Only way to sell junk and get away with it, is to sell it as a full restoration project. This include private sellers as well. Odd they don't have these laws in Usa as they seem to sue people for just about anything.

It’ll need rocker panels, quarter panels and trunk floor extensions. I remember cars In Michigan during the 1970s where they would rust away within the first 5 years no matter how much you washed and waxed them. The body would rot long before the engine would fail. Some present day Mopar restorations are done to perfection, in reality the build quality of the original Mopars was horrendous.
Yeah I have had them all here in Michigan, big block and small block six pack cars Hemi car Etc. Being a Michigan person all my life I have run into so so many issues with vehicles. In reality growing up here in the 1970s taught me all the things that is in this video. Very few things will ever get past me when I go look at a car. The one I have now gorgeous as a Michigan car. If you want to obtain a better body vehicle, seek out the former drag cars that spent their entire life at the strip. Many of them have been crashed and had doors and fenders and front Clips replaced, so you have to look for those things also, but overall you will get a more solid vehicle by far because the thing wasn't being driven in the salt or being parked out beside a barn for 25 years. My father always said let the buyer beware... True and honest words. Look very carefully before you plunk down purchase money

Everyone looking for ANY CAR from this era must remember number 1 thing . They are 5 decades old & very few examples will not have some issues . Very few . This hobby is expensive & you're knowledge must be extensive!!! Learn before you burn . Get as much education on stuff as you can before you even think about buying. It is a lot of work, and a whole lot of headache to take a rat vehicle, and restore or even just drive it as it is! Set your goals on what you want. If you want a very nice ride then you're going to need a very nice fat wallet. Information is your best armament oh, and it will save you a hell of a lot of money and headache before you buy. This is your BEST video yet! It was very informative with lots of great tips. A good follow up would be to give some ball park figures of what it would cost to repair these typical problem areas based on a worst case scenario. Better to guesstimate high on the repair costs. Thanks again for a GREAT video which should help a lot of people looking for their dream car and help them avoid a nightmare.
Back in the late 70's and into the 80's it was common for the leaf spring shackle to go through the trunk on those Mopars. Many went to the junkyard because there was nothing left to weld onto. Some of the repair jobs were hilarious.
Two main companies on the east coast that did rust proofing back in the day were Z bart and Rusty Jones. I worked for a company out of Harrisburg, PA that used carnauba wax with a fluorescent dye formula to prevent rust in new cars. They sold the dealer I worked for a black light and the spray gun with attachments. No holes were drilled. the stuff was sprayed into the body weap holes until you saw the green dye show up around the points where water would come in. The warranty was useless because the company went belly up in about 5 years. They paid me $6.50 an hour and the cans of wax cost the dealership $20 a can. They charged the customer $300 for the service. A big car took 2 cans and a truck was suppose to take 3 cans. The dang shady dealership I worked for cut both of those down and still charged the $300. They are no longer in business either.
I have never come out ahead on a car deal , because if you love cars , you can not flip them like a commodity. Today I own what is my last old car, A 1978 Chrysler Newport , 360 cid , 904 torqueflite. At age 67 , failed health, my car days are over ! My last hotrod was sold last January at a $1500 loss, it was a 1998 Lincoln Mark Vlll ,cobra V8 and fast , I cruised I-15 for 4 hours at 100 mph at 3500 rpm.

I always think of the old guy in the movie Christine when he says brand new windshield wipers on a busted windshield, you know papa you just can't polish a turd lol.
People always bring me cars to check out after they've made the purchase. ..... and after I tell them they were ripped off they want to know how much money it will cost to make the car right....ugh ! So you'll shoot someone who takes your parking spot but the guy that just nailed you for 20k he gets a pass ? LOL it bees crazy ! 🍻

