Soooooooo good, Jill! After 9 1/2 years of HA, I recovered and had two more babies. 💕 Now after finishing nursing, I just had my sixth cycle in a row. All of this is so very true and such a good reminder! I still watch it very closely.
Thanks Jill! My period returned when I quit running, started walking the same # of miles, and added vitex (chaste tree berry), 5-htp, seaweed, more protein, and more fruit. Actually lost 5 lbs. Cortisol inflammation and water retention! 2 periods in 2020, hoping I get it next week. I love ALL your vids, thank you
Right on time as always Jill! I started to recovery (for real) like a month ago and I feel so overwhelmed due to the many changes that my body is experimenting, the weight gain, the clothes that doesn't fit, etc. But now I can sleep like a baby, my mood has improved, my relationships are getting stronger, I feel so much happier now and I'm relearning to enjoy many things again. When I'm afraid to "eat so much" or "to test that long", to keep going and trusting this process and my body, I remember all of those positive things and I think "This is worth it". Thank you for this video, I really appreciate it
During recovery from HA I’ve actually gained muscle mass, which is funny to me because I’m not lifting weights but I’m eating lots of food to fuel my body throughout the day.
Ive driven my body to complete burnout twice believing I can push my body as hard as I want and just beat it into submission and force it to do whatever I want. Im starting to accept maybe thats not true. I just kept telling myself to stop being weak and keep going.
Hello! So interestig. I have had HA for 6 years. long story short, i over trained for many years. I ran 22km 4 times a week, and obvously under eat. I broke my hip 2 months ago so I decided to go all in 1 month ago and gain 5 pounds already (i was al ready in a 19.5bmi) so know im in 21 and is very unconfortable. I don´t know what to do or what to eat so I can feel confortable. I just need someone to listen (read me). Thank you
Hi Jill, I know you’ve said you don’t believe there is ever a reason to count calories in recovery and there’s some controversy over a specific ‘minimum’ recommendation. But...I just wondered, in your experience, is there some validity to it. E.g. My hunger cues aren’t very reliable so if I eat to satiety I might not feel hungry for very much at all. Hope that makes sense?!
Even if you are not sure if you can rely on hunger cues (which is awesome to recognize, by the way) counting calories doesn't help you tune into body signals. It only externalizes a process that must come from within you in order for you to be successful long term. A better alternative is to schedule in meals and snacks along the day and commit to eating even if you're "not sure" if you're hungry. We NEVER force feed, we NEVER skip meals, we do not injure ourselves with food. We set ourselves up for success by planning ahead and following through with the goal. Confidence comes from practice and consistency...with eating too! It may take some time, but you'll become an expert for sure :)
@@jillcolangelopsych +1 and don't forget that mental hunger is also hunger. Maybe your stomach isn't growling, but are you thinking about food? Would you like to partake in meal with others even if you're not super hungry? I never had HA, but I did experience a short period of severe restriction (during a dangerous camping trip in the adirondacks), and my physical hunger cues have been messed up ever since. I almost never feel hunger in my stomach, but I like food and I eat whenever I think about eating (which is sometimes like all day, other times not for hours). Obv everyone is different but you don't have to wait until you feel physical hunger to eat! And eating to satiety (true, honest satiety) and then NOT feeling like eating for a while is OK too!
But how do I know if I’m overtraning? I have had an ed for a while and I’m on a healthy but low weight. I don’t know if my period doesn’t come beacuse of my weight and diet (like if I’m eating too little calories/fat/carbs) or if it’s my workout? I watch 10 min workout videos on YT 5 times a week & they are not hard for me to do, so I won’t say I push myself so hard at all. But is it too much anyway? As you said, I’m scared to loose the muscles and the body I have build so that’s why I keep exercis although I know I don’t workout that hard so my muscles will grow anymore, but I don’t want ti loose what I already have. Sometimes I take walks to. Sorry for this long and messy text but do you or someone else know if I don’t get my period beacuse of my weight and food/or my exercise?🙏🏻
There are lots of videos on this channel that explain Overtraining Syndrome (which is different than "training too much". However, if you have ED, that trumps everything else. Be aware that the information presented is aimed at the athlete/exerciser who does not have a diagnosed ED, but has disordered eating tendencies that have led to poor health outcomes. This information is not meant to replace or redefine eating disorder treatment. I hope that you have access to quality ED care and suggest that you closely follow the treatment protocols :)

It means we respect ourselves enough to stay on top of it :) Congratulations on two healthy pregnancies!

It is SO worth it! I am sending you all the support in the world as you learn to trust your intuition and heal :)
All points are so true! You actually said out loud and clear my cloudy thoughts 👏🏼
Love all the generalizations !
This is SOOOO true!! I'm planning to start studying a second career now! Because I have time, I have energy, I can connect thoughts. It is great!
YESSSSS!! Awesome!!
Number 5 really hit me. I sometimes feel so limited in what I can do.
Same! I’m like... “eh .. this is me - forever 😅” and I find my anxiety level spike exponentially when there is some trouble , when before I kept cool
Awesome video! Absolutely enjoyable to watch. Thank you for being so bold, honest, and informative, as usual.
Thank you so much!!
