  • Martha Mitchell, wife of President Richard Nixon’s Attorney General, John Mitchell, was gaslighted by the Nixon administration for whistleblowing during the Watergate scandal. Director and editor Anne Alvergue and Co-Director Debra McClutchy join Andrea Mitchell to discuss their new film, “The Martha Mitchell Effect.” Alvergue says “the parallels to today's political climate are so uncanny so it was a perfect time to examine her story.” McClutchy adds, “She was privy to some of the dirty things happening. We don't know exactly what she knew, but she knew things that were going on and she was willing to speak out against the most powerful government in the world."

Martha Mitchell became famous because she was the most prominent RIGHT WINGER to speak out, but she wasn't saying anything more than what Liberals had been saying for months/years prior. She was not an innovator or a Joan of Arc. It's akin to how we're supposed to see Pence as a hero because he wouldn't go along with Trump's insurrection plans. Mitchell was saying what many Americans had been saying loudly for years, similar to how Pence was doing his simplistic job of reading 2 paragraphs in public about the election results.

Martha was saying what millions of Americans had been saying for months prior to her saying it. She's newsworthy because she was a prominent Right Winger who said what most Americans had been saying. She was not innovative or insightful, but yea, a bit brave for speaking out loud while being a Nixon insider.

@@reddyguntuku1024 No. being separated is a personal matter. A divorce is a legal action. You can get alimony without being divorced. In any event just because you file for divorced doesn't mean it's a done deal. A judge or court has to say you are now divorced. Until that happens you're still married.