Well a car worth 8.000$ dressed up for 3.000$, sold for 40.000$, had to be fixed for 20.000$. I'd rather buy a rusted Rat than a "restored" one. And BTW a story from me and a yerk: I once wanted to buy a "original car ,no rust, not welded, 2nd owner car ,accident free, regular dealer service, low mileage". I called the guy we talked , my friend took me there and this guy said we had to go to the garage he parked it. Well 1/2 hour later at the garage ,there was a second guy waiting to purchase the car too. We get in this dark Parkhouse where the Dusted car sat. The other guy cheked it asked questions blabla... I got to check the car while these two were negotiated after I was done I asked him my question: Why is the passenger door different colored with different trim and not opening/shuting correct? Why is there a Gigant dent in the Passenger Rocker? It's accident free. Why are there rust holes in the Floor? It's rust free. Why is the Rearvailence welded? It has not been welded. Why is there a 4th owner in the Service sheet's? It's 2nd owner. Why are there servier more miles in the paper work than on the odometer? It's low mileage Why are there not matching Seats? should have bucket seats in the front matching the Rear Seat not some cloth ones in different color and material. I told him he is a Scum and what a lier he was, he wants to discus it but I left, The other guy aint as knolwedged as I bougth this turd for 1.000 and you could see on his face he apparently wasn't glad buying it after I revealed it's condition. The callout were 2.500 for it at the beginn I would 've paid 750 if he wouldn't lie. BTW. The car got back on sale from this other guy some months later with painted door and with all the other mangles I revealed.
Great video for new car guys.Hacks were very common in late 70's early 80's when I started out no reproduction parts for Mopars back then. My first car was 1969 Superbee b5 blue $100 in 1977 found in a impound lot. Then 1978 bought 1969 charger black 4spd with at least 1 gal mud in rt quarter you learn fast how to find bad hack work. I sure wish Chris and RUclips had been around 40 years ago when I turned 16. I'd saved up my money and bought a Charger. I spent the next 11 years saving up money and fixing it myself without always the proper tools. I loved and hated that car. Beautiful, but man did I get took!

Dude they are are 50 year old cars and depending on where they are from and how they are taken care of most are going to have rust issues. unless they washed the car all the time and kept it in a garage or on a cement slab out of the weather they won't rust but to park them in the grass where moisture comes out of the ground and leave it under a tree or in the rain and weather and drive down dirt roads and off road it's going to have issues

Hi Chris 😎 . i've been a mopar nut since age 5 starting with the General Lee and that a whole other fan obsession and then just exploded from there. My first car at age 18 : 1965 dodge dart 4 door. Then at one point bought a used and abused 74 duster then sold thatband had a 1976 plymouth volare premier 2 door. For a few years then my final vehicles that i have owned for the past 10 years 1965 dodge 2 door post car " project" 1982 dodge d150 truck . i a big fan of pretty much all charger body styles but 68-70 are my favorites. I live here a couple miles south of branson mo. My buddy and his wife run dixie outfitters in branson and own 2 General Lee's . I've wanted to own a charger to build either a movie blade car or the General Lee i can come up with the parts : motor , suspension ect but the chasie is another issue . i know of a mopar guy about 45 miles northwest of me that is obsessed with B-bodies and B-body parts . he elped build the General for my buddy a dixie outfitters. I also follow fellow friend Jed over at scotts speed shop and Uncle tonys garage and Nicks garage. I like your videos especially this one for when buying muscle or project mopar cars🤘. Great tutorial for those who don't know where to look and what to listen for. I even learned a few things. Just found your channel when the triple black charger video popped up. I just sold a '69 Coronet grill, all the original chrome trim, reflector bezels with the reflectors in them, the headlight adjustment bowls and finely the inner tail light portion. Outer part was broke. Great videos!!!
I recently found a running 1970 340 4 spd Duster , (VS- H code), for a good deal, 7K. When I saw fuse box hanging under the dash and a sea of splices, rubberized paint used everywhere, E-body steering column, E-body bucket seats, and many other red flags, I passed it on to others. An acquaintence bought it anyhow on his own 2 feet. Now, guess who gets to fix this frankenstein? It is coming along, but soooo many wannabe mechanics have done their magic # on this car. I made up a nickname for those who won't use proper hardware etc......Coffee Can Mechanics, (Use whatever is in the Folgers can, if you are out of baling wire). We are gaining on it however, slowly.......like they say, look REAL CLOSELY, before you buy. I can't say this enough............

it took me over a year to find my 92 Mustang LX 5.0 HB. I called on over a 100 looked at dozens and had the cash at home ready. I finally found the one it had been posted less than 20 minutes. If you want it, you got to really look for it. Great video thanks.
The best place to find a charger. The junkyard. Right where they belong. And if you do happen to find one there. Leave it alone. You don't want to disturb it and its natural habitat.

