The fact that this song only plays if you're in the modern era, and at war, and you're playing as a European civ, and yet I still recognise this as well as our even better than some of the civs' main themes just speaks wonders about the quality of this track. It also always makes me feel terrible about the war I'm waging and want to end the bloodshed
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow. Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe. To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die.We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
The best and only song on Civ 5 i traced back to find out about. Civ 4 I think was a much superior soundtrack selection. But as I play England a lot this always popped up.
Europe definitely...probably England, but Spain can grow some spectacular corn poppies as of course do Flanders Fields. Opium poppies are different and have much larger seed pods. After the first world war.. the devastation that followed trench warfare in the areas where major battles were fought; battles that took place in the Ypres Salient, including the Second Battle of Ypres and the Battle of Passchendaele the wild poppies grew and covered the ground. This is the reason they are used to commemorate the fallen on 11 November and other ceremonious occasions. The wearing of the poppy is a sign of respect for the men and women who died, particularly in respect of WW1 and WW2. Sale of the poppies made of silk or other cloth raises money to help support veterans.

My favorite Civ5 tune.
this music reminds me of my childhood apartment, old times, those fuzzy but familiar streets and shops, some raining days, memories all come up
This just makes me feel so empty inside. What a powerfull song.

This song totally sounds like it is about young men going off to war to die.
It sounds more like someone who did not come home and the lonesome and eerie memories left behind.
Amazing
Thank you, a beautiful and suitably emotive tune - Sua Tela Tonanti.
