calories I think that maybe I eat more, and for security I add 400 calories more in my head. I know it:s stupid but in this moment that are my thoughts.
    And also I training a lot, I was in a dance studio like 1 hour 5 times a week, and when I come to my house I do 1-2 hours of cardio or hiit or weightlifting.
    And I remember that I was so exhausting, and sad I even can't smile, it's so hard remember that...
    But then I stopped I try to eat more, but I fall again...
    That was like 1 year, I eat more (2500 calories) but I do the same amount of exercise or maybe more!
    And i'm said: What is wrong with me! I eat more but I still haven't my period.
    So the last week or maybe less (9th of may exactly) I watched a page that I think that will changed my life (I really hope so), Homedynamic method recovery.
    The thinks that I cut is stop over-exercising, I dont exercise (for me its hard but I know it's for a good reason), I eat more and more and more( I dont counting calories, I just eat What I want and when I want), I rest and rest
    I really want to recovered I know it's hard but I have so much energy to realize that.
    Thank you so much for read me, I hope your doing well❤️
    Again, i'm sorry for my English I am not very good