My personal low point was a Challenger with a freshly-painted 340- with overspray on the plug wires. The top of the engine had been repainted while it was in the car. Couldn't quite believe it.
Hack jobs been going on forever. I remember when a guy in the neighborhood ( around 1976-77) drove around in a perfect condition 1970 442 W30. In about 6 months it was nothing but a rust bucket, gallons of bondo and fresh paint on junk.

Really helpful video and most of that stuff applies to any older vehicle. Always good to bring car buddy that’ll look at it with a critical eye too. Buyers can get too excited about finally buying a car they’ve been waiting for and will blow off the faults.

Ive bought a few turdsters back in the 20th century. I knew better. A well polished turd can obscure your vision especially when its springtime and the turd has been freshly done and it looks pretty slick and the T/A's on 5 spoke chrome big and littles give it a perfect stance. I did get my revenge 10 years later.sold the grandson of the guy that sold me my 67 RS/SS super pooper a nightmare of his own to bring home and park for months at a time as it rapidly melted roofing tar and pools of rusty water settled in the saran wrap and pizza box floorpans.give me bondo and a couple rolls of foil and ill make you a showstopper for about 2 months.

"Bondo is not your enemy", I totally agree, if weren't for bondo and primer most of this cars would be lost forever, only few people can afford to not use bondo, even in the USA.
G'DAY Mate , well done Chris this is a very good video , you have shown the pitfalls of buying into an older model vehicles , the area's you have shown are common on most makes and models ,this is a excellent guide for those people that don't know any better , I have bought cars like this , but I knew they were rusty and where they were , but this gave me leverage ,on the sale price ,and because I knew the faults i also knew roughly how long it should take to fix , and the cost of said repairs. You have a new subscriber! GREAT video. Been rebuilding a 69 charger for a guy I know. That was pretty much in the same condition as this one. 600 hours of work only for the metal work.. $$$. The guy ended up selling the car before it was done, because he got sick and tired of all the money going into that restoration. Sad story.

In Michigan there are two kinds of cars.. The ones that were stored away in Garages in the Winter.. and the ones that rusted away and went to the scrap yard.. I bought a Z-28 Camaro in 1979 . I did drive it two Winters.. some in MI some in Colorado and some in FL & LA.. I had it Ziebarted.. I washed it a lot .. I can't really see any rust on it.. but I cut the wheel wells out to put wider ties on it to win the Spector drags at a local circle track ..
OOF... that is indeed a polished turd. I will admit I purchased a '70 with a few issues but I paid accordingly and these were communicated up front as it's a driver/project car. That headliner was just..... wow. Great video!
Years ago a friend of mine bought a 73 Roadrunner that he paid a shitload of money for.I went with him to look at it and to me....the car was 2 gallons of bondo…..my friend got so mad at me when he claimed the guy said.....no bondo in this car.He bought it and it rusted out in a year.It did hve a nice black interior though......lol
i doubt you'd piece together many chargers that have done a jump, the self implode pretty bad, good to see that the jump guys are reskinning crown vics with 69 panels for the jumps.

messylaura Auto metal direct produces a lot of panels for these b-body cars, but I'm not sure what percentage. I am not a body man, but did restore my third Mopar in the late 90s. Which was a 70 Roadrunner, and had quarters available for it way back then
Great job! Most of what you show in this video applies to any older car (like my GM A body) so is good resource for anybody thinking of buying this sort of car. It also makes me realise how lucky I was when buying mY "toy" car as I had the opposite experience i.e the more I looked the more I realised the time and money had been put into it. Thanks

