    The shaker shud be attached to the carbaretter hence it shakes when the engine is running

    A nice car that for the right price, I would probably enjoy. That being said and as the other posts here point out, it’s not a 455SD, the shaker hood scoop isn’t going to be shaking too much in its current configuration, he talked about the scoop being functional but it looked sealed to me, the welting on the aero pieces was either black (as opposed to correctly being body color) or missing altogether. Unless I’m mistaken, there was no decal on 1974 front bumpers. Not trying in any way to show off my useless Tans Am trivia knowledge, just mentioning this because the video is misleading and otherwise detracts from what is probably a nice car to own (and brings into question the seller’s credibility and knowledge). Assuming the car remains on the lot, maybe redo the video.

    I DROVE AN ORIG '73 ONE A REAL ONE, for 2 city blocks IN 1981. SHE ONLY HAD 36,000 miles. Tony (the owner) told me there were only 118 made with the 455 HD & the manual 4 spd for 1973. I remember to this day every second of watching the hood shaker shake. Tony may have had too much fun one day, bc he stated that it took him 2 MONTHS, in 1981, and a State away in Wisconsin, FOR $235.00, to find a Left side exhaust manifold, which had Cracked.
    The next day after I got to drive it, Tony got gas at my corner gas station, I was so in love with it, I ran out from the cash register with a can of oil heading for his back tire! I threatened to pour it in front of it so he could do cool burnout. He said "Don't do it! Not needed." Well since the gas station was situated at a 45 degree angle to the corner there were two exits directly off from the pumps. Soooo when he started to leave he stopped, stepped out and told me to "Watch this!" HE FLOORED IT OUT INTO THE STREET AND GONE. He laid down 75 FEET of rubber for both tires evenly. So much smoke I couldn't see the car after only a few seconds! Simply Incredible

    I owned a 74 White 455 when I was 18 yrs old. My daddy had a fit the day I drove this car home. He took one look and said, oh no little girl, my driveway is not big enough for a hotrod like this. I said, It's mine and It's staying. Not to long, daddy drove it to pick up my mom from work. He came back and said, If I had of known that this car would fly like it did, I would have made sure you took it back. Yeah, sold it right before I got married. So wished I had it back. Loved it!!!

    This car has been heavily modified. I'd want to verify it's a real SD and not a "tribute" car. At minimum, it has an aftermarket carb and (I think) intake, incorrect air cleaner and engine trim. The "Trans-Am" decal on the nose is incorrect and - if it's an SD-455 - so are the shaker callouts.
    Also, this guy is a Guido. Anyone who talks about Pontic "big blocks" clearly knows nothing about Pontiacs. A 455 is externally the same size as a 326. The differences in displacement are made by changing bore and stroke.

    • @jamesmktdriver3885

I was buying new cars almost every year back then. I went from 73 lemans, 75 trans am,76 Catalina wagon withe 455 in it. The trans am had to go after our 2nd kid. Couldn’t even get a cooler in the trunk to go on a picnic.

  • @lysanderspooner4143
    @lysanderspooner4143 3 года назад +2

    This car is obviously modified and I'd question whether it's a real SD car. Minimally, it is missing its SD 455 Pontiac intake and carburetor as well as the air cleaner. Check the VIN and the stampings on the block as the price difference between a standard 400, optional (non SD) 455 and the SD -455.

  • @lysanderspooner4143

    I had 3 Trans Ams... a 1970 with the Ram Air llll....370 hp...stock. my1971 had the 455 HO..335 HP stock....my 1973 SD 455 was rated at 330. The motor alone how he describes this is all wrong...the SD has a specific grind far differant that the Ram Air cam in any stage from 3 to 4. The SD has a stronger bottom end with 4 bolt mains and oval port heads...stronger internals is the main reason for the SD....The Ram Air 3 and 4 400 cubes kade more power by far. But the SD could be pounded on relentlessly without breaking parts.

We hadnothing as stylish for the general public to buy back then, except the lets pretend sports Coupe Ford Capri. Oh if only thesecars were available over here back then, I reckon they would have sold well. They do have a kind of cult status over here nowas I've seen more of them at Car Shows than any other American car, except maybe the Corvette.

    Gm got out of racing in 65 and didnt let any of there cars other then the Corvette or large cars, have an engine larger then 400ci until 1970, after that the limit was off for all product lines, thats how they got the 455. By 74' muscle cars were dead and dying and almost all the major bigblocks had been killed off. While the 455 was strong it was only strong compared to what was out in 74, comparing it to 71 pre 71 it doesnt hold up. Doesnt help that the blocks would crack past 600hp, no nitro.
