I played against it with izzet phoenix. Cool deck, but I felt it lacked a way to close the game strongly, plus it's relatively easy to disrupt assembling the combo.

It's not. Removal is relevant against this deck which makes a huge difference.

I'll consider playing Pioneer when Deathrite Shaman becomes playable. There's potential with Tyvar, but getting cards to the graveyard is a challenge.

Deathrite may be good in some sort of ramp deck considering if you play it with lotus field and arboreal grazer you can have 5-6 mana turn 3
