The 2016 car isn't terrible, but the movie was..
Not really surprising considering the '59 weighs about as much as an Aircraft Carrier....but I'd still own one in a heartbeat.
To be fair, the hearse Ecto-1 is a much newer model than the ambulance Ecto-1. One was built in the 80's while the other in the 50's. Makes sense that the 80's model would be a bit faster, given that by the time it was designed and built, technology have evolved enough to allow for a more efficient and stronger engine and a lighter body.
I like both cars, but my all-time fave is definitely the original Ecto. The hearse Ecto is not really that bad-looking in comparison. It was just very unlucky to be in a bad movie.
This was a crappy video. If the original was the one that the movie studio and Sony had completely rebuilt, it was laden with all kinds of gear, heavy chromed old school parts, sirens, electromechanical parts, electronic props and an extensive sound system added, it even had an old style gurney placed in the back.
This doof showed nothing of all of that (interior) of either car, scant views of even the exterior details.
The new one certainly had none of the extensive treatments and attention to detail, and surely used LEDs, plastic props, etc.

@@LEGOJediMaster No. The 59 was built so it could be either depending on the customer's needs. The 81 was built strictly as a hearse.

I mean the 1984 one is from ‘59 Cadillac and the other is a lot newer so it would have had a lot more horsepower
The '59 Caddy has a 390ci engine rated at about 345 gross hp. Assuming the '81 carries the largest available engine for 1981, that means it's a 368ci rated at 145 net hp.
`59 Caddy ambulance weight almost 2 times more than `81.
@@seppopaananen8495 I don't know the exact weight of the modified cars, but I would assume the '59 is much heavier than the '81, certainly.

The engine in the 59’ actually produces more horsepower as someone has already stated. The newer Cadillac, even in almost two years after the fuel crisis of the 70s, was still plagued by emissions control problems and the fact that at the Cadillacs were being bought by people who couldn’t care less about horsepower. The lighter weight and “improved” aerodynamics (probably not but giving it the help) is what the newer caddy has as it advantage over the older’s more powerful engine.
I feel so bad for the remake car, isn’t it’s fault that it was in a terrible movie.
That car, the 1981 Fleetwood, reflects the contempt the creators and actors of the remake have for the original. 2016 is an ugly whore of a film designed solely to exploit and cheapen an American cultural icon not for any reason of merit, but to forward leftist social propaganda of inclusion and representation at the expense of literally everything else.

Yea. Kind of reminds me of the guy who did Jason in the 4th "Friday the 13th" film. He didn't really want to do it. The content of the film bothered him, but he needed the money. And to add more interest, the Director of that film was especially abusive to the cast. And at one point, 'Jason' told the Director to cut it out, or he would walk off the set immediately.

You were pushing almost FOUR TONS of steel in the original ECTO 1 while the newer one is almost 1/2 ton lighter, and those older engines really didn't see their peak in performance until the late 60s early 70s, they were still making improvements to them
To be honest, I love both cars.
I'm with you on that. The 84 Ecto is a classic, but I really love the 16 Ecto's style (to paraphrase Winston) - that red panelling is fantastic!
The real version vs the gross dumpster fire. Doesn’t matter who wins, the 1959 is the genuine version.
the 2016 ecto 1 looks boring. The 1984 ecto 1 looks so good though
Shows the difference between gross and net hp ratings. That 390 only had 304 GROSS hp, if that newer hearse had a 307 olds that was rated at 140 NET hp, which was probably around 200 gross hp.
The '59 Ecto likely weighs over 3.5 tons, the newer one probably around 2.5 tons. Since every 100lb of weight gained is generally equivalent to losing 10hp (all other factors being equal), the win is practically guaranteed to the newer caddy, particularly because the newer car has a 4 speed automatic with a very low 1st gear.
Its too bad someone doesnt make an "ecto-3" based off a 94 to 96 commercial chassis. Those had the (underrated) 260 net hp LT1 motor in them and would smoke either one of these barges.
That did not have a 307 olds in it. It has a 455 buick
You should have used the sirens if they worked since 1984 but I don’t think the one from 2016 has a siren but still really goof cars

The 2016 Ecto 1 was a pitiful prop. You can tell there lack of enthusiasm in that build.

Dude you can only get the 1959 Cadillac up to 60 because the cars chassis is 3 tons because cars back then were made of metal compared to cars today.

The one from the 2016 movie is atrocious and I’m not saying that cause the movie sucked, it’s just unappealing, I’ve seen other versions of the ecto-1 besides the 59 cadillac and the more square and boxy the car is the worse it looks, it just tends to look better with rounder more retro looking cars but newer modern day cars can look good as well as ecto-1 as long as it has a more round-ish design to it, the squarer cars of the 70’s and 80’s don’t look so good as ecto-1 replicas

@SHAWN CHRISTIANSON Yea. We certainly know it's not the original ECTO ONE. Either they bought a new one and dented and rusted it up.Or maybe they were able work some artistic magic and put rusted and dented up parts on a new vehicle. (I would hope the second.)

I visited the Volo auto museum with my nephew about a couple years ago about this time. It was fun and got to see a lot of things. Especially the classic car museum and the Hollywood car museum. We both had fun and someday go back.
I knew the 59 wouldn't win because engines got better over time so the 81 would naturally have a better and faster engine than the 59

Its not the engine in the case of these two ecto ones its the things on the roofs that slowed things down get a normal 59 cabie get a normal 1980 herse and race those cars
