I saw Hugo Largo in NY in The Cave (name?), under a bridge. Earlier at The Bottom Line (I think), and also at... ? Saw Mimi do a performace in bloomers somewhere. I am in awe of them. Once, I snuck behind the stage and groveled before Mimi, who laughed. Mettle is the soundtrack to a decade of my life. The lyrics, vocals and atmosphere created are flawless. I can compare it to nothing and still tell people to look them up.
I remember playing with them in the New York area in 1986! Loved them live...Tim on the left was a good man...I ended up with his double neck bass/guitar later on...
Saw them at the Corn Exchange/cambridge.......amazing band...amazing singer. Best thing i have ever seen at the Corn Exchange apart from The Ramones. Four stars.
Wow what an incredible creative communicator , sharp like flint , flows like colours into each other , can not believe I've never heard of this band and songstress before discovering her through the equally wonderfully expressive Martin Jackson . Where have I been ....on another Planet ? ;D
super sweet.... came across these videos via the Hugo Largo website ... for those of us not nearby or too young to see them, thank you so much for posting.... .. @beowulven: this group and Durutti Column, among others, are major players in my pantheon of fave bands...
Loved these guys. Like many I saw them on the bbc performing. Bought the albums and even saw them support that petrol emotion. A weird choice of support band. The crowd hated Hugo Largo and didn't give the chance to play. I left straight after their performance.

I've listened to this album over and over and over....
yeah me too back when words like alternative and indie were not in circulation. Music represented some sign or possibility of an authentic life

Way ahead of their time. Perhaps Bjork was listening when I was. Thanks for posting. ~G

This is one of my favorite bands ever...wish they had gone on and on and on...a bright diamond which melted away...how did that happen??? xxx
I listened to this record soooo many times when it came out. Mysterious, impenetrable, beautiful and haunting. Thanks HL.
Man, this is the most intense performance I've seen in a long time.
Finally...someone put up Hugo Largo videos! One of my all-time faves! Thank you!

This is a blessing. Thank you.
This excites me; this makes me wish...
I'm in love with that woman...
that turtle could be a rock in disguise
fooling everyone
only indians know how to tell
they're so smart
they touch the dirt and feel it move
that excites me
that's exciting to me
that excites me
that makes me think
i remember being young and wanting to be
a cheetah
'cause they're so fast and strong
with all the meat on their bones
watch them sometime if you get a chance
that excites me
that's exciting to me
that excites me
that makes me wish
i was somewhere else
thinking someone else's thoughts
and not hollering from inside a deep well
the echo is big in here
hello
that reminds me
i'm inviting you
that reminds me
to invite you into
a deep well
hollering from inside a deep well
'cause i was somewhere else
thinking someone else's thoughts
and not hollering
hollering from inside a deep well
hollering from inside a deep well
hello
Thx so much mesmerizing
That's exciting to me....
likeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@jluke68 Hell yeah, that makes two of us
St Vincent
Except that her band (The Sugarcubes) came first....
I'll take Mimi over Berserk Bjork ANY DAY!
Huh? Is there something wrong with being an American?
