- • Full wet at Palmer Mot... - previous laps
This happened on a race track (Palmers MA) in a HPDE event. Rain intensified in the course of a lap and standing water developed on the straights. Previous lap was fine under the same speed. Stability control was on and saved the day.
On brand new Michelin Pilot SuperSports high performance summer tires.

"Well done chap, good placement of the hand upon the steering apparatus. Most splendid. Might I also add, if I may, I couldn't help but notice your excellent posture and positioning as you seat yourself upon the throne of your chariot. Bellisimo. Why, the footwork on it's own is the work of fables, ballads, and epics. It goes without saying, your modifications are up to spec as well. We needn't speak of it."
Made me laugh thank you
Thank you. I bet you half of these idiots only having training on Gran Turismo with a damn controller
Hahaha underrated

Seriously, 90% of the hurr durr people in the comments would have crashed in an instant.
Only thing I would know to do in this situation is let my foot of the gas and pray
Man I’ve been on track in heavy enough rain that corner apexes changed every lap based in the size of the puddle sitting on it. Great save, hoped the poo wiped clean off the seat without too much scrubbing.

Nice correction but idk why you’d try that when it’s wet. I’m scared to even do the speed limit when it’s wet
Being scared might save your ass without even noticing it.
Well that’s city driving in cars that aren’t really in the slightest built for high speed traction, f1 cars race at the limit in the rain often, rain is actually seen as a great equalizer in a race because it really tests the driver more than the cars and it kinda blurs most of the advantages that could be given to any particular other car because people are driving based on the traction coefficient not necessarily sustained high speed.
Edit: But in summary yeah I’m one to like to drive fast, but I still won’t ever push it in the rain, in less than awful conditions on public roads I’d still never go over 60 in a straight line and no more than 45 on a bend, even that’s fast for a road car with good tires, in the rain on public roads going fast is dangerous not just for obvious reasons but in particular because your limited to your lane in terms of your lines, you’d need at least 1.5 - 3 lanes worth of room and no traffic to ever dream about going any faster in the rain without traction loss, on public roads most driving techniques are waived just by the lack of room to do them, you also just can't predict people.
@@robbie_s.u.a.y ur just being pussy got the vw fox round bends at 85mph damp conditions
@@efdbjon2114 here i updated the edit, that should make more sense for ya...
Im not saying i wouldnt drive fast in the rain, im saying not on public roads... Never often anyways not where im at. The comment is just to give people a clue when it comes to the rain, my car is capable of a lot of things, but i still lost the rear end on an on ramp doing 45 in moderate rain and its very prone to hydroplane at over 60 if its raining enough. Most road cars don't run 300+ size tires or a tuned suspension, whatever the body, even with good tires for the car, the speeds i mentioned are kinda unwritten rules... When your forced to adhere to the lines on the road eventually you can only go so fast before your tires cant keep up. Damp is very different than wet, not to mention people are unpredictable.
@@robbie_s.u.a.y 45 is slow af
Extremly hard to correct. The oversteer started off throttle, so adding a tiny bit of throttle helps. But its easy to over correct with 420 hp

@@afailathrone This is the v8 M3, not the V10
Wouldn't that make it a 550i then? Or 545i on harder tune?
@@mattatmoney9488 it's an M3..
Steer the opposite way the car is going and maintain neutral throttle. Not so difficult to do.
that gravel on the side was your saving traction.
Dudes got skill, I'm a long time racing person, love everything about it and I have taken the skip Barber roush course over 15 times, nothing like having fun on the track but I've experienced something similar to this going about 135 in my srt and it definitely puckers up the donut hole
And this, kids, is why you always drive in a proper seated position

Great save man that’s a serious pucker moment great reaction
excellent recovery. great skills right here
That V8 scream though... Irreplaceable.
This happened to me at about 75-80 mph. A small dip in the road followed by a puddle of water + turbocharged RWD car. I wasn't as lucky since I had the barrier to my left and no room to correct it. Ended up hitting the opening of a barrier and totaling the car. But I walked away without a scratch. Thank you BMW.
Just realised this legend of a man was wearing helmet inside his car in traffic.
Idk if that had XDrive but bmws awd system is superb. I had an e60 5series and once got the drivers side of the car stuck in deep snow and ice on the median of the highway while the other side was on pavement at like 65mph. I was able to gently steer out of it without slowing down. In fact I speed up a little to cut through the muck