I once wanted to buy a "original car ,no rust, not welded, 2nd owner car ,accident free, regular dealer service, low mileage".
I called the guy we talked , my friend took me there and this guy said we had to go to the garage he parked it.
Well 1/2 hour later at the garage ,there was a second guy waiting to purchase the car too.
We get in this dark Parkhouse where the Dusted car sat.
The other guy cheked it asked questions blabla...
I got to check the car while these two were negotiated after I was done I asked him my question:
Why is the passenger door different colored with different trim and not opening/shuting correct?
Why is there a Gigant dent in the Passenger Rocker? It's accident free.
Why are there rust holes in the Floor? It's rust free.
Why is the Rearvailence welded? It has not been welded.
Why is there a 4th owner in the Service sheet's? It's 2nd owner.
Why are there servier more miles in the paper work than on the odometer? It's low mileage
Why are there not matching Seats? should have bucket seats in the front matching the Rear Seat not some cloth ones in different color and material.
I told him he is a Scum and what a lier he was, he wants to discus it but I left,
The other guy aint as knolwedged as I bougth this turd for 1.000
and you could see on his face he apparently wasn't glad buying it after I revealed it's condition.
The callout were 2.500 for it at the beginn I would 've paid 750 if he wouldn't lie.
BTW. The car got back on sale from this other guy some months later with painted door and with all the other mangles I revealed.
Great video for new car guys.Hacks were very common in late 70's early 80's when I started out no reproduction parts for Mopars back then. My first car was 1969 Superbee b5 blue $100 in 1977 found in a impound lot. Then 1978 bought 1969 charger black 4spd with at least 1 gal mud in rt quarter you learn fast how to find bad hack work.

I sure wish Chris and RUclips had been around 40 years ago when I turned 16. I'd saved up my money and bought a Charger. I spent the next 11 years saving up money and fixing it myself without always the proper tools. I loved and hated that car. Beautiful, but man did I get took!

Dude they are are 50 year old cars and depending on where they are from and how they are taken care of most are going to have rust issues. unless they washed the car all the time and kept it in a garage or on a cement slab out of the weather they won't rust but to park them in the grass where moisture comes out of the ground and leave it under a tree or in the rain and weather and drive down dirt roads and off road it's going to have issues

Hi Chris 😎 . i've been a mopar nut since age 5 starting with the General Lee and that a whole other fan obsession and then just exploded from there. My first car at age 18 : 1965 dodge dart 4 door. Then at one point bought a used and abused 74 duster then sold thatband had a 1976 plymouth volare premier 2 door. For a few years then my final vehicles that i have owned for the past 10 years 1965 dodge 2 door post car " project" 1982 dodge d150 truck . i a big fan of pretty much all charger body styles but 68-70 are my favorites. I live here a couple miles south of branson mo. My buddy and his wife run dixie outfitters in branson and own 2 General Lee's . I've wanted to own a charger to build either a movie blade car or the General Lee i can come up with the parts : motor , suspension ect but the chasie is another issue . i know of a mopar guy about 45 miles northwest of me that is obsessed with B-bodies and B-body parts . he elped build the General for my buddy a dixie outfitters. I also follow fellow friend Jed over at scotts speed shop and Uncle tonys garage and Nicks garage. I like your videos especially this one for when buying muscle or project mopar cars🤘. Great tutorial for those who don't know where to look and what to listen for. I even learned a few things. Just found your channel when the triple black charger video popped up. I just sold a '69 Coronet grill, all the original chrome trim, reflector bezels with the reflectors in them, the headlight adjustment bowls and finely the inner tail light portion. Outer part was broke. Great videos!!!

