@@bendovertheburner Who cares if it's not substantive? Green saved Weezer from going out of style completely, it's _good_ that it was a simple little thing of pure pop rock songs.
Heyo, Jack Welsh here, this was a craaaazy good overview and I also wanna thank you for that segment with my dad in it, it really means a lot to me so thank you :)
Hello... Jack Welsh? I wish to extend, though they are rather belated, my condolences to you. It is very unfortunate man that you lost your father so young; while I didn't ever meet him, what I have read about him, heard, and saw in every video clip that I've seen of him, I can tell that your Dad's presence was one-of-a-kind, and that as much as it is a loss for both his friends and his fellow musicians who known and worked with him, none of us can truly know what he means to you; however, I feel that one of the things (and this is again, I confess, from only my own observations by way of various media) that your father understood - probably more so than many others - and valued was how being genuine is what wins in the end... so whether you yourself are either involved in music or not, being genuine - being yourself - is all that you ever have to be. Take care of yourself, as well as both those you love and those that love you 🤟😔...
I was actually at the show the day after Mikey Welsh died in 2011. They actually interviewed me in the newspaper while I was waiting in line outside the Congress Theater. As for Green, it was once one of my favorite Weezer albums but it's really fallen in my ranks. Today it's on the fringe of my top 10.
I was actually begining to cry when we got to the death of Mikey. I honestly didn't know all this. I just knew he had an addiction and died of a heart attack. Rip Mikey.
If I’m honest, pregreen and during Green Album era Weezer might be my favorite era. SS2K and Green are very poppy, yes, and Green is more or less very clean and sleek sounding, but its just for some reason.... a really awesome pop record for me. I can put it on and legitimately listen to it front to back and get a lot of enjoyment out of the songs, especially O Girlfriend which is my personal favorite from the album. It has a very sad tone on a very poppy and cheery sounding album. Sure, its not the best Weezer record, but for some reason its slowly creeped up to one of my favorite Weezer records. It kinda made me disappointed that Weezer didn’t give us something more than a lazy one hour repeat of Island In The Sun so thank you Zeep for this deep dive! Love ya dude!
I just watched your blue and pinkerton videos the other day and didn't see more and was wondering if you ever would. Crazy you just released this today. Awesome job.
Wow. This was a fantastic video. This single handedly changed my mind about the green album. I used to rank it in the lower half of my list, but now hearing the story of how the album was made, it's made me bump it up a few spots. Thank you.
yeah they should have just stuck with their perfect two album discography. I remember seeing them live in 2001, and it was THE most disappointing show I have ever been to. Still those two first albums are perfect 90s memories that haven't faded with time, just classic stuff. Pinkerton is my fave, as it was when I put it on the first time. 10/10.
This was an enjoyable video. I’ve watched all your Weezer videos, and they all have this brilliant feel to them, I think it could be described as the feeling of being on top of a mountain.
It's funny how I was thinking of this the other day then I see this in my sub box. The Green Album was probably the best thing that could have happened to Weezer 5 years coming off the commercial failure of Pinkerton. What a comeback.
I enjoyed the video a lot. Rock history is great you do a good job of being unbiased. When you said it was your first Weezer album I assumed you were going to rave about it so I had my doubts about it being an interesting video. But it was great thanks for making it. You should definitely make one about my first Weezer album Maladroit as there is plenty of confusion and controversy surrounding it as far as I know. Great job!
Ahhh this brings me back to when I first discovered Weezer. I appreciate the depth that you went into discussing this album, especially since it's not really considered a 'classic' like Blue and Pinkerton, and so it's cool to hear someone talk about it at length. I didn't realize the extent of what Mikey was going through - it's really sad to hear about both his afflictions and how he felt abandoned by the band, but it's good they eventually reconciled. Nice video!
Island In The Sun was the second Weezer song I listened to, (Buddy Holly of course being the first) It's stuck with me and the memories of summer camp and I'll say it's one of my favorite songs.
Truly a fantastic, comprehensive, and very tender retrospective. Thank you for making this. I pretty much agree with you on every single point about the record. 😅 Not one of my favorites in the Weezer discography, but still got a lot of love for it. Simple Pages is my least favorite too 😜 still gets stuck in my head a lot though.
I love this album. It came out the day I graduated from University. It is my favorite album. I love Simple Pages, Don't Let Go, O Girlfriend, and Glorious Day. The only songs I skip are Crab and Smile. I am shocked that you don't like Simple Pages and Glorious Day. Those two songs are really good. Will you be doing a similar video to Maladroit? That is a fantastic album. Too bad after Maladroit, they were so hit and miss.
My introduction to weezer. Was hash pipe. Then bought the disc (green albums. Right from the first cut (don’t let go ) I was hooked. And the photograph the intro to a then popular tv show Had to have more but the green album played the most
You sure are keeping it weezer Awesome video, keep it up! Green is always an album I've had mixed feelings on but it still has a very interesting history like most of their albums
I truly think this album would be much better received if Island in the Sun was the 8th track or something like that. If they had one true bright spot in the 2nd half of the album then I think it would be looked at much more favorablely.
Dude, not only did Knockdown Dragout sound like Worry Rock by Green Day, but O Girlfriend sounds like Church On Sunday by Green Day. Ironic for an album called The Green Album to have two songs on it that sound like Green Day.
Smile and O Girlfriend are my favorites. The b sides Starlight and Always would have been favs if they made it on the record and should have honestly replaced some of the more bland tracks.
I’m not a huge fan of this album, but it’s not so bad. The songs that I go back and listen to are “Don’t let Go”, “Photograph”, and “island in the sun”. However I hate Hash Pipe with a passion, if I could erase anything from history, it would be that song.
Wait, so mikey got realy anxious and attempted su1cide after beeing on stage. Then he was doing good with his art career, but then after beeing at the concerts and beeing on stage again he got anxious again. So the shows were the fault of mikeys death or havent i understood this correctly
Good job! I never really considered Green to be good but after the video, I kinda appreciate it more. Hope a Maladroit Analysis is coming someday (but probably in one year lmao)
It's always upset me that this record was so divisive because it's one of my favourites. I think its simplicity is its genius, it never tries to be clever or artsy or complicated, it's just a really good and well-written guitar pop record that doesn't have a wasted second on it. Even "Island in the Sun".
Honestly, I really like the Green Album. Yes, I understand why it’s seen as bland and derivative, but it’s not trying to be anything it’s not. It’s wants to be a fun, straightforward pop rock record and I think it succeeds
