  • Grandmaster Chiu Chi Ling (趙志淩) demonstrates the rare Hung Gar (洪家) weapons form: Butterfly Mother and Son Paired Knives
(wu dip ji mou seung dou 蝴蝶子母雙刀).
This video was shot at the KungFuMagazine.com studio in conjunction with the photo shoot for "The Iron Rings of Kung Fu Hustle's Tailor" article in the July+August 2014 issue of Kung Fu Tai Chi.

So I’m seeing a lot of comments on here talking about Grand master Chiu chi Ling. First off he’s 77 years old, the spirit is willing to continue but the body is not, old age slows you down and those who think that this won’t happen to you, think again. Second, he’s been doing this way longer than anyone compared to those who just go to a mma gym or kung fu classes for a couple of days and think you know better. This man can teach you more kung fu than anyone else.

mehhhh what's up doc ?! If this, 'master', would've really practice his art, the true gift that was given to him, if he would've kept nurturing his art, his form, his health, we would be able to see his grace flowing in his movements, but we don't
I was exhausted just watching him. He may be old, he may have any king of health issue that we don't know about, the matter of the fact is, this totally lacked grace, completely, but I guess 'technically' speaking, the form might've been close, but he sure wouldn't have past the test and get a master title with this performance. There's no point in pitying the man. Nor am I misjudging him, it's simply not top notch and that's it, no diss, no lies.
The fact of the matter is, the grace of this art takes a never ending long life training, focus and devotion to actually truly bare the title of 'master' eternally. And certainly, in this day and age, we live such an array of distractions that such true masters are extremely rare on this rock, let alone seen by any eyes or lens.
Most humans are completely clueless of the self investment required to achieve just half of what we see in movies and such. And even less are truly personally aware of their own Chi and its flow and have no clue what is around and inside them, as if they were seeing life in black and white and didn't know about any colours their whole life.
There is a lot to the spectrum of life that will remains hidden for most humans throughout the millennia as it always have been. Interestingly enough though, it's just right there under their nose and 'accessible' to anyone who wants and wills.

Sifu Ling does this for love not money,,,he is a great Hung Gar Master from way back in the day. Please consider the mans age a 70 + and the guts and consideration to do this form in the first place. Imagine what how he would execute at 21 years of age in his prime. He did this for you and me grasshopper. Sifu Ling still travels the world teaching Hung Gar intensives. I have so much respect for this guy,,,.Most men half his age retire ,sit in an easy chair ,drink beer and croak watching reruns of "Bonanza" ,,,not this guy,,,,this guy will die practicing Hung Gar Kung Fu,,,,Thank You Sifu Ling

Shame on anybody daring to insult this great master. Kung fu is not only about fighting there's plenty of philosophy and medicine in it.
You don't see men moving like this at his age, he is performing amazingly well and gracefully. Looks can be deceiving but if one chooses to look deeper into it you can see that there's structure and flow in his movements thus showing that he is indeed skillful.

People may try and minimize his demonstration here due his age, but I say to those people what my Sensei asked me many years ago: “would you want to fight an old tiger or a young tiger?” I said, “well, an old tiger.” He laugh and said, “boy, old tiger or young tiger, it’s still a tiger!!” I said, “yeah, what the hell am I thinking about.”😵‍💫 GM Chiu Chi Ling is a real tiger!😀 I hope he practice up to his very last day. The spirit is willing but the body grows old and weak. Wish I could have seen him do this form in his prime. The hard styles have a way of wearing your body out and you have to find softer alternative fighting methods because you reach a point where you body just won't cooperate with your spirit's desire. For me as I've gotten older and slower, I bought a gun. To old and to slow to fight, just shoot them and be done with it. Most they can put me in jail for is twenty years. I'll be dead long before that.