I recently found a running 1970 340 4 spd Duster , (VS- H code), for a good deal, 7K. When I saw fuse box hanging under the dash and a sea of splices, rubberized paint used everywhere, E-body steering column, E-body bucket seats, and many other red flags, I passed it on to others. An acquaintence bought it anyhow on his own 2 feet. Now, guess who gets to fix this frankenstein? It is coming along, but soooo many wannabe mechanics have done their magic # on this car. I made up a nickname for those who won't use proper hardware etc......Coffee Can Mechanics, (Use whatever is in the Folgers can, if you are out of baling wire). We are gaining on it however, slowly.......like they say, look REAL CLOSELY, before you buy. I can't say this enough............

it took me over a year to find my 92 Mustang LX 5.0 HB. I called on over a 100 looked at dozens and had the cash at home ready. I finally found the one it had been posted less than 20 minutes. If you want it, you got to really look for it. Great video thanks.

The best place to find a charger. The junkyard. Right where they belong. And if you do happen to find one there. Leave it alone. You don't want to disturb it and its natural habitat.

My personal low point was a Challenger with a freshly-painted 340- with overspray on the plug wires. The top of the engine had been repainted while it was in the car. Couldn't quite believe it.

Hack jobs been going on forever. I remember when a guy in the neighborhood ( around 1976-77) drove around in a perfect condition 1970 442 W30. In about 6 months it was nothing but a rust bucket, gallons of bondo and fresh paint on junk.

Really helpful video and most of that stuff applies to any older vehicle.
Always good to bring car buddy that’ll look at it with a critical eye too. Buyers can get too excited about finally buying a car they’ve been waiting for and will blow off the faults.

Ive bought a few turdsters back in the 20th century. I knew better. A well polished turd can obscure your vision especially when its springtime and the turd has been freshly done and it looks pretty slick and the T/A's on 5 spoke chrome big and littles give it a perfect stance. I did get my revenge 10 years later.sold the grandson of the guy that sold me my 67 RS/SS super pooper a nightmare of his own to bring home and park for months at a time as it rapidly melted roofing tar and pools of rusty water settled in the saran wrap and pizza box floorpans.give me bondo and a couple rolls of foil and ill make you a showstopper for about 2 months.

"Bondo is not your enemy", I totally agree, if weren't for bondo and primer most of this cars would be lost forever, only few people can afford to not use bondo, even in the USA.

I have bought cars like this , but I knew they were rusty and where they were , but this gave me leverage ,on the sale price ,and because I knew the faults i also knew roughly how long it should take to fix , and the cost of said repairs. There is one thing you definately do not do , buy cars at night.

You have a new subscriber! GREAT video. Been rebuilding a 69 charger for a guy I know. That was pretty much in the same condition as this one. 600 hours of work only for the metal work.. $$$. The guy ended up selling the car before it was done, because he got sick and tired of all the money going into that restoration. Sad story.

In Michigan there are two kinds of cars.. The ones that were stored away in Garages in the Winter.. and the ones that rusted away and went to the scrap yard.. I bought a Z-28 Camaro in 1979 . I did drive it two Winters.. some in MI some in Colorado and some in FL & LA.. I had it Ziebarted.. I washed it a lot .. I can't really see any rust on it.. but I cut the wheel wells out to put wider ties on it to win the Spector drags at a local circle track ..
OOF... that is indeed a polished turd. I will admit I purchased a '70 with a few issues but I paid accordingly and these were communicated up front as it's a driver/project car. That headliner was just..... wow. Great video!

Years ago a friend of mine bought a 73 Roadrunner that he paid a shitload of money for.I went with him to look at it and to me....the car was 2 gallons of bondo…..my friend got so mad at me when he claimed the guy said.....no bondo in this car.He bought it and it rusted out in a year.It did hve a nice black interior though......lol

i doubt you'd piece together many chargers that have done a jump, the self implode pretty bad, good to see that the jump guys are reskinning crown vics with 69 panels for the jumps.

messylaura Auto metal direct produces a lot of panels for these b-body cars, but I'm not sure what percentage. I am not a body man, but did restore my third Mopar in the late 90s. Which was a 70 Roadrunner, and had quarters available for it way back then

Great job! Most of what you show in this video applies to any older car (like my GM A body) so is good resource for anybody thinking of buying this sort of car. It also makes me realise how lucky I was when buying mY "toy" car as I had the opposite experience i.e the more I looked the more I realised the time and money had been put into it. Thanks
