Your table looks terrific Leesa. You are both amazingly creative. I applaud your vision, inspiration and talent for the restoration of your fabulous Relais. You have both done a magnificent job in restoring a piece of French history.👏👏👏
Whenever I’ve used gold leaf, I’ve applied a gold leaf size, let it dry until tacky, then apply the gold leaf. Allow it to dry then brush off excess gold leaf. Hope you find a way to make it work.
Also the fact that the size was old, it really needs shaking really hard to mix the components, I think that had a lot to do with it, but definitely letting it go tacky, which can take 15 minutes in a warm room.then letting the gold stick before trying to rub it off too.
Love how you both try to go the extra mile to make sure that everything is perfect for every room when most people would just do a basic job that fits the purpose.
Faux leather is like vinyl. Naturally resistant to moisture. I'm surprised the guilder's paste didn't adhere. Even with real leather, you have to scruff up the surface to make any kind of paint adhere to the leather long term. But you managed it! Yay!
You can have a piece of thick glass cut to the size of the top the desk (not thin glass as it will break). The recessed part of the door then can be used to hold photographs or things of interest between the glass and table top.. I have glass tops on all my antique furniture tops and it was not expensive for the glass to be cut to size, about $35. Do not use thin glass and all will be well.
Brilliant on the angling the desk’s legs. Did the paint get spilled? My latest idea is possibly do a two day workshop $600 per person. Each person would redo a simple desk chair they find at a brocante. Love the embossed top. On journey to the chateau, they use a type of glue then use a brush to brush in gold leaf. Very creative addition to the room.
What a great idea the table is and it looks fantastic, so talented, when I have used gold leaf, I use modge podge let it dry to a tacky feel then gold leaf can't put gold leaf on with wet glue , xx
Desk looks lovely, episode of the new series of The Repair Shop on BBC 1 just recently on, Christopher Shaw the book repairer repaired a small pocket dictionary the only thing the owner had of his mother's, Chris had the writing on the leather cover redone in gold by one of the Ladies on the show, not sure what product was used.
The table is lovely you made it look simply beautiful. However, when you closed the bedroom door 😮 it definitely needs some love. A stain would tie the door into the room. Right now the inside of the door looks completely unfinished. But, you got this girl. 👍
When using gold leaf i have used size which comes in different usability times, so the more complex the job the longer time is needed for it to be workable.
Lesa.. you are on Help we bought a Village.. Airing on Public Broadcasting S.. PBS.. in Buffalo, US. .airing in New York, US and Southern Ontario in Canada..yeah!!!.. hopefully will generate some new viewers!!
Regarding the gold leaf: A few pointers.... Firstly paint your PVA glue with an ultrafine brush to make it as clean lined as possible. Next; make sure the glue is thinly and evenly applied. Then; leave until it's only just tacky to the touch with zero wetness in the glue/ almost like a pencil eraser rubberiness. Next you can overlay your gold leaf I noticed that you were using a largish acrylic brush and were using wiping motions to "paint" it and get it to stick. This isn't correct. The gold leaf is exceptionally delicate, tears easily and any vigorous application is unlikely to be successful. You really need a really soft squirrel hair brush which is exclusively for this purpose. Once you have the softest brush you very lighty dab the gold leaf without dragging the brush at all. Then leave for at least 24 hours to dry thoroughly in a dry warm atmosphere. Next day, use your squirrel brush to very lightly dust the ultra dry surface. Once this is done leave for a further 24 hours and buff surface as required.
@ChateauDeMontmagner I'm happy to help 😊. It's a very delicate skill. The gold leaf when first applied sort of clings like static electricity if you're doing it correctly. Then it's just making sure its totally dry. Good luck! I look forward to seeing you practice! It's a fine art!
Patrick @ Journey to the Chateau could probably give you some advice about gold leaf . Terry @ Escape to the Dream is another good source of information on gold leaf. ❤️ from Oklahoma 🌪️

Love your unique pieces, they reallly are a revelation!
Love the make shift table…it is stunning. Loving it all from PA, USA.
That green is absolutely stunning. You’re right, it does add that little extra bit of class, especially with that cartouche in the corner.
Totally agree!

The desk came out beautifully love the monogram. M Tucson Az
Beautiful Desk. I love it.
Brilliant, as per! 🔥
You need size for the gold leaf - paint it on leave it till it’s sticky then apply leaf
Very nice. Very nice indeed.
Great vision👍😘Nearly at 20k, like & subscribe!🎊
So close!
That needs a bit more humidity in the room as well as Heat to get the glue to start working for gold leaf.
Thank you for the info 👍
I have to think it’s the adhesive you’re using. Maybe try another made especially for gold leaf.
The table is lovely you made it look simply beautiful. However, when you closed the bedroom door 😮 it definitely needs some love. A stain would tie the door into the room. Right now the inside of the door looks completely unfinished. But, you got this girl. 👍
That is so beautiful!
How lovely to take an awkward space in the room and turn it into a functional piece of furniture for so little money!
Amazing work xx
Thank you! 😊
I think it is important to 👍 and to make a comment when you watch. It helps!
Very true!
Perfection...talk about meant to be...this is beyond bespoke...its kismet. 😲
Brilliant job, lisa

Put the gold leaf on the chain some place.
Awful for those who get unsubscribed. I count myself fortunate that it’s never happened to me.
👏❤️
Did you leave the gold leaf adhesive on for 30 minutes to get tacky before applying the gold leaf sheet?
No, only 15 minutes. Am I being too impatient?
@ I may not be remembering correctly but it needs to be very tacky
Chateau needs to be warm enough hest not to freeze pipes...
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🤗🙏
❤xxx
👋👍❤️
Whatever happened to you selling the property?
Don't jinx our enjoyment please🙏
