Hi, Mike. That’s a nice M.2 adaptor card. I'm still quite happy with my Sabrent version. I have a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus mounted on it, and I keep it cool with a Corsair Hydro X Series XM2 M.2 SSD water block. I know I said wasn’t a fan of Corsair, but it was the best looking M.2 water block.
At least it has a standard screw for mounting, as opposed to that weird "notched" puck design. I'm still trying to source one of those as I'm missing one. But no idea what you call it.

Mike, I have a question, I've got Asrock Z87 Extreme4, 3 pcie slots, 1st is used for GPU pcie x16, if I put adapter to 2nd slot GPU slot will be reduced to x8? If yes what happen if I would put adapter to 3rd slot? I guess in SLI with 3 graphic card there is x8 x8 x4, with two x8 x8 but if I put to third slot adapter there will be x12 for GPU and x4 for M.2? Or it even would not affect first slot GPU speed?
Useful piece of kit! Though I dislike the fixing mechanism of the included M.2 cooler. Would a different cooler, like the Be Quiet MC1 PRO fit on this adapter?
Very good video, congratulations !!! Is it posible to use, utilize or take advantage of all the 16 trails of a PCIe X 16 port ? I ask because most adapter like the one of your video are only X 4 so that use only 4 of the 16 trails which are available in a PCIe X 16. I think that that is a considerable waste of resources which brings not desiderable consecuences !!! If your mobo has PCIe 3 or 4, well ... maybe that´s not an important isue. But if you have an old model which only has PCIe 1 or at most PCIe 2 then there is a big difference in using only 4 trails and to be able to use 16 trails !!! Can you give me any hint on that ? This takes the hassle out of things as you can try one card that's only occasionally detected until you restart the machine, then left wondering which one is reliable.

Always good to have one of these in the old toolkit should you need to clone or back up a drive onto an M.2. With it being Gen 4 might be worth leaving it in your mobo and use it as a boot drive should it need it. At this price Id rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Sadly my b450m pro 4 only has two pcie 3.0 slots. One is for my gpu and the other is the pcie nvme slot. Sad to see the adapter/drive not fully utilized but at least I have more storage at decent speeds.

Just came into this. I brought an Asus Hyper not doing what I was getting myself into. Returning that, and came into this video and product. Do they by chance make a quad version of this? I'm sure I'll find out shortly, but I'm hoping the installation is similar to this as it being a plug and play sort of thing.
Couldn't find one that is pcie 4.0, this cheap and with a heatsink. I'm highly debated on it because of the bare metal bracket, rather than anodised or painted. My only complain since asthetics is very important for me, I blame OCD.

Hi Mike - Great vid, thx! Ive run into an issue. Wonder if you have a comment? My Dell XPS8910 desktop was OEM setup using RAID. I don't use any RAID features but Ive tried two of these style cards and they are not working properly. The SSD drive is not visible anywhere. Not via Disk Mgmt, Device Mgr, or Windows Explorer. However, BIOS is seeing the SSD card details which is in the card. I am thinking that the BIOS needs to be changed to AHCI. I think the RAID settings are not letting the card pass the info properly. Any thoughts? Thx DD
Just installed this with my msi b550 gaming plus (which looks like you have the same board) with gpu and both the standard m.2 slots filled. Computer doesn't seem to be reading this adapter. I'm assuming maybe not enough bandwidth with a gpu + 2 m.2 nvme ssds in there already? (trying to add a 3rd nvme with this adapter)

I just purchased this adapter for my 2TB Firecuda 530 and the adapter itself has excellent built, but the heat sink is beyond very poorly design in both aspects, aesthetically and how it performs I very much dislike the rubber bands and clips, they are hideous. Running CrystalDiskMark test in very well ventilated case my Firecuda without the heat sink have reached 59CC, with the heat sink 57C-58C, very poor. I have tried another adapter with slightly larger and better mounted heat sink and MAX temp was 46C which is a big difference, but I didn't like that there was no bracket, it wasn't very sturdy so I returned both. If they made a slightly larger heat sink with better mounting e.g. maybe 4 small screws at the back and also If they made the bright red light to go on only when drive is in operation, this adapter would be top notch. I wouldn't be using those metal clips. They would result in impedance bumps which could cause problems. My el cheapo card sits at 40C without a heat sink and gets around 3GHz read speed. Thanks for the info m8, I didn't know such a thing existed. I'll be able to make my dinosaur run even faster. 🙂

best my foot bought it the bios didn't recognized itv but it installed the linux mint 21 from a 3.0 USB flash in the M2 from the card with a 1tb crucial m2 mvme on a Pcie 4x on an asus montherboard hero VI mobo in use a 500 tb WD black instead to run Linux worst fine. I will trough this card away in the trash .