Dude sick…E9x M3. But why go so fast with that much water on the road???
Palmer is nothing to scoff at. Glad you kept it together!!
I fear no loss of grip, because I can feel the grip of the car. But hydroplaning... it scares me.
cool storry brah
@@LionelHutz619 cool comment EdgeLord!
I did 65 for 2 seconds in an e46. Steering wheel wanted to throw itself out the window but I held it a little bit in the opposite direction while my car lost 15mph haha
Shit now that I'm thinking about it the puddle was so deep and how it felt I might've been a boat for those 2 seconds 🤯
Excellent job at correcting sir, you saved the m3 from what would’ve been its concrete demise
sheesh bruh how u doin 100mph in the rain to begin with i thought it was 100km but its miles bruvvvvvv guess im the first for the algorythim my dude
100mph is kinda sketchy with old tires. But new summer tires with a little rain at 100mph? No problem.
@@vj8452 You can have fresh tires and still hydroplane due to crappy roads with poor drainage. Best not to drive like a moron when it rains
Jack Doherty moment
Exactly 😂😂, I literally searched “hydroplaning car” and I’m just watching videos about it
Well saved! Glad all was OK.
Nicely held. Good job not overcorrecting 👌🏻👌🏻
I know this is crazy. but one man "oh crap" moment is "hell yeah" moment of another man.
I’m guilty of turning off traction control in the rain and almost crashing
What track is that? Looks nice
Never looked in danger, nice control!
This guy is a hell of a driver!!
This feeling is terrifying and exhilarating
Seating position looks proper good, nice reaction and good control.
Why does it look like you're only going 30mph?
Anything over 80 on water is asking for it. I don’t even think boats travel that fast.
Not if you hit the box for full wets/inters😏.
They do there’s some pretty damn fast boats out there but most places have speed limits and you need flat water
He's fast & furious.
Well done, didn't panic and saved it.
Man that drop in your gut when you feel like your sliding gets exciting after a couple times 😅😬
Why are your windows open?
Haha this guys good. Great control 👍🏽 Very quick to notice the slide too
this is exactly how you should over correct and counter steer, i do this exact procedure to in the rain in RWD FWD cars and I let off on throttle to gradually control counter steering. if i ever brake lose on AWD cars i just ease off throttle and slow pump brake then apply e-brake if needed. these driving habits have gotten me out of countless mishaps. #lessonslearned
That's the right way of dealing with traction stay calm and don't slam the brakes it will just make it worst , amazing job 👏
Everybody gangsta til tires stop grabbing pavement.
Superb car control 👌
hey so, not to be that guy or anything but when I was playing mario kart with my steering wheel remote, I handled those conditions mUch better
what car was that btw
The real question is, why are the windows open while driving in the rain?
Nice save man!
Well done. Great driver but that tiny line of grass makes its work wery well too, it gives you there little bit of grip to react correctly 😃
Good piece of driving there!
Is it me or is he mad close to the wheel
That sound is increíble, WOW
Okay but why were you going over 100 on wet roads?
good save. that's it, I don't get the people saying wow such a pro, have you ever driven in cold climates? We do 100 on snow with ice patches, strong winds, all of that while eating and changing the Spotify song
Did this on the freeway at 75mph when I hit some standing water. Luckily It was a straight road and the car handled pretty close to this video. Nice job.
Why does he drive with an open sidewindow? 😵💫
Huft, that's close nice driving skill bro
uk that feeling after u lose traction on wet track nd den u drive slowly for the rest of the lap contemplating how your life could have ended.

This happened to me on the motorway (very similar to this, a bmw too) after putting off getting new tyres a bit longer than I should have. I'll never forget the evils my wife sitting next to me gave before screaming get the fucking tyres!
Never forget when this happened to me, I went from a 4 cylinder Honda to a g37(V6) and I was going about 80 on the wet road and I switched lanes and the back of the car literally turned……I never was soo focused in my life to correct the steering wheel as I did that day
I can feel how good that must've felt just through watching the video 🥴
If only drivers in my city could that then I wouldn’t have been late to work today

Navigator- “we gonna change tyres”
Driver- “no I’ve got change my jocks”
good ending, glad it finished ok, what model and state were your tyres, age?. Haven't had hydroplaning before, but this winter I was driving fast on dry road, 80mph+, and before tunnel, road goes little bit downhill and it is very mild curve - it had a lot of snow all of the sudden (for about 100m), I was feeling like i was seating on needles, tried to keep car balanced and just to follow the road, with little input as possible, It went well but was so scary since I was overtaking cars in the right lane and it is narrow road with 55 speed limit...
well maybe don't drive like that
My dif was fu led and I hydroplaned 3 times in plain traffic thank god and my skills I never macked

This is the same as tongue kissing a rattle snake and almost died.
if i ever in this situation - is it better to release the gas or put a bit of gas ?
Use the force
Ease off the gas and pump the brakes gently. Be very careful not to overcorrect your steering
@@GabrielJuarez-bg8hb wtf? Fuck no never ever brake, not even gently. That transfers weight to the front of the vehicle and will send your car spinning. Either maintain, or increase throttle. Never brake.
@@GabrielJuarez-bg8hb no, just let off the gas
@@GabrielJuarez-bg8hb you're half right , but you don't want be keeping on the gas and definitely not accelerate more loool. You just let go of the gas so the car smoothly slow down and the tires then regain traction to the road . If you're on the gas , you're going the same speed / faster speed of where your tires already lost traction to the ground and are riding on water.
ok so what’s the exhaust setup?
