Thank you so much. I'm getting ready to undergo some renovation myself. Your video is helping give me the confidence that I need to pursue this project. I appreciate this
I would suggest priming the damage/stains on the interior of the exterior panels with Kilz are some type of stain/mildew blocking paint before replacing any insulation. And I also recommend using solid foam panel insulation rather than batting. Foam panels not only work better, but they also resist future water damage more efficiently. Other than mold or mildew spore growth, which happens rather quickly.
Thanks for sharing. I’m just amazed that y’all could fix that yourself. If you had taken it in to be repaired (especially under warranty) they would have kept it several months. Ryan is pretty handy. I’m gonna get my hubby to watch this. Amazing 😻
Thank you for this video and the information. I have done research for a while before buying a used rv. They all require constant maintenance and inspection, for this very reason. I am still excited to begin this journey. I, like many others, think cause it’s new, you should have some time prior to repairs & maintenance ..not true with camper or motor home. Very helpful, Thank you again.
Great video. I have a wall I had to do the same with but from roof corner was the leak. Now I am going to replace all the main bedroom's wall and put wood look panel on the back wall. Thanks.
Another way to cut out the window opening is to mount the panel on the wall and use a router with a flush trim bit. Tends to leave a smoother cut and follow the contours of the window better. Also, would recommend staples and not just glue to mount the wall panel
I have to repair the track for my bedroom door inside my 5th wheel. The track is located behind a wall in the bathroom. Any suggestions on how I can go about fixing that ? I'm a beginner in RV living & am doing repairs myself. Any & all suggestions would be appreciated!!
Its not attached with screws or nails. Do some reaerch on types of glues or adhesives to be used for plywood to aluminum. But yes, i didnt see them do it either and theyll be back in there doing it im guessing.
This is my issue as well. The only material i can find that is 1/8 is the pressed hardboard. I think it's too heavy for the ceiling. HD/ LOWES also has 5mm plywood but then ill have to replace the whole ceiling 🤷♂️@blainemcdonald6972
Crazy how much people pay for these stupid things and how you have to reapir them within a few years. I get there made to travel and light weight, but come on, $30,000 to $60,000 and then you repair them.
I had a vintage home and it was a money pit of very expensive repairs. I loved that house but couldn't afford the repairs. I now live in a used 5th wheel and the repairs are still part of owning something, just like with a car, but the repairs are far less expensive.
You can use self-leveling RV caulk or exterior silicone caulk. If you're having leaky window problems, then it's actually best to remove the entire window and reseal it from the frame out, which would include self-leveling caulk around the frame once reinstalled.
I’d for sure remove that window. Likely the rubber glazing has hardened or shrunk and/or there is debris blocking the drain. Could also be sealed to the siding with a trim-lok cord, which may be leaking. Absolutely DO NOT block off the drain. If that continues to leak the luan underneath will delaminate from the filon. New glazing seals might be in order, along with edpm cord seal. If you cap with a strike of proflex, I’d just do the top and sides. If one window’s seal is going bad, and the others are the same age…. Could make a day of it…
I need to ask what exactly are rv trailer walls made out of? What is behind the thick wallpaper? Because I can literally can push on the wall and my hand would go through it easy peesy. The round things that hold the blinds in place at the bottom will not stay in and when I put my finger in there I can feel a lil bit of crumbling of wood. The wall that I'm having the trouble out of has a window in it and the side of a cabinet on top that's on the very top. This is in my living room at the end of my RV...😢😢😢
Me and my bf just ran into this issue in our RV. Top corner leaked and about a 1' × 1' section is soaked. Its covered by a cabinet. We've found the leak and sealed it but IDK if we should try to replace that small section, replace the whole wall, or just make sure it doesn't get worse 😅
Jigsaw drill? 🤔 The word silicone should never be used when speaking of RV’s. Don’t say it and for gosh sakes, don’t use it. The hole in the bottom of the window frame is called a weep hole and might have been clogged a bit. Always check those and remove debris if necessary.

exactly once the insulation bats get wet its over. .With the foam you have a chance
How thick is your piece of wood that you replaced .I saw it was bendable ..thank you
What thickness do you recommend?

Yes, it takes so long to get them repaired if you take it in!!

NPH! NOW WAY! Loved you in the harold and kumar movies lol
You guys have an easy one. Mine is on a slide with cabinets at the bottom and top. Cabinets will have to come out to replace my panel.
Sorry, difficult location for sure. Hope you get it fixed!

Awesome video 👍
Great video on fixing the wall.
Thanks! 👍
What kind of paneling are you using to replace the wall?

hi great work wher was the water coming in from then i kinda have the same issue by the window in the top bunk
Hello. How did you use the butyl tape of windows? Thanks
Thanks for sharing this!
Also what sealent do you use to put around on the bottom of slide-out or just outside anywhere
100% silicon
Hi thanks for sharing. My trim on bunk window is old not doing its job. Can you share link for prooer trim? Please
So you didn't attach the new board to the aluminum studs?
I'll have to , what screws do I use?
Its not attached with screws or nails. Do some reaerch on types of glues or adhesives to be used for plywood to aluminum. But yes, i didnt see them do it either and theyll be back in there doing it im guessing.
So where did you use the butyl tape?
So lucky to have that kind of wall. Ours is glued on the whole wall to foam insulation 😑
Can you tell me what type of panelling you used for the wall?
1/4 inch paneling from Lowe's.
1/8 or 1/4?
My RV paneling is 1/8 thick

So true!
LOL my 5th wheel list for about 200K. I have done many repairs.

Nice job! I would have removed the entire window, and replaced the butyl tape, to ensure it was leak free
showing the butyl tape instal would have been great
your leak wasnt the window its the pushout
It was the window. We have had a leak on the slide in the past, though.
Jigsaw drill? 🤔

Need a new circular saw blade lol!