The whole reason for buying a pcie gen 4 adapter is to be able to use a gen 4 M.2 on it at gen 4 speeds. So, this product IS NOT capable of running pcie gen 4 speeds? If it was, why wouldn't you showcase a gen 4 m.2 and show THOSE Crystal Disk figures, instead of a gen 3 m.2.?

Precisely the reason why I bought mine; my motherboard PRIME Z590-A has 3 M2 slots, only one of them capable of gen 4.0 speed, other 2 are just gen 3.0. Gen 4 capable disk runs twice the speed that is over 7000 MB/s. Also Gen 4 capable disk in this adapter runs only around 3500 MB/s. Disappointing. I put it in x4 slot. Is there a setting in BIOS of mobo? any additional driver?
I have and old mobo (scocket1366) and am i trying to install windows 10 in expansion card with NVME M2 2TB. I received message that "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure That the disk controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu" Can i bypass this using WinNTsetup 5.2 ?

it will depend on the board you are using, a lot of boards share lanes in different ways and also your CPU will also come into play depending on what amount and type of lanes it has available
Depends on the CPU. Most Desktops CPU's have 16 pcie lanes, Higher end CPU's have 28 to 40 pcie lanes (Intel X99,X299), Amd threadripper have a lot more. As mentioned, The PCH will mess with the allocation On some motherboards.

no the clips are really tight the rubber would be too wide and the clips would not go over the band and drive, but good thinking

so far there are not any mainstream nvme drives that use more than 4 lanes so for a single drive card that is more than enough

yes the advert for that is a little confusing but it seems the motherboard nust support bifurcation of the PCIe bus

yes it won't support the systems software / hardware raid and AHCI should sort that

it doesn't block it much as it is quite narrow, if you are concerned use a lower slot or a PCIe extension cable to move it lower

m.2 nvme is much faster than m.2 sata or regular sata drives

The whole reason for buying a pcie gen 4 adapter is to be able to use a gen 4 M.2 on it at gen 4 speeds. So, this product IS NOT capable of running pcie gen 4 speeds? If it was, why wouldn't you showcase a gen 4 m.2 and show THOSE Crystal Disk figures, instead of a gen 3 m.2.?
because i had a gen 3 drive. Also the reason for a gen 4 card could be for a bit of future proofing

Precisely the reason why I bought mine; my motherboard PRIME Z590-A has 3 M2 slots, only one of them capable of gen 4.0 speed, other 2 are just gen 3.0. Gen 4 capable disk runs twice the speed that is over 7000 MB/s. Also Gen 4 capable disk in this adapter runs only around 3500 MB/s. Disappointing. I put it in x4 slot. Is there a setting in BIOS of mobo? any additional driver?
EDIT: mounted in 2nd PCIe x16 works 6700 MB/s, gen 4.0 speed = OK
Maybe you should remove sticker before you apply thermal pad ?

yes that will definitely be a problem. Maybe an external USB enclosure might be a better choice if space is limited

I have and old mobo (scocket1366) and am i trying to install windows 10 in expansion card with NVME M2 2TB.
I received message that "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure That the disk controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu"
Can i bypass this using WinNTsetup 5.2 ?
some boards won't support add in cards as a bootable drive, maybe look at updating the motherboard bios if possible

it will depend on the board you are using, a lot of boards share lanes in different ways and also your CPU will also come into play depending on what amount and type of lanes it has available
Depends on the CPU. Most Desktops CPU's have 16 pcie lanes, Higher end CPU's have 28 to 40 pcie lanes (Intel X99,X299), Amd threadripper have a lot more. As mentioned, The PCH will mess with the allocation On some motherboards.
