    I loved this so much! As a child I had Samantha and her collection (89-92), but I received Kirsten one Christmas as well. I never collected anything beyond the doll, and now this video is convincing me I need to. I appreciate her Scandinavian aesthetic and storyline SO much more as an adult than I did as a child!

      I appreciate both Kirsten’s and Felicity’s collections sooooo much more now that I’ve seen them in person! I love that it’s not just tons of stuff either, so it’s achievable to own everything!

    Oh my goodness, the previous owner took FANTASTIC care of everything!
    With the actual needles included with the sewing sets, I don't think kids were necessarily better behaved, I think it's just that if they *did* prick their fingers, their parents were more likely to just go "well you should have been careful" than actually complain to the company. At least, that's my experience ^^;

    • @idreamofjonny
      @idreamofjonny  Год назад +8

      Ohhh yeah that’s a good point haha. No internet to run to and complain and leave a bad review 😆 I was so impressed with how well cared for this collection was! I’m jealous she got to have all this stuff but I love knowing how much she clearly loved everything

    • @alisonmcgregor2002
      @alisonmcgregor2002 Год назад +4

      also i think pleasant company figured that the american girls collection was aimed for slightly older children, like 8-12 or something like that. therefore, older children are less likely to get hurt because they are more careful since they are older

    Ugh I’m so jealous! She’s so beautiful! If you take requests, I’d love an in-depth video of pleasant company doll variations with comparisons. Like a dreamer eye up close to a regular white body eye. Or Kirsten’s tinsel hair compared to standard.

    There are dreamer Samanthas too. They were the ones where i learned what a dreamer was.
    I have a Kirsten from circa 94. She doesn't look like other Kirstens. I'm not sure if there is a variant from that time - she doesn't have a super chubby face and her irises are really big. I think she had tinsel hair too, but her wig was in dire straits. I convinced myself when I i was a kid that I would be able to rebraid her hair and took it down, and it went downhill from there. I didn't know how to care for her hair when I i was a kid and it got so dry that I eventually tried to cut the dry ends off... But I rewiged her as an adult and kept her originally wig and the hair sparkles in the sun.

    I have Molly that I got NIB from American Girl Place Chicago when the store opened back in late 1998 - November or December. I'm not sure what the copyright is on my doll but she has bubble eye. I'll have to go an look at some of her clothes and stuff to try and figure out more what the copyright is. But I know I bought her in person. Don't think her box or body has any year marks. I'll have to check the tags on her clothes or accessories in a little bit.

      I will likely be selling these pieces on one of the Facebook groups (probably the one called The Vintage Corner). I’m actually opening a shop soon, so that’s where I’ll ultimately sell things. But for now I list things on Facebook because there are no selling fees 🙂

    she’s really cute, I never knew what a dreamer doll was until now, thanks for teaching us (or me) new things lol. I went to look at my kirsten, but she’s not a dreamer, but she does have soft vinyl and soft lashes, idk what that means though 😅. love yah ❤️!

      I’m still looking for one! They are really hard to find. I am going to do a 1991 catalog flip through shortly though. Fortunately most of the images in the 86 catalog were used through the early 90’s, so we’ll still get to look at the original images!

    I just looked and don't see any dates on my Molly! I know I got her in 1998. But the tag says "made in Hungary"
    Also looked at my Samantha which I know I got in 1993. Her dress copyright says 1986 but it doesn't have the paper tag like I've learned from you. Does say west Germany.
    Did just want to share!

    I own an original Molly with several Original pieces in her collection I was already a doll collector and knew that she and the rest of the Pleasant Company catalog was something special.....i was taught to take care of her so no I don't think we better behaved in the 90s but I do think that OUR parents valued rare and nostalgic things more so than they are valued today so we were taught to care for those things,,,,,,, to answer your question I would smash legos to bits but I treated Molly and everything associated with her as if she were a Goddess LOL

    Awesome! I feel obligated to keep my Kirsten who was given to me by my late grandmother, but the Dreamer Eye Kirsten is so cute. I feel like the price is justified. My Kirsten was probably early or mid 2000s, and she has bubble eye. So even that late they haven’t gotten it sorted. I’m too scared to mess with her though lol.

    • @idreamofjonny
      @idreamofjonny  Год назад +2

      It is kinda nuts how long silver eye was a problem. We’re talking 10+ years! It’s so nice you have a sentimental story with yours. I don’t have any of that so I just chase rare stuff lol

    • @alisonmcgregor2002
      @alisonmcgregor2002 Год назад

      yeah when DID the silver eye and bubble eye problem become resolved? like in what year? i might’ve seen a few 2000’s mattel dolls with silver eye before, but i don’t think i’ve seen many. i wanna collect american girl dolls one day but i’m concerned about that because fixing silver and bubble eye seem SO challenging and idk if i could fix it myself😬or i could just look for dolls that don’t have that at all lol. but still, what year or what time period did the silver eye and bubble eye defects stop completely? also do they happen to modern american girl dolls too? like from the 2000’s and early 2010’s? (i don’t think so but i’m a bit curious 😅)

    • @idreamofjonny
      @idreamofjonny  Год назад +4

      I was with my partner for 17 years before getting my first doll, so I didn't have to worry about someone making false judgements about me. I can see why someone wouldn't want to divulge it first thing when getting to know someone because of the amount of misconceptions, though. Personally, I would rather be single than with a partner that got the ick from my interests. People that are judgmental of this stuff tend to suck overall usually, so it's not a big loss.
